I'd say Austin Berry from Summit Country Day would be there. MLS Rookie of the year in 2012 for the Chicago Fire. Hard to argue with that.

Berry is certainly a great choice.

Marc (sp?) Burch of Turpin would also have to be a candidate. Scored game-winning goal for Maryland in NCAA title game (I think) and started for many seasons at DC United (at defender after being a forward in high school for Turpin's back-to-back state championship teams in 2000 and 2001).

At Madeira, we've had two off-the-charts high school players. Jimmy Cummings went 62-3-1 in his 3 varsity seasons (freshman year at Moeller) with undefeated state championship teams his junior and senior seasons. Sam Bascom was Co-MVP of the High School All-American Game last year, among some awesome talents. He's now a freshman at Navy.

Other greats off the top my head: Noschang (sp?) and Mellencamp from Lakota West (early 2000's), Jack Cummings and the elder Schtewei (sp?) from Summit's 1999 state title team.

I almost put these two down. I think they played for Indiana, but that was the last I heard of them.

I think you're right. I know that Mellencamp got major time with Indiana -- I think post-Jerry Yeagley (not certain). Both Jack Cummings and Shtewei also got offers from Indiana with Shtewei going to Bloomington and Cummings heading to South Carolina. Shtewei transferred to Kentucky after his freshman year, and I believe he made All-Region, if not All-American, as a Wildcat.

There was a third player from that Lakota West team that had a nice career at Ohio State - drawing a blank on the name.

The player was Ryan Kustos. Eric Edwards from Milford scored the game winner in the national semifinal for OSU in 2007.

College players from that CUP team of 2002 and 2003:
Kevin Noschang-Indiana
John Mellencamp-Indiana
Ryan Kustos-Ohio State
Sam Miller-UC
Richard Campbell-Dayton
Travis King-Navy
Ryan Kohler-UNC Ashville
Eric Schultz-Wilmington College
Jeff Johnson-North Carolina Wesleyan
Adam Midkiff-Kentucky

Good memory, and that was one heckuva club team!

How did Lakota West do during the Noschang/Mellencamp/Kustos years? I was thinking they reached the state semis in 2000 and/or 2002, but I'm not at all certain. Only time I saw them play was during the 2002 District All-Star game, and I was blown away by Noschang's speed.
