Though frustrating at times and with terrible camera work, with a tiny crowd of a little over 6,000, the Defenders (2-0) were able to come from six down to record the 18-6 win last night against Vegas (0-2) on the road. The wind and rain made the passing game practically impossible at times. Jordan Ta'amu (Mississippi) only completed 11–23 passes for 93 yards. Vegas had two quarterbacks throw passes: Luis Perez (Texas A&M-Commerce) started and went 1-5 for zero yards, and Brett Hundley (UCLA) went 11-18 for a whopping 98 yards. DeAndre Torrey (North Texas) had the only touchdown for Vegas in all he had 3 rushes for 5 yards, Former Ohio State Buckeye Rod Smith was the Vipers leading rusher totaling 38 yards on 6 carries. Jawuan Johnson (TCU) led the Vegas defense with seven tackles. For the winners: Abram Smith had a touchdown and was the leading rusher with 11 carries for 71 yards. Back-up quarterback Deriq King (Miami) had four carries for 32 yards and a touchdown. Matthew McCrane had a 34-yard field goal.
