Just saw on twitter Fairfield is getting turf for the upcoming season thanks to Mercy hospital. So that leaves Middletown as the only GMC school without turf.

I love the grass field at Barnitz. I hope we stick with it. The players love it too. Turf is much easier to take care of but they do a great job of taking care of the grass at the Barn.

Just pointing it out as far as grass fields go Middletown has to be one of the best.

The Middies have a classic football stadium that only plays football on that surface. It stays very very nice thanks to the grounds crew, and they should keep that facility the same it have been for years.
Thats a pretty good spot to host some D2 and down playoff games. Close to 275, alot better than Hamilton for most schools. Not saying that Hamilton does not have a nice field, it is just kind of hard to get to.

2 band members from Colerain went down with ankle injuries because of the holes in the field. Thursday game was a short turn around but playing surface was not good
The other big change being made at the stadium is that the on field locker rooms are being converted into a single home team locker complex complete with coach’s office and a much larger locker room. Visiting teams will now use a locker room at the Middle school. This is definitely a win/win for all involved as the current locker room complex was inadequate for two teams.
Adding turf and upgrading the locker rooms will make Fairfield Stadium a pretty decent place to play football. At least we’ve seen our last mud bowl there (which in a strange way is a bit sad)!

The middle school has to be wrong. There are three schools closer than the FMS. Fairfield Central Elementary, Fairfield Intermediate School, and Fairfield Freshman school. The middle school, while still close, would probably require a bus ride from locker rooms to playing location.

The way it was described to me was that it was the school on the other side of the parking lot from the stadium where all the buses are parked in the back. I always call that school the "Middle School" but I'm thinking that's actually the Intermediate school?

Well at this risk of taking this thread off track from its discussions of the Colerain Bands difficulty handling the field conditions at Barnitz stadium here is a statement on the stadium improvements that is posted at the Fairfield City Schools Website:
We are pleased to announce a new partnership with Mercy Health-Fairfield Hospital. In a special meeting Friday morning (June 22), the board accepted a pledge from Mercy in the amount of $600,000 for the purpose of replacing the old field at Fairfield Stadium with synthetic turf.
This partnership is the culmination of over four years of work by various individuals from the district and athletic department. It will not only benefit the schools, but the Fairfield community. This generous sponsorship from Mercy is just the beginning of what we as partners will be able to do for our students, their families and the community.
I want to emphasize that no taxpayer money will be used for the field turf purchase. Mercy’s contribution will come in payments of $10,000 per month over 60 months. The district has entered what is called a lease-purchase agreement with Fifth Third Bank that we will pay in monthly installments to the bank over the 60 months. The Athletic Fund will pay $9,975.49 each month toward the lease-purchase agreement, with all revenue and expenditures to be tracked in a separate account within the Athletic Fund.
The board also approved an agreement with The Motz Group, LLC to install the synthetic turf field. Payments to Motz will come from the lease purchase money via Fifth Third Bank.
Installation of the new field will begin immediately following the Drum & Bugle Corps Show next week. We expect it to be ready for play for the first home football game August 31 versus Toledo Rogers High School. What a great way to open the 2012 season!
This project represents the first phase of our field renovation plan. We have also received outside donations to renovate the fieldhouse and a new track will be installed after the football season.
We are extremely grateful for Mercy’s commitment to the FCSD and the Fairfield Athletic Department. It signals the beginning of a new and fresh era in our relationship with Mercy in the form of a comprehensive sports medicine partnership that will have a positive impact on our student-athletes.
It will not only benefit our football team, but also serve as a place for many of our other teams to use in competition and practices. This stadium – a place with great tradition and history – will be updated to a standard that aligns with other schools in the GMC and makes it a much more valuable venue now and into the future.
The pride and the tradition in Fairfield live on. The vision that we have will continue. It’s a great day to be a Fairfield Indian!

Exciting news for Fairfield!
Had anyone else heard a rumor about the possibility of the City of Fairfield purchasing the land the stadium sits on to expand Nilles to connect with Donald Drive? That obviously appears to be a dead deal now.
Field turf was needed but a renovation of the visitor stands was needed more. They sit too low making it very difficult to see the field. They're in very poor condition, and the top row under the press box is always blocked off to make way for the extension cord running through the stands up to the press box. Yep, you heard it correctly, they have extension cords running out the front window of the press box and down across and through the bleachers. Can they spend a bit of that money to run electric up to the box ? Despite the inconvenience, it's a fairly large safety hazard to have electric cords running amongst the fans... not good Fairfield.
I always liked the grass at Barnitz Field. The fact that they only play high school football on it is great. I have worked on grass fields where they also play Jr high and pee wee football, boys and girls soccer and band use, the grass is gone midway through the season. Now I wonder when the Atrium Hospital will step up and help put turf in. They did in Franklin and Mason (I wonder how many people from Mason even know where the Atrium is). The hospital has stated they want to do something with the Middletown schools but I do not hear them beating the doors down.
The OHSAA would love turf as they know there is stadium that can hold nearly 10,000 people sitting empty due to their stipulation that they will use only turf fields for playoff games.

Aren't there some sticky logistics with the Barnitz Foundation or something with the field turf? Another philanthropic group cannot also contribute? This could be totally off base......just something I remember seeing on here over the years.

Don't look for Premier Health Partners (Atrium) to fund anymore turf/stadium projects in the near future. Premier had some extra money to spend to retain their non-profit status. That money is no longer available.
Drove by the stadium today and the bulldozers, bob cats and loaders were out in force ripping up the grass field. They weren’t kidding when they said work would begin immediately after the Drum & Bugle show on Wednesday night!
BTW, FF will also be getting a new track which will go in right after the football season.
If you want pictures, follow Coach Jason Krause on Twitter. https://twitter.com/fairfieldfb He's been posting a lot of pictures and I'm sure he'll keep posting them until the turf is fully installed.
