The Chaminade Julienne girls’ basketball team recovered well from a loss to Carroll on Saturday, besting the area’s top-ranked D2 team, the Bellbrook Golden Eagles, 45-29 Monday night at Bellbrook. With a swarming defense and a multi-pronged offensive attack that saw 8 girls score, CJ overcame a 9-5 first quarter deficit. Opening the second quarter with a 7-0 run, they never looked back. With Erin Dorn sitting much of the first half with foul trouble, and G Etter noticeably affected by a lingering illness, Bellbrook was never able to mount an effective counter-attack. Hannah Songer came off the bench to try to provide a spark in the second quarter. She finished with 6 points, as did Emily Smith. Chea Taylor and Dorn had 5, Etter 4, and Kelly Neumann added 3.
CJ was led by Brittaney Jefferson with 10, including 7 in the fourth quarter. Erinn Bailey matched Jefferson’s total, followed by Krista White with 6. Ja’Cole Tabor and Haleigh Shaw added 5 points each. Baryn Martin had 4, Maggie Mochty 3, and Keirra Pollard 2.
CJ 5 16 8 16 45
BELLBROOK 9 8 4 8 29
CJ: Jefferson 10, Bailey 10, White 6, Tabor 5, Shaw 5, Martin 4, Mochty 3, Pollard 2
B: Smith 6, Songer 6, Dorn 5, Taylor 5, G Etter 4, Neumann 3
3 pts: CJ 5 (Bailey 2, Shaw, Mochty, Jefferson)

Good article. Bellbrook without a single trey and just 29 points? They scored over 50 in their other six games. Looks like Bellbrook laid an egg tonight.
I was hoping that was what CJ did against Carroll saturday, because 17 points seemed to be a bad loss to them.
CJ is down a little this year, after graduating Raytea Long and Emily Michael. As a team their shooting percent is low, and they don't have a good three point shooter (like Emily Michael last year). CJ was 0 for 14 on treys vs Carroll.
But. they apply a lot of defensive pressure, all over the court. If you can't handle it, you probably lose (Beavercreek and Bellbrook). If you have some solid ball handlers, you can do well against CJ (Wilmington and Carroll).
