Tournament

I believe JLP was asking if they had to buy a ticket for each of the 2 matches at Barberton.

Yes today it shows as two different days - as of this morning they were both Wednesday, 6:30 pm and 8 pm. They also didn’t have the Kent game even listed for sale but they did have the other game for sale ! ( I’ve been to several basketball tournament double headers over the years with just one ticket )

Ditto. I’d be curious as to why they changed it.

Haha my bad. I’ve never seen them clear the gym between matches in any high school volleyball event, so you should only need to buy one. Who knows with OHSAA though.

Years ago (2005 ?) OHSAA would clear the gym for girl's volleyball state finals. Not sure if they do that now.

Region 6 was the only region to separate the regional semifinal games into 2 different nights. All other 7 regions held back to back semifinal games at same location. So clearly, it was not money.
I would almost guarantee one of the schools had a conflict so both teams and the host site agreed to move it. Pretty simple explanation given the typical end of the year things going on

I don’t pay much attention to boys volleyball but my two girls and son played in grade school. They gave it up for other sports in high school. Are Catholic schools over represented because they start playing in 3rd grade? I noticed that most schools still playing are Catholic high schools.

Catholic grade school programs BWAC and CYO have been around for 15-20 years so yes they start early. I know Oak Hills/Taylor/Lakota East all have started to field teams in these league so you hopefully will see more parity moving forward.

The Cincy Catholic Grade Schools do a great job of getting girls and boys to play volleyball. In fact, can be a little intense at times. The club level of the sport is insanely competitive.

Here’s an interesting note of how well Cincy Catholic Schools have done in D1.

Ohio Girls Volleyball
Since 1993, 75% of the State Championships at the D1 level have been won by Cincy all girls Catholic Schools. Ursuline Academy, MND, Seton, St Ursula and Mercy have all won at least one in that period.

Ohio Boys Volleyball
Although not sanctioned until this year, it was run by the Ohio High School Boys Volleyball Association prior.
Since 1995, 73% of the State Championships were won by Cincy all boys Catholic Schools. Moeller, Elder and St X are the schools.

I’d be willing to guess D2 is similar.

For boys in D2, Alter had a run where they won something like 6 titles in a row. I'm honestly not even sure who else has won without the old website to look at, but, outside of Alter's run, there was Badin last year and Fenwick in 2021. I think St. Charles has maybe won before? Someone else will have to help me out with others.

If I recall correctly, Alter made 5 straight championships and lost the 5th to St Charles (in 2019?)

Awesome, thank you! So D2-wise:
Alter - 6
Hoban - 2
St. Charles - 2
Fenwick - 2
Badin - 1
Walsh Jesuit - 1

Not much parity with Alter having the run they did and it only being a small sample size, but some more parity outside of Alter and in the runner-ups. Also, we're guaranteed a first time champion this weekend in D2, so that's pretty fun.

You started girls stats in 93 but Canton McK girls won 3 titles soon before that ☺️

Liberty looks very good, running a quick offense and good ball control. However, we've seen how a team like that has fared in the last two finals vs a Moeller team. I'm still leaning toward Liberty, though! I'll say in 5 as well.

Liberty looked VERY good in that 1st set. Ball control was fantastic and their quick offense is giving Moeller’s blockers fits. Sullenberger also picks up damn near everything

And there you have it: Moe wins the 5th set 15-13 for the three-peat. Liberty had virtually no answer for Patterson; 21 kills, 1 error on 46 swings, 8 blocks

And both teams return a lot. Moe loses Patterson, Hagerty and Threm; huge, huge losses no doubt, but return Marcum, Geselbracht, Wong, Sauer, Ernst and Yox. Liberty only loses Sullenberger I believe. Might very well see these 2 teams at it again next year

You would have to think that Moe's experience and conditioning played a big role in the comeback. How many times have we seen them down to a match point only to rally and completely swing the Moementum? Unreal performances in the last few years. GBM 💪 🏐

Absolutely! Also give credit to some in game lineup tweaks that showed how good Coach Meyer is in the postseason. What a match!
