Really? That's your beef with him? Somebody who was getting 30 plus touches a game on offense and playing middle linebacker?

You don't appear to be disputing what I've described. As you have pointed out, his failure to secure D-I offers really doesn't make a lot of sense based simply on his ability. Sure, he 's a little short, but that doesn't explain it. Perhaps you have an alternative explanation?
Knock on Sanders was lack of size and questions about his speed. He was demonstrative and emotional at times on the sideline and field (Ashland playoff game comes to mind), but lots of big-time recruits fall in that boat. I think the speed doubts played the biggest factor in his non-recruitment.
Seems to me that OL and LB are positions that are generally fully reloaded each year with Seniors with occasional exceptions so it's 'like a box of chocolates' you never know..... Large OL exception this year is Ohio St recruit Byrne with two more years at Ignatius. I look at the OL roster and I see legacy names like a Bigach at 6'6 and a Blake at 275. Guys with PT include Franko and Cray who were 240 last year. An 'exception' at LB should be Berger from the undefeated JV's.
On paper and from 1500 miles away this team looks good.

Cray and Franko were year long starters(Jim Byrne started last 4)not sure where you have been...
I'd expect bigach at the other tackle and then center I won't even guess on...btw who is the Blake legacy referring to?
When you are a starter you get a lot of PT and who was the TE last year?
Why not just say starter then. When saying a player got PT it just sounds as if he were in the mix whereas a starter can be recognized as a bonefied veteran. The two terms aren't interchangeable in my opinion. And who was the TE Last year? C'mon Catmando can't recall the name of our wonderful all Ohio tOSU recruit Blake Thomas? First name being Blake giving no relation to the previously mentioned Peter Blake. Being away from NEO in Boca Raton really takes its toll but hey go take a nice walk on the beach for us up here that can't.
Viking......I am so happy NO ONE is responding to your "agitating posts".
Mooney is a great program, but they are D3/D4. They are playing the BEST D1 program in Ohio.
The results, should be obvious come week #1 in Cleveland Browns Stadium. It's a tremendous honor "either way"/ "win or lose", for Mooney...to have the respect of the Ohio HS football community, which gave them the chance to participate in such a great "Charity Game".
Mooney will be working hard however. They will play hard, and represent well.
Heard Ignatius will be nationally ranked in the TOP 25 next year. Well earned.
My only wish is that the USA TODAY....Sports section would have a TOP 25.....for each school size.....nationally.......D1/D2/D3....etc......
That would be interesting.....Not just identifying BIG SCHOOLS with 4,000 + students like in Texas...California and Florida.....
Mooney, IMHO.....would be a TOP 25 ......D3/D4.....nationally ranked school every year!
As would Coldwater, SVSM, Benedictine, St.Henry, Newark Catholic, Delphos St.Johns, Steubenville, Columbus DeSales....etc...
I'd venture to guess that Ohio's best D3 thru D-6 sized schools would kick the "shi--tt" out of most Texas, Florida and California schools of similar size.

That is something I have always wondered about and I totally agree.

Good post Fly. Not that Mooney needs any validation of their great program, but to be asked to play in this game is another feather in Mooney's cap.

But unfortunately, we will never know.
Having gone to a few Herbstreit's and other early season Showcase sort of games, I always thought it would be interesting to see Ohio's best small school teams play a selection of out of state sides of similar enrollment. It would be great to see Coldwater, Mooney, DSJ, Steubenville and a few others take part in something like this. You always hear about these giant out-of-state schools, enrollment 4,000+, and their programs, but you hear very little if anything at all about smaller schools and their successes.
Lots of football activity down at Ignatius these days. Check Eddie Dwyer's columns for lots of information. Interesting member of the "Camp of Champions" camp staff...former Ignatius/Harvard QB great Jim Kubacki, current president of St. Ed's.

Teams like Coldwater and Steubenville would get stomped.
JJHuddle reports that St. Eds is the team to beat in R 1 this year. Slap in the face to the cats if you want my opinion. Decent review of whats going on in all of Division 1.
While St. Ed's does not have as much talent as they had last year, well...almost no one has ever had as much talent as St. Ed's had last year. What's the count up to at this point...13, 14 D-I players on that team? I think the Ed's coaching staff is fortunate that they were coming off a state title season.
The Eagles will be very talented on the perimeter on both sides of the ball. They will have two athletes that will likely be the fastest players on the field in every game they play. I would expect offensive sets that look a lot like Glenville's better teams...try to isolate that super-fast guy one on one with a defender on the edge. If they can find linemen (and they usually have them around), they should be very talented again.
My guess is that the Huddle looked at some sort of "top 100 prospects" list and saw more Ed's guys on it than Ignatius guys and predicted based on that.

Last years graduating class saw ten guys sign with D1 schools (including both FBS and FCS). There are three returning starters who currently have D1 offers. Meanwhile, when it's all said and done, Ignatius will have had at least 9 guys on last years state championship team sign with D1 schools.

And yet, if you look at the six "Top Games": three involve Ignatius (vs Glenville, Mentor, and St. Ed); two involve Glenville, two involve Solon; two involve Mentor; and only one involves St. Edward. They are the team to beat but not the team to watch? lol. Regardless, I think it will be a strong region this year.
*I also understand that the "Top Games" involve regional match-ups only, so St. Edward is at a disadvantage because they play many non-Region 1 teams.
