Have I been looking at the wrong computer rankings? I see Wayne vs. Centerville @ Centerville. Hillard Darby is 12th. Or did something change in the play-offs that I'm not aware of?

16 teams make the playoffs in the new format. So Wayne is 5th seed and they play the 12th seed Hilliard Darby

Not sure yet? Excited for playoffs though! Warrior team this year dont think as good as last years team but got more favorable matchup in 1st rd. then last year vs Moeller who won state title!

Thanks for the info! I wonder why the info isn't at the OHSAA web site? (That I can find). I'm sure it has to be there but the link for 2013 Tournament Regulations are the old rules.

Why do you think that? I think this years team is much better than last years.

The Wayne Warriors have been very successful against Columbus area schools in the past, They have won four and only lost two against teams from that area.

This will be the 7th time Wayne has played a team from the metropolitan Columbus area. They have played and beat, Worthington Kilborne (1999 at Welcome Stadium), Grove City (2000 at Heidkamp Stadium), and Hilliard Davidson (2010 at Welcome Stadium). The Warriors fell to Upper Arlington (2000 at Upper Arlington), and split a home and away game with Gahanna Lincoln (2004 & 2013).

I've found an old news article http://goo.gl/e4gJfV that explains it all. I knew of D1 changes but did not know that the play-offs for D1, (exclusively), changed, till now.

Hilliard Darby doesn't have the long resume of either Wayne or Hilliard Davidson. The first 10 years (the school opened in '97) were pretty bleak, with only one winning season and two seasons that were 5-5. Six out of the last seven years, the Panthers have had winning seasons, with the exception being 2009, which was the first year that Hilliard Bradley opened.

That said, things are definitely moving in a good direction for Hilliard Darby. This year was anticipated to be somewhat of a rebuilding season, so to go 8-2 and make the playoffs is a good accomplishment. So now, it is time to take the next step!

Here's a website about the program: http://darbyfootball.weebly.com/.

GO PANTHERS, beat Wayne!

Wayne is undefeated at home in the playoffs and under Coach Minton are undefeated in the playoffs in games played in the Dayton area which includes wins over St.Xavier twice including their nationally ranked team, Moeller, Elder, Hilliard Davidson, and a nationally ranked Worthington Kilbourne, to name some of the big name teams to go down to the Warriors.

I don't know what the fan bases are like in the Columbus area but there is definitely a home field advantage at Wayne as they have the "12th man" as well as the "Best Damn Band in the Land" which are football crazy. The team feeds off the fans.

Teams that are successful against Wayne mix it up on offense and have a QB who can scramble and make plays with both his arm and feet. Darby is a run team if their is no threat of a passing game it will be a long night for them. If Darby does not have an aggressive physical secondary I do not see how they will be able to slow down Wayne.

Hopefully the Wayne fan base will be into this game like they have the last two home games. Most of them have probably never heard of Darby and I hope that doesn't take away from the intensity.

Go WAYNE! GO GWOC!

Wayne is the decided favorite, but I suspect Darby will show up and compete. No resume wins over the Saints and Archbishops of Cincy, but some good wins over the locals (Davidson -- '07, '12).

You are correct... Darby is definitely a run-first team, but has used the pass effectively at times. It would be a shame if the Wayne fans aren't into the game, just because they have no idea who Darby is. Darby is a program on the rise, and this might not be the only meeting over the next few years.

Hilliard Darby fans - tips for attending game at wayne! 1) bring something to sit on because there is bird crap all over the bleachers.(I guess they can't afford to clean) 2) The field is hard to see in the middle because they have no bank of lights in the middle of the field on the home side! 3) The band director has the band in the end zone and has them playing while visiting team is running plays - it gets worse if you have the lead! 4) Don't eat the hot dogs on visitor side - they don't get cooked! Other then that have a nice time! And yes Wayne we will be seeing you again on a nuetral field! OK bring up past seasons- new game new year!

