Congrats to Coach Hopkins. He was hired to be the HC at Preble Shawnee. We are going to miss him, but enjoy the butt kicking we will give him at the end of the season. Also heard the offense is going to be different this year. New formations and scheme.

Are they going away from such a pass oriented offense?

Not real sure...I have heard that the new line is just a bull dozing line. We may see more run. I am sure they will bring Ritter along slow. He will be a junior and I am sure he can handle it, but not too much experience returning on the out side. Halderman is the only one with real experience so I guess the passing game will have to grow with the season.

Replacement for Hopkins

I heard Randy McKinny will replace Coach Hopkins untill his daughter can take over.

Enough......lets just talk football on here. I know I have dropped a few on the board and the McKinney's but lets get back to what is really important in Eaton, FOOTBALL

They did get some reps during the season but I wouldn't exactly call it returning experience. I just think the running game will be there before the passing game is. You have a quarterback who has no varsity experience and add to that the receiving corp is vastly inexperienced(except for Minnie Me) and I see Slemker and company being the first call. IMHO

I see the Eagles being a little more run/pass balanced this season. That is not knocking on Billy as a QB or any of the possible WRs. It's just that there is a lot of RB options they can go with. I can see a possible 1-2 punch in the backfield depending on who steps it up and earns it this summer.

I know Slemker has the inside shot but who else is in the running?

Frogbear59 I agree. It is definitly going to be more balanced. I do feel that Billy will become a very good QB, it just will take a little time and patience. There are two or three guys who can carry the load. Slemker seems to be the choice but I can see a couple of others stepping in and giving a good change of pace. It should be a real exciting year for Eaton football

Leaker is too athletic to keep off the field and should be pushing for time at RB. There are some other boys but their names escape my mind at this point after a long week.

I forgot about Leaker.... that would make a great tandem in the backfield. Go to a more Pro set...I could see that. And again the booster post was funny as hekk

Younger players

Do you see any freshman getting Vars. playing time. Damon Willard has great speed as well.

Freshman PT

Very rare for Neanon to start a freshman, but it is possible. Current DB Andrew Holderman started as a freshman, but it is rare.A player has to really stand out to do so.

Holderman got some reps as a freshman, didn't start until he was a sophomore. The only real freshmen starters for Eaton were Big Cat and Christello that I can think of and Williams got his after an injury.

Is that the little running back for the eight grade last year? Will be a nice player, but will get most of this reps on the freshman team.

Yes that would be him. From what i am told Willard is just as fast or maybe even faster than what Cauldill was when he was an 8Th grader.

That is some great speed....Caudill had to wait his turn too. When he was a freshman there was Nobel and then Slemker. Caudill really didn't get his real shot until his junior year. Willard will get his chance, may have to be a defensive player to start early. Will need to learn to tackle, was thinking he was one who trys to hit real hard and hopes they fall down. Not sure though, I have slept since then

Heard that they are taking either resumes or bids right now and that the stadium will be built. This coming from a pretty high source. The money is coming for the 1st phase.

What does the first phase include? Does that mean that the track will be put in at a later date? Any timeline for when construction will begin?

The track will go in at the same time. That was a definite. Coach Neanen was not getting something new and not Randy. The Board did not even consider this. They would rather muddle through up at East and really make a mess of things then to do the right thing. From my "source" phase one will happen

Sorry if I missed it, but what does phase 1 include? The stadium?

Phase one is the stadium and all facilities required by Grandview. The new health center is a must. The baseball and softball fields and soccer practice is in phase 2.

I know there are several "traditonalists" in Eaton that don't want to see the football field moved from Park Ave, but I know every time I drive past the HS I can envision the new stadium/healthplex and I get excited.

I am going to tell you that my father admits we need something else but just doesn't want to see it moved. I also feel that way. I have been going to that field since I was 5 and really can't envision the Eagles playing anywhere else. However, we also know we need this new stadium which will help the AD with more funds. I went by today and was looking over the vacant field and wondering what the new home would look like. I know I make a lot out of the "Ghosts", but the old field holds lots of memories. By the way, Freedom 1st has got candy bars all over town and the proceeds go to the Athletic Fund. Buy some bars, and if you see a business owner who doesn't have them, tell them to put some in....its for a good cause

Hopefully if this is done right, the new facility can be a money maker for the whole county by bringing in outside activities such as potential playoff games (football and soccer), band competitions, and such. Tradition or not, the only thing the other money the old field could bring in is maybe a "Cowpie Bingo" game.

All kidding aside, the old field has an awesome history that will never be forgotten. Now let's make some new history........
