Bellbrook 69, Northmont 30

If the entire game played out as the third quarter did tonight at the Bellbrook gym, the Lady Golden Eagles would have had a struggle on their hands. Unfortunately for visiting Northmont, the other three quarters counted as well, resulting in a 69-30 final.

Since a loss to Eaton 18 days ago, the Eagles have been a team on a mission, with decisive wins against Wilmington (65-47), Brookville (67-41), and Monroe (77-32), and a gutty OT come from behind victory at the Classic in the Country tourney against fellow state-ranked Akron Hoban (45-40). The past few weeks also saw senior Erin Dorn join the career 1000-point club, and fellow senior G Etter set a school record for playing in more winning basketball games than any other player in Bellbrook history. With four regular season games remaining (Franklin, Oakwood, Valley View, and Carroll), they know that it will take a total team effort to extend their season.

Tonight’s scoring opened with a rare 3 point shot from Bellbrook post player Emily Smith. The lid was on the basket for Northmont the first half in particular, leading to a halftime score of 28-7, including a 19-0 run by Bellbrook. Halftime adjustments led to a more evenly contested third quarter, when Northmont scored 14 to the Eagles’ 17.

Bellbrook’s reserves put their own stamp on the fourth quarter, outscoring their opponents 24-9, including 3 point baskets from Katelyn York, Hana Midtlien, and Erin Dorn. Eagle fans were happy to see the return from injury of freshman Celeste Etter, who contributed two treys of her own. The Eagles continue to get strong play in the paint on both ends of the court from Chea Taylor, Kelly Neumann, Emily Smith, and a rapidly maturing Anna Nicholson.

Northmont was led by Johna Eller with 9 points. Also contributing to the Bolts’ effort were Brittany Edwards with 5, Kaitlyn Maas and Shaeyla Givens with 4, Shelby Stephens with 3, Raquel Robinson and Charity Gayles with 2, and India Redd with 1.

Bellbrook had a balanced attack once again, with 12 girls in the scoring column. Erin Dorn led with 12, followed closely by Chea Taylor’s 11. G Etter had 8, Kelly Neumann 7, Celeste Etter 6, Emily Smith and Katelyn York 5; Madi Hofacker and Hannah Songer with 4 each; Hana Midtlien 3, and Madi Pittman and Anna Nicholson 2 each.

Good write up. The score was no surprise. Northmont is way down this year, with just two wins (West Carrollton and Springfield).
