Hopefully if this is done right, the new facility can be a money maker for the whole county by bringing in outside activities such as potential playoff games (football and soccer), band competitions, and such. Tradition or not, the only thing the other money the old field could bring in is maybe a "Cowpie Bingo" game.
All kidding aside, the old field has an awesome history that will never be forgotten. Now let's make some new history........
Will the new field be grass or Field Turf? If its grass there will be NO football playoff games (Eaton could have a home game for round 1) but that's all. I do not know how the OHSAA feels about soccer playoff fields.
The turf question may have been asked before so if so don't jump on me.
Drove by the field yesterday and the field looks as good as I have ever seen it.,Someone is really doing a great job of making sure that it will be in the best shape possible for the last season to be played there.Looking forward to a great season!!
I'm with you Frogbear, normally anything alk4474 says is usually a dig of some kind.. It is nice to know that some appreciated the surroundings of Park Ave. Field
I'm all for history and nostalgia.... to a point. I too, have played (and coached) there. I realize the field is/was a huge part of the Eaton football tradition, but it's time to move on to a more modern facility. The Eagles deserve it (as well as the opponents!). I must say, I will miss all the booing from the fans in the lawn chairs, though!
It would be nice if they were able to incorporate something from the old stadium into the new stadium. If only for nastalgia's sake. Not sure what or how. Just a thought.

I know for a fact that some of the turf is coming to the new stadium. The idea is for the team to walk in on the grass, walking on the turf of the ghosts and then entering onto the new. I believe there will be a rock and plaque with some saying to communicate the meaning of the grassy area. You know how Coach Neanen is about the ghosts.
It would be nice if they could take some stones from 7 mile creek and create a sort of column that a stone with a plaque could sit atop. The column could stand at the end of the grass walkway. The players could then tap the stone as they enter the stadium paying homage to those that played before them. Sort of like Clemsons entrance into their stadium. Google "Clemson, Howards Rock".
Not sure about the goal posts. There has been talk of still using this as a pee wee field. not sure about the safety issues. The posts were new in 06', donated by Jim Bolinger and Westwind Limo.
They better not leave those posts there for a pee wee field. I am sure those are not cheap to purchase and it would be ridiculous to add an unnecessary cost with today's economy.
Was at Park Ave Field last night to watch the class of 2012 graduate. The field is in wonderful shape. Walking on the grass I could remember that same feel from 23 years ago. My son told me as he sat there listening to the speeches he would drift off in thought to games played there. The boys lining up to get pics together talking about what is now their glory days. It will be sad to see the grand lady go but also joyous to see the new beginning that is more than deserved by this town. To all you Eaton fans, dig a little and help get this project done. Congratulations to the class of 2012. You have brought us many great memories.
Good luuck to Cole, Joey, Andrew and the rest of the graduating class. They can all be proud that the kept the Eaton winning tradition alive and they are passing the torch to another group of fine men.
I agree. The junior class is a much tighter group than the seniors. I believe this will be a junior lead team. You have Shepherd and Holderman in the senior class but that is about it as leaders. The juniors will have to learn under fire and push this team forward
Not sure about mid field...with soccer hard to say. I really haven't heard anything but will put my ear to the ground and see if I can come up with something. Did hear that at the board meeting they will decide on the architect for the project. Good news, the Boosters have 25,000 in the new concession fund.
Hopefully they don't do a reserved seat section with the stands. I do like how VV has a section for wheelchairs though. Hopefully that is taken into consideration.
I am pretty sure they are thinking of a reserved section. Everybody seems to have one and well you know we can't be different. Heard rumors there was to be a private box for Double M's of the board. You know , a box where they can watch cross country tapes during the game. I also like the handicap area and would love them to leave room for the guys who still like to stand.

Maybe they could affectionately dub the standing area as "The goat pasture".
