The Big Blue (2-6) comes to RDI Stadium this Friday for a first round region 4 matchup with StX (8-2)

Hamilton beat West Clermont 43-28 to open the season then had weeks 2 and 3 cancelled vs Edgewood and Princeton.

They lost 6 of their last 7, the lone victory being over winless Oak Hills by a score of 50-7 in week 7.

The QB play is puzzling.

QB/P/KR Kerry Ware (Sr. 6'1" 185lb) was under center the first 4 games and the team scored 91 points (22 points/game).
Ware was 14 for 28 (50%) for 289 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs and a strong QB rating of 146.0 (plus 138 yards rushing)
This was against 3 of the top 4 teams in the GMC (East, West and Fairfield).
Nonetheless he was moved to WR for the last 4 games where he caught 8 passes for 97 yards

They have used 3 players at QB in the last 4 games in which they scored 97 points (23 points/game; note 50 points vs winless Oak Hills)
This was against 4 teams in the bottom half of the GMC (Oak Hills, Mason, Sycamore and Colerain).

QB/LB Gabe Verdon (Jr. 6'2" 235lb) was 15 for 35 (42%) for 200 yards 0 TDs/ 4INTs, and QB rating of 68.0 (vs all 4 teams)
QB/RB/WR/DB Elijah Givens (Sr. 6'2" 180lb) was 4 for 5 (80%) for only 9 yards (vs Colerain)
QB/DB Jaylan Garrett (Jr. 5'11" 160lb) was 5 for 14 (36%) for 77 yards and a rating of 81.9 (vs Sycamore)

Ware's numbers are better than the others and he faced tougher competition yet he was moved to WR for last 4 games.
Ware is a dual threat whereas Verdon and Garrett are not and the other 3 play defense whereas Ware does not.

All the above suggests Ware should be at QB

StX and Hamilton have played 12 times.
Years played: 1927, 1932, 1943, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1994, 1997, 2001-2004
The Bombers lead the series 8-4

Here are the results from the home-home series that ran from 2001 to 2004
2001 X won 21-7 Week 10 at Hamilton High
2002 X won 27-0 Week 10 at Ballaban Stadium
2003 X won 28-13 Week 10 at Hamilton High
2004 X won 42-6 Week 10 at Ballaban Field

StX vs the GMC

With this seasons wins over Colerain and Lakota West, StX is now 70-26 all time versus GMC schools.

Since 2000 StX is 35-11 vs GMC schools with all 11 losses to Colerain.
Since 2000 only Colerain, Hamilton and now Lakota West scheduled StX in the regular season.

Middletown is the only GMC school to lead the series versus StX (5-4)
They defeated the Bombers 5 times between 1975-1989, then lost 4 games between 1990 and 2012.

The Bombers have played every GMC school but Lakota East.
Colerain, Hamilton, Princeton and Middletown are the 4 GMC teams to beat the Bombers.

Lakota West, Middletown, Fairfield, Oak Hills and Sycamore played StX in the Crosstown Showdown

Colerain, Sycamore, Fairfield, Lakota West, Mason and Princeton have played the Bombers in the post season
And now we will add Hamilton to this list.

StX games vs GMC schools: Colerain 41, Hamilton 12 (this will be 13), Oak Hills 9, Princeton 9, Middletown 9, Sycamore 7, Fairfield 4, Lakota West 4, Mason 2

Bomber Offense

Offensively, the Bombers have scored 21 to 52 points in their 10 regular season games.
The offense is most successful when the run to pass ratio is 60:40

2 Tiers of Receivers
Tier 1: McFarlin, Klare, Kellom and Farrar: 124 catches for 1,990 yards with 25 TDs
Tier 2: Wassler, Eary, Ryan and Vrsansky: 25 catches for 235 yards with 2 TDs

Kellom the GCL leading rusher with 977 yards, averages 98 yards rushing and 40 yards receiving per game.
McCaughey’s TD to INT ratio is a remarkable 27/2

OLine Questions
Will RT Cam Collins be back this week?
Will Jack Renneker, who started at the guard position the previous 2 years and was injured prior to this season be cleared to play this week? He dressed for the first time this season last night but that may have been for senior night.

I hope Coverdale and his staff are addressing the fumble recovery returns for TD against LaSalle (86 yard return) and ELCA (70 yard return).

In both cases the entire offense assumed these were incomplete forward passes, thus dead balls.
In both cases the zebras ruled these to be "backwards passes" (laterals) and thus live balls (fumbles) that were recovered and returned for 6.

Luckily both occurred in turbo clock games.
I fear the next one could be the difference between advancing and going home or state title and runner up.

