The Red Cross is taking heavy criticism in NY/NJ for doing very little to ease the burden.

I no longer give to the Red Cross after what happened post-9/11, when it was revealed that they used millions and millions of dollars collected for 9/11 relief to build a palatial HQ and hand out huge raises to the higher-ups. If there is a way to help that goes local and doesn't have the huge overhead and layers of money-sucking bureaucracy siphoning off the money intended to help the needy, I'll give.
