..... and Hoover was immediately crowned state champs and Lake received 2nd place awards. All other D1 regionals in the state have been cancelled as we know no one else has a chance..

its always seemed a bit weird to me to have regular season games in the middle of the playoffs...sounds like a great game. and thanks for the compliment, it is nice to have just about everything on campus (now we just need to add a pool lol)

Was a great game. Both pitchers threw well, pitched out of jams, and both defenses made plays to get out of multiple jams to prolong the battle. 2 very good teams going at it.
Best wishes to the Lake girl that got hurt on the play at the plate.
It was 12-0 in the top of third apparently and Jenna Lilley hit an inside the park Grand Slam from what I'm hearing (may have been an error, but inside the parker is an inside the parker to me).
4th time in 5 years Massillon District Champion has won their Region. Each of the other three times that team won State as well.
Hoover will play Medina on Friday, June 1 at 3:00 at the ultimate softball destination: FIRESTONE STADIUM!
Congratulations to Coach Jerry and the Vikings for winning another regional title. It amazes me how consistent this team is. What really is wonderus is the number of underclassmen on this team. It was interesting that the Sophmore pitcher got the win. I hope that they can hang another banner in the Gym to go with the other State Titles that are up there. It looks like the program that runs in Greentown must be doing something right with the number of girls that started up there.
Vikings keep rolling, mowing down a pitcher who came in with a 0.64 ERA...its always tricky to compare teams but this is the best Hoover lineup 1-9 ive seen...an overpowering offense as a counterpoint to those years of getting it done with overpowering pitching. not that the pitching has been shabby...Russo gets the job done and Thacker is establishing herself as possibly that next dominate pitcher. nice "problem" to have two quality pitchers to decide between to hand the ball in a big game. and they both come back next year! along with a good chunk of the lineup...but first things first. go get em Friday Vikings! H-O-O-V-E-R!

Agreed! Congrats and good luck to the Lady Vikes!
Like last year, Hoover is very fortunate to have 2 top notch pitchers again this year (Jr & So). Pretty sure the rest of the starters are Srs (4), Jrs (2,), along with (2) Sophs. That's 45% seniors, 75% upper classmen. While it looks like they should be set at pitcher for the next couple of years, I wouldn't go as far as to say the number of underclassmen on the team is "wondrous". LOL
They will have a few (4) holes to fill next year but they'll return a very good nucleus. Along with a couple girls on their bench and JV this year, I believe they have a couple of girls that will be freshmen next year that will compete for those 4 starting spots.
I'm not sure how it all started but, I'd say that the program is built on solid, consistent leadership (like Coach Goodpasture and others before him). Like any top notch program, tradition and winning breeds interest. The more interest, the more talent there is that develops / is available.
Agreed, NC is fortunate to have a couple of nice "Rec Ball" leagues where younger girls that have an interest can get their toes wet / get their first taste of softball. Perhaps a couple of this year's and last year's starters may have started out in the Greentown rec ball league. However, the majority of those starters, I don't believe so....
Regardless of their "start", for this year's team, as in prior years, the "big dogs" developed their games through playing travel ball, most starting at an early age.
Anyhow.... good luck in Akron to ALL of the NORTH CANTON Hoover Lady Vikes!
Actually, a group of those top-notch girls did start together and spend time together in the Greentown rec ball leagues from what the kids and parents were saying on senior night. Sure, most kids who end up being serious varsity players play travel ball, but that doesn't take away the respect due to solid rec ball programs that instill good fundamental skills.

You may be correct, of the 17 girls on the roster, there could be a few. I can't say I've followed the rec leagues real closely.
Also, as stated in my original post, my reference was regarding the starters. Pretty sure most of the starters were playing travel ball at 10. I believe most of them together.
Those girls have spent long hours working on their own and working with private instructors. They have spent numerous summer days on the road playing with and against top level competition.
No disrespect to the rec ball leagues. Agreed, they are valuable and the NC & Greentown rec leagues are nice and serve a purpose and provide a great starting place for those that choose it.
However, to alude to the Greentown Rec Ball league being the NC feeder system because a handful of girls on the roster spent a season or 2 in it is ludicrous.
