Those are some WACKY scores. To lose the 3rd 25-9 and come back to win in 5? wild.Oh and the Mason-Carroll scores were 25-19, 16-25, 9-25, 25-22, 15-13
The Alter stuff is wild. Getting smoked lately, albeit against pretty good teams. Scores are nowhere close to where they were at the beginning of the season though. Anyone have insight into Carroll's loss last night- were they full strength or still without Cannon? Two Ls in a row for Carroll.
Also, it appears that Alter has fallen off..
Looking at stats, it looks like Alter's usual starting setter, Darnieder, hasn't played the past couple of matches. It also looks like they're also running 3 sophomores and 3 freshmen out there. Might just be a rebuilding year and getting younger guys experience. The Alter stuff is wild. Getting smoked lately, albeit against pretty good teams. Beavercreek d. Moeller 25-23, 27-25, 25-22I would assume back up setter and maybe Patterson didn’t play. Anybody attend?
I'd say Carroll on this cold streak they're on and Alter losing the ones they've been losing and by how much should really shake things up. Feels like Badin has been flying under the radar this year with everything they lost from last year, but they're sitting at 12-2 with a win over St. Charles yesterday. Might warrant some more consideration from voters. Huge week for them this week, too: CJ, Fenwick, Thomas Worthington and Olentangy all on the schedule.St. Ignatius dropping 2 in a row is interesting. Lost to rival St. Ed in 4 last night and got swept by Mt. Vernon today.
Carroll also loses again, this time to DeSales 25-18, 25-20. Will be interesting to see if that shakes up the D2 polls this week.
All of Alters seniors have been out for the past two weeks. Two weeks ago was senior trip in DC and this week they were in Florida for spring break. This means that Alter lost their two best hitters, including one of the best in the entire GCL, Alex Tornes. They lost their very talented setter and libero too. This is the reason for their scores as of lately. I’m interested to see how good they perform with all of their players back in town this week. The Alter stuff is wild. I can give a bit of a rundown of CJ’s team this year. They are currently 14-3 with wins to Alter, Carroll, and Fenwick but with loses to Lakota East and McNick.Looking at stats, it looks like Alter's usual starting setter, Darnieder, hasn't played the past couple of matches. From last night's stats for Carroll vs. CJ, it looks like Cannon only played 1 out of 4 sets and Bauersfeld played 3 out of 4 and that's 2 of their bigger contributors. Other than that, might've just been too long a layoff for spring break, or we're not giving CJ enough credit. After all, they're not 11-3 for no reason. They do have a couple head-scratching losses, but they've now beaten Alter (in 3 with the last 2 not being close), Fenwick and Carroll 3 matches in a row.
Thanks for the info! Definitely sounds like we need to give full strength CJ more credit!I can give a bit of a rundown of CJ’s team this year. They are currently 14-3 with wins to Alter, Carroll, and Fenwick but with loses to Lakota East and McNick.
The day before the first game of the year, CJs setter tested positive for mono and forced him to not be able to play for 11 games. This can help explain the loses early in the season. Their backup setter was actually a middle, who now plays outside with the setter being back. Without their real setter, they were still able to go 8-3.
The games that the setter has played in are Alter (who CJ swept pretty easily), Fenwick(CJ won in 5), and Carroll(CJ won in 4)
In the CJ vs Carroll game, Cannon Tucker hurt his ankle in the middle of the first set while CJ was in the lead. This did change the dynamic of the game. Other than Cannon getting injured, the rest of Carrolls starters played. The whole game is able to be watched on Carrolls Youtube channel if you are interested.
Not a non-league match, but CJ @ Badin tonight has big D2 and GCL-Coed implicationsBig non league matches tonight
Moeller @ Centerville
Beavercreek @ Elder round 2
Both should be great matches. Anymore that I’m missing for tonight ?
GCL Coed has multiple big games tonightNot a non-league match, but CJ @ Badin tonight has big D2 and GCL-Coed implications
Where were the seniors??GCL Coed has multiple big games tonight
Fenwick vs Carroll
CJ vs Badin
Alter vs McNick
I’ll be interested to see how Carroll will be able to bounce back from a tough week and how Alter will do after their seniors had such a long break.
I believe in another post it was said they had a school trip and then spring break back-to-back or somethingWhere were the seniors??
They were one senior trip and spring break in FloridaWhere were the seniors??
Loving the GCL Co-Ed this year! Badin gets lucky by being in the South region and they get to avoid Carroll, CJ, Fenwick and AlterThey were one senior trip and spring break in Florida
Results from tonight in the GCL Coed:
Badin beat CJ in 4
Alter best McNick in 5
Fenwick beat Carroll in 4
It was not senior night, but absolutely yes—the Elks came in and took care of business.Hearing Centerville beat Moeller on Moe's Senior night. Solid win for the Elks.
Rough couple of matches for the Crusaders. Obviously injuries hurting them, and they don't have experienced depth.
Can Moe bounce back at the Elite tournament and get a few needed wins to keep them in the top 5 area? Otherwise I could guess Beavercreek, Walnut, and Centerville will pass them up. Not that rankings mean much still if Moe can get healthy and finish strong.
I can’t believe the coach at a program with the success they’ve had would be okay with that. Although not much you can do if they’re just going. Not a fan of leaving your team out to dry like that. I understand and believe kids should have their fun, but why not schedule senior trip after the season? They were one senior trip and spring break in Florida

Yes, Moe's struggles aren't directly related to their injured setter. Against Elder, there didn't seem to be much difference in play after Marcum was hurt. Outside of Patterson, who seems to be struggling at outside, the offense is lacking. Also, Elder with an impressive 3 set win over Beavercreek tonight. Looks to be a great revenge match on Friday night for the Panthers against X!It was not senior night, but absolutely yes—the Elks came in and took care of business.
There is only 1 injury affecting Moe, and it’s not as significant as one may think. The bigger issue is mental.
This is 3 losses for Moe out of the last 4 matches. Up next on Thursday—a LaSalle team they struggled mightily with earlier this season. Coach McLaughlin would love nothing more than to beat his former school (team) on their court. I’m thinking it may happen. Goodnight Irene.
... I was talking about Alter? No - all seniors that were healthy were playing. You are probably mistaken for Archbishop Alter
