Field Falcons Claim Victory Over Coventry 11-8

Field Falcons were victorious against Coventry 11-8 on Wednesday.

The Falcons got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Coventry committed an error, Tia Ulrich grounded out, and Mckayla Miller singled, each scoring one run.

Coventry tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a single by B Smith, and a home run to right field by Madison Burkhart.

Field flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 8-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to right field by Lilli Sutkowy that drove in three.

Coventry scored five runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning. An error scored two runs, Wilcox singled, scoring two runs, and Maddie Burge induced Lombardi to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Burge earned the win for Field. She surrendered seven hits and eight runs (seven earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking one. Burkhart took the loss for Coventry. The starting pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 runs (five earned) on nine hits, striking out two and walking six. Sutkowy pitched one inning of scoreless ball for Field in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out none and walking none.

Field collected 12 hits in the game. Sutkowy provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Falcons with three runs batted in. She went 1-for-4 on the day. Miller went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Field in hits. Burge and Delilah Rahe each collected multiple hits for the Falcons. Field worked the count all day, collecting six walks.

Madison Burkhart drove the middle of the lineup, leading Coventry with four runs batted in. She went 1-for-4 on the day. A Burkhart led Coventry with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position.
