Canfield Cardinals Late Push Leads to Victory Over Austintown Fitch

Canfield snatched the lead late in their 2-1 victory over Austintown Fitch on Tuesday. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the sixth when Leah Figueroa singled, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Canfield struck out six while Austintown sat down nine.

Canfield opened the scoring in the second after Caylee Ortiz doubled, scoring one run.

Ayla Ray homered to centerfield to score Austintown's lone run in the game, tying it at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning.

Malena Toth opened the game pitching for Canfield. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and one run over six and one-third innings, striking out six and walking none. Sydnie Watts stepped into the circle for Austintown Fitch. She allowed six hits and two runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking one.

Jenna Triveri, Malena Toth, Macey Kalina, Faith Morell, Leah Figueroa, and Caylee Ortiz each collected on hit for the Cardinals. Figueroa an Ortiz each drove in one run. Canfield did not commit an error. Leah Figueroa led with seven chances in the field.

Kylie Folkwein, Sydnie Watts , Samantha Severn, Ayla Ray each collected one hit for the Falcons. Ray went 1-for-3 at the plate as the starting shortstop with one run batted in. Austintown did not have an error a Kylie Folkwein led in the field with nine chances.

The game was called due to weather in the top of the 7th with Austintown batting. The Falcons had a runner on third base and two out when lightning delayed the game. The game eventually was called when they were unable to resume the game.
