I understand that tryouts are very competitive, at least 20 freshman played JO during the winter, and there are only spots for 12. The varsity will be great again, I think this is the year. Not much competition in the Federal League, but some non-league games will test us.

I'm sure Coach Walck will have the team up to the task. Even if the team were to not win the Fed (I'm sure they'll be favored to), they will be prepared to make a long run in the State Tournament. Lot's of talent in Polar Bear Country and it's being coached up.
Coach Walck not only has a great team, but he has a great program. Those girls WANT to play for him. Perry will be good, Lake improving, Hoover's emphasis is basketball, so I think another undefeated league season is probable.

At Jackson tryouts are always competitive and if you are not doing JO's in the off season you are already behind. Players use everytime your on the floor to get better and be coachable. It will payoff in the long run.

As always Coach Walck will have the Polar Bears prepared for the longhaul. Playing in November is the Goal but what matters is what will the Ladies do to get there. I have watched this TEAM grow and dominate and there is no sneeking up on anyone in Stark County or anywhere else for that matter. No Pressure!!!
Good Luck to the Coaches, Freshman, JV, and Varsity Players.
In order to get to Dayton, we will have to beat some good teams. The schedule should have them ready, and I know that Coach will have them ready, season starts in 3 short weeks.

I had a friendly discussion last night with a Perry Mom, she said that they have looked great in their scrimmages, and that Jackson may be ripe for an upset. I can't see that happening, although 16 and 17 year old girls are fickle. That is one thing that Coach Walck will not permit, Overconfidence.
I am ready for the Jackson scrimmage on Aug. 18. My understanding is that Wadsworth, Hudson and some little D III school from Central Ohio will be there. It will be a great day of volleyball.
Jackson has the most talent, and a great coach. Perry is a program on the rise, with a lot of enthusiasm. They have senior leadership. Lake is young, but the number of girls trying out and playing JO is rising. They will improve as the year goes on. Hoover might be the most athletic, but VB is a second sport for several, and they also have a great coach. GO is a huge school, it should get better, but they are putting freshman on the Varsity, out of lack of depth. Boardman and McKinley just cant hang with the elite teams, they hope to score an upset or two, at best.
Although the Vikings play both VB & BB, they have the history of being in the running for the league title year in and year out. With their pool of players and coaching, I see them again knocking on the door for another possible league championship.
1. Jackson
2. Hoover
3. Perry
4. Lake
5. Boardman
6. Glen Oak
7. McKinley
I am not picking on the Vikings, and I have seen some of those great teams, and seen what that Coach has done, and I respect it all. Yet, the basketball emphasis takes away from Vb time, and they always seem to lose early in the tournament. That's why I think that other Fed League teams and programs have passed them.

With being a freshman and 11 posts...go with the experienced picks from NPVB and myself.
That same thought process you proclaim had been with all the Polar Bear football followers for years and look how they did last season.
Vikings have to much tradition (with or without basketball emphasis) to not be in the hunt for the Federal League Title!

Its All Good has Hoover to low. I attribute his limited knowledge to his freshman status with 14 posts. The Vikings with their long winning tradition deserve to be at least ranked 2nd until proven otherwise. This is how I see the power rankings:
Federal League Power Rankings.....Week 1
1. Jackson...Defending League Champs will get tested during next 10 days with matches against both Perry & Hoover.
2. North Canton....Swept a decent Louisville team away, Thursday at Perry will settle any doubters.
3. Perry...by Thursday night, we will know how good the Lady Panthers really are...Jackson and N Canton are tough back to back
4. Lake...nice win against an average team, the Blue Streaks wait before playing better teams
5. Glenoak....experience will help as the season progresses
6 Boardman....better than McKinley, but thats about it
7 McKinley...Good coaches help, but the program needs to grow,
Jackson's new name is The Machine. I feel this way because after watching Jackson dominate Perry tonight it was no contest. At one point in the 2nd game it was 11-0 Jackson and the Panthers looked like a deer caught in the headlights. The thing that stood out was at 23-9 Coach Waulk was doing just that coaching his players. Nice crowd in attendance and it lasted just under an hour. If you have a chance to see Jackson play do it there are worth the price of admission.
