Softball Sophie Schechterman's Big Day Propels Aurora Past Tallmadge 12-2

Sophie Schechterman collected three hits in three at bats, as Aurora defeated Tallmadge 12-2 on Tuesday. Schechterman hit a home run to center field in the sixth inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and doubled in the third inning.

A sacrifice fly by Sophie Retton put Aurora on the board in the top of the first.

Aurora added five more runs in the top of the second inning on five hits. Rayna Unverferth singled, scoring one run, and McKennah Metzger hit a grand slam to center field.

An error extended the the Greenmen lead to 7-0 in the top of the third inning.

Aurora scored two runs in the top of the sixth on a home run to center field by Schechterman.

Metzger earned the win for Aurora. She gave up five hits and two runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking none. Riley Jackson took the loss for Tallmadge. The starting pitcher went two innings, giving up six runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one. Larissa Taylor pitched four innings for the Blue Devils, giving up 6 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits, striking out four and walking none.

Aurora collected 15 hits in the game. Metzger drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Greenmen with four runs batted in. The number three hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Schechterman and Sophie Petrash each collected three hits for Aurora. Madeline Dalessandro, Unverferth, and Retton each collected multiple hits for the Greenmen. Aurora was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Schechterman made the most plays with eight.

Lexi Gray went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Tallmadge in hits.