New Rule for the Offense: Any swing pass or pass to a player who has stepped back from the line of scrimmage should be treated as a fumble if not clearly caught. In this instance players shall give maximum effort to recover the potential fumble and if recovered by the opponent tackled immediately.

Against GMC competition....
Hamilton Offense averages 286 yards per game and 24 points
- In 8 games Johnson has scored 14 rushing TDs and Givens 6 TDs (2 on kick returns)
Hamilton Defense allows 360 yards per game and 33 points
- No surprise considering their leading tackler is an undersized freshmen Lineman and several players play both ways

Does anyone know if there will be TV or streaming video coverage for this game. Being a playoff game,........I'm not sure if ESPX can broadcast the game or not. Inquiring minds want to know,.........

P.S. Go Bombers !!!

I checked back on St.X's website and now the game is listed. Fingers-crossed.

Pretty sure Renneker was only dressed for senior night, Collins was as well for the pregame festivities. Collins did not seem hobbled on the sideline, so hopefully will be back, though Fogler played adequately Friday. I was really pulling for the staff to let Renneker get on the field for senior night, even if for just one play.

Kellom should be the GCL player of the year. With all respect to BMc and Terrell McFarlin who are having great years, Kellom has been the stud who has stepped up.

But what they seem to do every year is have co-players of the year so expect he will have to share the honors with Coach Ramsey's kid

GCL-S Player(s) of the year past 10 years
2020 Liam Clifford, Zach Branam, Drew Ramsey
2019 Cam Porter, Matt Luebbe
2018 Michael Biitner
2017 Chase Wolf
2016 Christian Turner
2015 Jeremy Larkin, Peyton Ramsey
2014 Jeremy Larkin, Peyton Ramsey
2013 ??????
2012 Keith Watkins
2011 Monty Madaris, Nate Gerbus
2010 Drew Kummer, Steve Daniels

Hmmmm......very interesting

Bengals Jamaar Chase and Tee Higgins stop by Ballaban Field yesterday to see what it's like to catch passes from the best HS QB in the state

Most likely going to be the case. Kellom and BMc should probably be the two to share the honors BUT since their stats are really diminished by the fact that they have only played 4 quarters 3 times this year it will most likely be Ramsey and one of the two, if not both. Kellom still has more total yards than Ramsey I believe, crazy.

Bombers up 12-0 early in the second quarter.
1st TD about a 25 yard pass to junior WR Robert Houston and the second @8 yard sweep by McFarlin.
Fogler looking good at RT
Crappy weather didn't convert either XP and Kellom stopped short on 2 pt conversion.

Disappointed that Kaleb Johnson, the Iowa bound RB, not in the lineup.
Looking for #2 on the sidelines but haven't located him yet.
Hamilton has Ware #8 back at QB and even without Johnson they have been able to move the ball into X territory on first 2 possessions with Ware running options and hitting Ishmail #6 and Givens #11

Kellom 8 yard TD run and 2 yard conversion from the wildcat.
CK already over 100 yards.
X 20-0 with about 6 minutes until half

Johnson on the Hamilton sidelines, dressed, no evidence of injury (crutches or wraps etc).
X with their first 3 and out, Ware punt is blocked recovered by X at the 35 of Hamilton.
A couple dropped TD passes now.
Ishmail drops McCaughey on 4th down to give Hamilton the ball at their own 30 with 2 minutes til half

Nolan with the INT at the Bomber 40.
X moves to the Hamilton 40 but turns over on downs.....4th down TD pass is dropped.
Ware pass to Ishmail (got away with push off) down to the X 4 yard line.
Ware to Givens for the TD and XP good makes it 20-7 at the half.

Stories of the first half......the weather, no Kaleb Johnson, the other Hamilton playmakers (Givens and Ishmail) never leave the field, 3 dropped Bomber TD passes and Kellom with over 100 total yards.

Last Friday in the 28-21 loss to Mason, Kaleb Johnson had 19 carries for 97 yards and 2 TDs, with his 2nd TD in the 4th quarter.
So if he's injured must have happened this week.
He's dressed and on the sidelines with no evidence of injury so could be something else.....all speculation but I'm sure the Hawkeye coaching staff wants to know the status of their recent commit

Big Blue gets the ball to start the 2nd half.
On 3rd down Givens on the sweep for 25 yards to the Hamilton 45 yard line.
On 3rd down Alex Kemper with the pic 6 for 45 yards, XP good
X 27-7

Givens is a heckuva a receiver/runner but man he has no clue how to return kickoffs, he's dancing as soon as he catches it.
His dancing gets them backed up at their own 10.
On 4th, short punt is fielded by Vrsansky at the 30 and returned to the 20.
Kellom goes 20 yards for the TD and Rohmiller XP makes it X 34-7
