According to ABC, the Steubenville jobs will reach to around the $77,000 range. These are not minimum wage jobs we're talking about.

Do some extensive research on this whole "boom town" phenomenon. Steubenville may gain a large amount of business do to the gas/oil industry, but if history proves correct, those high paying jobs are going to experienced men from out of state who will either rent a home or live in a hotel for a year or two and move on to the next drilling area. I hope eastern Ohio receives a long term economic boom because it is long overdue, my only fear is the potential environmental problems that arise from the oil/gas industry. I hope all goes well and the communities back there thrive and see much needed infrastructure improvements and financial sustainability, but long term rewards aren't normally seen with this type of industry unless you're a property owner with a successful well.

Maybe not strictly looking at the residents of each city, but if you are saying Youngstown is resposible for the success of the people in the suburbs, then apparently Youngstown is not doing so bad if the incomes are higher and unemployment rates are lower in all of those suburbs. What overspill has Steubenville's economy had in their surrounding areas?

2002Sunset,

If you guys are banking on those jobs pay averages being reality, you really are being optimistic. You need to realize the vast majority of the jobs will be low paying and there may be a small percentage of high paying jobs. Job A may pay $10 an hour and Job B may pay $40/hr, which is an average of $25 an hour. Sounds great right? But in reality there are going to be 30 openings for Job A and 2 or 3 for Job B. That's not going to average to $25 an hour per employee.

Also, not sure why you wouldn't be interested in per household income to look at the condition of the town economically. The more money you have available in the town, the more money that's coming into the town through sales, property, and possibly income taxes.
Agreed, but I am not really banking on anything. I work in IT and have no interest in this "boom" other than the obvious reasons that could help the town. Even if these jobs were $10 an hour (which they are not) it is not a bad thing.

I don't care to debate about two fairly depressed areas, especially on a thread about a football schedule. The only facts I see are that Steubenville has the possibility of gaining a lot of jobs, Youngstown probably does not.

It's great to see that Macon is doing so well. Hopefully Toledo will be on TV out here on the West Coast and I'll be able to see him.

Every Toledo game last year was either on TV or streamed on ESPN3. Should be the case again this year. There are very few games of any school anymore that aren't at least streamed

I suppose you don't live here. I know things are booming down on the River, but don't think for a second they aren't starting to drum up around Youngstown. BP just dueled out $330 million to landowners of 25% of Trumbull County. Between the signing bonuses, royalty payments, oil jobs, manufacturing jobs, etc. the Valley will soon be booming!

And to Sunset22, I beg to differ. http://www.dailymarkets.com/economy/...ext-boom-town/

No, I don't live there. But I am very seriously thinking of moving back. I'll be in town in the fall to see some Big Red football games. When I'm there I'll check things out.

Agreed. Those are the facts.

But will Obama allow success, freedom and capitalism......again .......make our country great?...Or will he continue to stall the implementation of obvious answers to our energy needs......to pacify his tree-hugging, frog licking friends?

That's what hurts Youngstown even more than Steubenville...the entrenched democratic machinery.

They will find some way to screw up prosperity...that's what democrats do.

Maybe some more "earthquake" scares and video of faucets in fire.

IF I ever run for office, I would appreciate the support of all of you guys on this board. I don't think I could win though because too many voters here vote right down party lines.

Getting back to Big Red football, I think there is very little chance that we will fill week 9. Reno and Fred have probably contacted every school within a six-state area. I don't think there is anybody left. We will have to accept the reality that we will have a nine-game schedule.

Possibly. But just because a game hasn't been filled doesn't mean there wouldn't be prospects as to who might fill it. They're probably looking for a better deal (i.e., home game, possible regional or relevant competition, etc). Someone will bite at some point. Maybe an Illinois school will make the trip. Who knows.

It wouldn't be the first time we've played a team from Illinois. I wouldn't mind playing Mooseheart again, if they are still around. They are an orphanage similar to Boys Town, Nebraska.

I'm really looking forward to football season. I'm going to come home to see as many games as I can. I think the Red can go all the way this year.

I should be home for every game (or almost every game) this year. Which will be a first since the 2006 season. So, I'm looking forward to this year.

I agree, Naples Spaghetti house on the corner of 4th and North Streets behind the Convenient Food Mart is always a safe choice. Scaffidi's, on the plaza just past the stadium is also on the menu.. Try the Gnocci with pink sauce, but don't overdo it.

If you're going to Steubenville to see a football game, go to Scaffidi's. It is within walking distance of the stadium. If you're going to Steubenville for any other reason, go to Naples. It's a classic.