LOL

1) Wayne was unable to put up the new 20 row visitor bleachers as they would of ended up too close to the yards behind them. CJ also plays their home games there and no one has complained about bird poop. The only week that they do not get cleaned is Centerville week!!!
2) I have never had a problem seeing the field maybe it is the blur of the Wayne receivers running in for scores against the ELKS.
3) The band is there to support the football team and to play unlike your band who doesn't go to road games and who puts people to sleep when they do play. Only two teams have complained about Wayne's band over the years. Centerville and Moeller.
4) Never ate over there cannot comment. Darby fans are welcome to come over to the Wayne side and eat at the concessions. Take care of business in week 11 and we will do the same. See you in week 12 at Welcome!

The 12th man has been very big the last two home games. I am not sure if the game being moved to Friday hurt but I was not happy that more people were not at the game. I am hoping that with this being a Saturday game and a Playoff we see all the seats filled. Vamps I can not remember but Season ticket holders do get their seats right ?

Yes.

Some people, NFA cough cough, buy a bunch of season tickets but don't use all the seats all the time. I've noticed that since the kick-offs have been moved up to 7 we get a late crowd. It's playoffs. Remember Welcome where the Radio guys thought we were having an Earth Quake but it was just those crazy Wayne fans being led by the

RED SEA

and no, that is not the student section.....

yeah I have noticed the crowds have been getting there late. You can not blame people for that I have not been a fan of the early time. It has cause me to miss most of the away games due to work. Its a shame that the RED SEA is not together for home games. I do think if the crowd can get going like it did for the Centerville game its nothing but trouble for Darby

The ten day forecast has Saturday looking good. I wonder if the Darby fans travel good. They had 5000 fans at their last game.

Wife and I just had our 3rd kid and that is why she hasn't been there. And yes I buy tickets for the seats in front of me that are butt mold that nobody has claimed. So my feet claim them and I help Wayne with making more money.

Wow thnx for the tips vamps and co.
Maybe poor little Darby shouldn't even bother to show up for this one.
HHW definitely the favorite but ill give Darby a punchers chance.
Darby has played in some big games the past two yrs and would expect them to be ready for the challenge.
Played Davidson and the westervilles who all have sick athleticism and team speed. Pick North last yr too.
The only somewhat common opponents that we have faced are Davidson-bevercreek and Westerville South-northmont.
Not sure if you can gauge anything on that or not.

Vamps et all,
Darby played the Wayne frosh 2 yrs ago and it was a real good competitive game with Wayne coming back from a big early deficit and winning a thriller. This is the now Jr class.
The QB was pretty good from what I remember, is he your guy now?
Darby has about 5 starters on O and 4 on D from that group.

If this is the same coaching staff from "10" I believe who stretched Hilliard Davidsons "D" out with quick outpasses in the first half then attacked the middle in the second I think Darby will have their hands full. That strategy was effective and helped Braxton and Co. defeat a solid HD defense. I believe Darby is a sound team who have earned a trip to the play-offs but coaching is huge at this point and I must give the nod to Wayne.

3.) Band director or helper got a warning from the ref and then had a "smart comment" back. That caused a slight delay in the game. The band supports their team and does stop playing when the offense comes to the line, as per the ruling. (( Sect 12 - G) Bands shall not play music at football games while the ball is in play, or while signals are being called by the quarterback. )

4.) Hot dogs on the visitor side are just fine. Have them EVERY home game and never had an issue. The concession is a bit small so either get in line early or go over to the home side.

Wayne's QB is D. Trice. He has completed 183 of 287 passes for 2424 yards 28 TD's and just 3 interceptions. He has also rushed for 3 TD's. He was the JV QB from last year on a team that averaged nearly 60 ppg. He probably was the freshman QB but not sure about that.

Wayne was picked to finish 3rd or 4th in league this year as they needed to replace the O-line and D-lines, new QB and top WR. They lost a lot from the previous year plus the high pay to play fee's cut numbers down by 30 and their is a lack of depth. This team believes in themselves and proved people wrong by winning the league. Looks like both teams are over achieving and very excited being where they are at.
