Aurora Varsity Greenmen Defeats Revere On Back Of Clutch Display From Sophie Retton

Sophie Retton drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Aurora Greenmen past Revere 18-11 on Monday. Retton doubled in the fourth scoring two, singled in the second scoring one, and singled in the third scoring one.

Both offenses were strong at the plate as Aurora collected 20 hits and Revere 15 in the high-scoring affair.

Aurora got on the board in the first inning after McKennah Metzger singled, scoring one run.

Gayner singled, which helped Revere tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.

Aurora jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after Madeline Dalessandro doubled, Rayna Unverferth walked, Sophie Petrash laid down a sacrifice bunt, Metzger hit a sacrifice fly, and Retton singled, each scoring one run.

Aurora scored eight runs on nine hits in the top of the third inning. Petrash singled, scoring one run, Metzger doubled, scoring two runs, Retton singled, scoring one run, Sophie Schechterman tripled, scoring two runs, Avery Qualters singled, scoring one run, and Julia Miller singled, scoring one run.

Revere scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. M Diaz grounded out, scoring one run, A Gardner singled, scoring two runs, I Novosielski singled, scoring one run, P Kelley singled, scoring two runs, and G Mishic singled, scoring one run.

Metzger earned the win for Aurora. The righty gave up 11 hits and four runs over six and one-third innings, striking out five and walking three. T Hodgen stepped in the circle first for Revere. The starting pitcher gave up 12 hits and 12 runs (nine earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one. Gardner pitched four and one-third innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking three. Lailah Bohanan appeared in relief for Aurora.

The Greenmen tallied 20 hits in the game. Metzger, Bohanan, and Retton each collected three hits. Schechterman, Dalessandro, Miller, Petrash, and Qualters each collected multiple hits for Aurora. The Greenmen didn't commit a single error in the field. Retton had the most chances in the field with 13.

Revere accumulated 15 hits in the game. Gardner seized on her opportunities, leading Revere with three runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The shortstop went 2-for-2 on the day. Kelley led Revere with three hits in four at bats. Novosielski, L Kelley, Gayner, and Mishic each collected multiple hits for Revere. Revere had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Gardner and Kelley led the team with two free passes each.
