NFL Wants to charge double

Looks like there will be another wild card playoff game only available via streaming in 2024 season. Amazon will pay $150 mil to stream a game, NBC Peacock paid $110 mil this season to stream a wild card game (I think it was the MIA @ KC game).

Amazon pays roughly $58.8 mil for each Thursday Night fane they broadcast during the regular season.

That's funny the writer thinks it's a negative having to start a program at 4AM local time. I would think that would be an attractive part of the job. Ambitious people don't need more than 4 hours of sleep and it's good to get the day started early. Traffic is much better overnight, and if you go into work at 2AM, you are likely home by noon, with the best part of the day yours to enjoy, or work that second or third job.

Yes, starting early can have its advantages but the program starts at 4am that means they probably need to be there around 1am. It’s LA, there can be and often is traffic at all hours.

Working till noon or so and then hitting the beach to rest/take a nap…..there is a reason why the west coast property prices are so high.

I’m in one Squares that the layout is $3000 cash for the championship game. Every game pays out, each round pays more.

It appears the NFL will have 2 games on Christmas and they will be televised by the highest bidder.

All 4 teams better have a bye the week before. Can’t make all these asinine rule changes in the name of player safety while simultaneously adding a 17th game and making players play on Sunday and then play again on Wednesday.

Been done with NFL and don't care what they charge....... Super Bowl was one of the lowest ratings in some time. People will continue to stop watching the clown show.

Either bye the week before or the teams that play on Christmas (a Wednesday) play on Saturday the week before. The 4 days in between would be the same as a typical Thursday night game.

Very true, slipped my mind they start playing Saturday games once college is (mostly) done.

NHL is a more physical sport and they play back to back nights......

Ridiculous statement. The NHL plays 82 regular season games, one NHL game is no where near as taxing on the human body as one NFL game.

LOL .... yeah so lets see. You snap the ball... a few seconds go by and then we sit around for about 40 seconds and then another play happens. Half the time the player is on the bench as they don't play both offense and defense. They also switch out often as well......

Hockey is constant with little breaks during action. You play both offense and defense. You have to switch out on the fly by hopping over the boards. You get checked into the boards, hit by the puck as well as other players sticks all while skating on ice. A team does this with just 20 players while football has 53.

You actually proved my point by the amount of games NHL players play. NHL is much more taxing on the body than Football. Period....

You repeating an incorrect statement twice doesn’t make it magically correct.

So many ridiculous statements and analogies. You are explaining game situations that you believe makes hockey more challenging to play but do they make it more physically difficult to play multiple games in a week. The 8 to 15 seconds a NFL single play takes can be extremely demanding. There are multiple head on collisions with 200+ pound individuals on every single play, not glancing collisions, head on. Glancing collisions disperses the the energy of the collision, head on someone absorbs it - that is where the bruises and injuries occur.

Do you watch football?

Hockey players can play football but football players cannot play hockey.

Hockey is definitely a tough sport but skating is a skill set.

Access:
One either needs to live in a cold climate or have the $$$/resources to pay for ice time to develop their skill for skating. Approximately 4 billion men in the world and how many do you think have the access to strive to become a NHL player? The vast majority of humans live either close to the ocean or near the equator. Granted, one could make a similar argument about the NFL players but America has a far higher % of great athletes who have access to state of the art training.

Size:
The Columbus Bluejacks have 28 guys listed on their roster:
* 16 players are less that 200 pounds
* 7 players are between 200 to 219 pounds
* 4 players are 220 or more pounds
*** No one is list above 240 pounds
NFL players are on average far bigger & stronger than NHL players, it’s not even close.

Many on Yappi can/could play football but none of us could play at the NFL level. I’m sure many NHL hockey players have or could have played football but only a few could have played in the NFL. Of the 1500+ NFL players, if they began playing hockey as a kid I have no doubt several could have made the NHL.

Just a few of the sports and gambling stories:
* 1919 Chicago Whitesox
* 1960 NFL Paul Horning & Alex Karras scandal
* 1978 Boston College Basketball point shaving scandal
* 1986 MLB Pete Rose scandal
* 2002 Breeders Cup Horse Racing Scandal
* 2007 NBA Official Tim Donaghy

Common themes with all of these sports gambling stories:
* the game/sport went on
* gambling continued to be popular
* another gambling scandal will occur again

You purchase it in 2014 for $1.4 billion and 10 years later decide to sell a 25% stake to recoup your $$$ because your $1.4 billion investment is now worth an estimated $3.7 billion. This is the story of the Bills current owner, the Pegula family.

Side note, their daughter is the 2nd ranked American and #5 world ranked tennis player.

Loved, loved, loved the opinion article written by ‘Brother Bob’ who explained what Fantasy Football was, quoted Jason Whitlock and informed the reader on NFL Wokeness.

‘Brother Bob’ may no longer follow the draft but based on the record setting crowd in Detroit for this years draft - he is a minority.

Great informative opinion piece IEW!
