Article: Bellbrook Survives a Trip to the Pit, Topping Oakwood 52-28
Oakwood’s Pit is an intimidating place for any visiting team, with its gladiatorial feel and constricted throw-in areas. The Bellbrook Lady Eagles did not let the unfriendly confines keep them from another SWBL win Saturday afternoon, prevailing over the Lady Jills 52-28.
Neither team scored until more than 3 minutes into the game, when a bucket by Bellbrook’s Kelly Neumann opened a 6-0 run. Oakwood closed the gap to 4 midway through the second quarter, but that was as close as they would come. Oakwood senior Elizabeth Haley’s 16 points, 7 of those in the fourth quarter, were not enough to counter Bellbrook’s fast-paced attack. Anne Whalen and Georgie Murdock added 6 points each for the Jills.
Bellbrook junior Chea Taylor led the Eagles with 15, including several putbacks of offensive rebounds. Erin Dorn had 12, and G Etter 6. Madi Hofacker (6 points) and Hannah Songer (2 points) displayed gritty play on both ends of the court. Emily Smith scored 4 and Kelly Neumann added 2. Kara Eckley had one of Bellbrook’s two 3 point goals coming off the bench late in the fourth quarter, and Madi Pittman added 2 in the closing minutes as well.
Bellbrook next plays at the Lakota West Invitational next weekend.
