The PD is reporting late this afternoon that Mike Svetina has decided not to accept a Miami Ohio football scholarship and is going to accept one instead from Illinois.
eh, should have went to Miami, and followed in the footsteps of Woody Hayes et al. the weather is a lot better there too.
I use poor grammar on purpose sometimes. do you mean "should have went?"
for no particular reason. Might have been a subconscious expression that the education ( in my opinion ) might be superior at Miami U.
By the way, he switched from Miami (OH), not FL, to the Illini......the weather in Oxford, Ohio and Champagn, Ill is quite the same, lousy. It's
a quality/competition upgrade. He'll be playing in front of 80,000 instead of 14,000.

Oh, yeah certainly.. The wind is a lot worse in Champaign, but I understand the opportunity difference Big 10 v MAC
if 80,000 go to Illini games that is almost 4 X the entire population of Oxford Ohio.
There is an outside chance of getting to the big game with the Illini right, the BCS bowl.

It's a personal preference. some people choose to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond some people want to go for the whole enchilada.
Either way he comes out a winner,.all other things being equal.
Massillon and St. Ignatius had a very exciting series; the Tigers brought it every year. However, the contract and the series ended, just as they did with McKinley and Boardman.

There were few really good games from our perspective. .
The last time out, that kind of soured Massillon on the thing.
Being down by 35 at the end of the first quarter can do that.
We don't want to start the "cream puff harbin cow " v "beat the best to be the best" scheduling strategy debate.....

again...... <groan>
IMO, Massillon is NOT ducking Ignatius. The Tigers played us for a number of years and there is nothing wrong with not renewing the contract. I enjoyed the games but understand Massillon wanting to play other teams.
Still enjoying the 11th D1 title. It was a great season and I'm excited for 2012.

I understand as well...it wasn't working for them other than providing a pretty good payday. The potential big Harbin bonanza for them only happened once and they stuck with it for a long time.

heheh you guys are being so nice and diplomatic.
classy.
you should have seen them on massproud saying how I was on my knees giving oral pleasure to Kyle because of my complimentary assessment at the end of the year.
What do the Iggy fans think about playing Mooney? The Cards are loaded!
Speaking only for myself, I am grateful when any team has scheduled Ignatius. Better a strong Ohio team than importing a weak DC public. As far as Mooney being loaded, all I can say is that a year ago at this time everyone was talking about how loaded Ed's was going to be and Ignatius fans were just hoping that the Cats could make the playoffs after the previous year's debacle. No one was saying that the Cats were in any sense loaded. And look how things turned out. It's true that Ignatius has, compared with previous years, a lot coming back this season, but that doesn't guarantee anything.
I have a Mooney friend who was involved in the program about 10 years back who feels this is a good match-up for the Cardinals...returning talent, combined with their physical style. He thinks Mooney is comparatively better early on because they will not be beaten up, injured, because they get a fair amount of that due to the way they play.
Things look good next year for Ignatius, but they have to replace a great group of linebackers and a very good high school quarterback. There appears to be talent just off stage at those positions, but you never know. If you believe the Kyle hype (and I do), your chances vs. Ignatius are better early, before they get things sorted out and build over time.
Anybody know what the current schedule looks like for 2012? What are the current open dates? I know Mooney and De LaSalle from Detroit were added, any chatter on who else might be in play?
Be nice if a Senate team is in along with a regional player from Columbus/Dayton/Toledo.

I do agree that it is better to get Ignatius early and I hope he is correct but I feel Mooney has little chance in this game. They have a lot of kids back bur replacing Quinn and Farragher will be very difficult. I don't know how many drives those two extended for Mooney last year with great individual plays. I just think they are really going to miss those two as well as Trgovich against Ignatius.
