Happy New Year! Good Luck niles. Have to keep us posted on how the off season develops. I really enjoyed watching Shaner city teams over the years hope he (and therefore Niles) does well. The paper already stated that Shaner brought his D coordinator with him, I found out the other coach from East was the Oline/Dline coach. Always thought East/Rayen's line play was good...much better than your average inner city school...If the guy was able to get those kids playing hard I am sure he will do the same with Niles. Good luck in 2012.

Question for you traiblazer! What I don't understand is WHY! I mean WHY is the other segment so against Parry? If things did not work out for West why anyone other than Parry?
I really don't understand!
It's not that they were against Parry as much as they were against the other segment getting their way. If the other segment was backing Nick Saban, they would have kicked and screamed and cried like babies, making sure Saban didn't get the job.
All I know for a FACT was that the committee making this hire was supposedly meeting on Friday afternoon at 1 to make their final decision on the coach. Until that point they swore that they had no outside influence and they swore they were still 100 % undecided. But three hours before that meeting took place A board member bragged that he knew Shaner had the job, that the job was Parry's but arms were twisted and on Thursday night the big boys declared in no uncertain terms it would go to Shaner. This board member was bragging about it and almost rubbing it in peoples faces.
btw have you noticed who Shaner is constantly hanging with these days?????????????????????????????????????????????
Da Club was just buzzzzing about Niles football the last couple of days.
General consensus -- RichieRich and his pals are as snake-like and manipulative as any group ever associated with Niles. And this is coming from a clan and mainly a family who has done more to divide Niles than any single family in recent memory.
Just too comical.
The biggest talk amongst The Elite was about the Rein Committee and about how they were gathering for meetings with booster club presidents, the mayor and even someone from the Cafaro family. The Elite feel left out of the loop and therefore are going to demand a complete showing of the books from the Rein Committee.
Even the two sets of slivering snakes are having at it these days. You just can't make this stuff up if you tried.
Instead of worrying about who wasn't at the meeting, maybe we should spend some time applauding those who were. For starters, they aren't gutless cowards trying to stir up controversy on the computer. Nor would I worry about the noble family from Olive Hill Kentucky. I hope the Rein Committee steam rolls past these politcal morons and continues to try and bring something good to the young people of Niles. If the mayor was there then I say that is a step in the right direction. Bravo.
Hey is it just me or are there a lot of similarities to reading this thread and a Soprano's episode? All back door who is going to get whacked next talk from "Da Club" aside has there been any word on how things are going with the off season program? Was curious about all the schools with new coaches to see if they where off to a strong start. It is supposed to be about the kids and the sport after all.
Hey Den. I wasn't there and didn't know about it either. I am sure you are right. All the people at the meeting are hatching a plan to gain power in Niles. Pathetic. I have no idea who all was there or why they were invited but it sounds to me like you are sad you weren't on the list. Poor baby.
Hello niles alum and supporters. I'm new here but can definitely give you great insight on the upcoming dragons and years to come. I graduated a few years ago in the midst of all this politics crap and coaching changes. I also attended the football combine/camp at browns training facilities on Sunday and watched the skilled positions at 9 and lineman at 12. Not everyone on the team attended but a list of those who did : qb-Stefan Yuhas, qb- Kyle Paden, wr- Chris parry (pat fortunes half brother for those of you that remember him) wr- Chris Hillier, wr-jimmy Mullen, Rb-Tommy Duffy, Rb-Jake forward, Rb-Marc Kramer, Brent Spencer- although I did not see him, rb-Aaron Watson. Lineman-- tj brown, frank saban, Josh krok, Jeff leeper. Here's a link to the 40 times and broad jump and vertical jump and results of all that good stuff from the browns showcase. http://prod.static.browns.clubs.nfl....se-results.pdf
With that being said I watched the qbs the majority of the time after they did the running and jumping drills. And I am very impressed. We have 2 good qbs. Not great but good. Stefan yuhas is a year older and seems to be maybe a little more of a leader although he is quiet but Kyle Paden has such a natural throwing arm I was very impressed. It seems effortless when it comes out of his hand and if you know anything about football you knows that's big for a qb. Stefan yuhas threw just as well I'd have to say maybe a little less consistent but overall good. The problem with Stefan is he's not a natural thrower just an overall good athlete. Both of there 40 times were about even I believe padens was faster at 5.1 and Stefan 5.2 I believe. Which were both fastest of all dragons there. Out of 31 qbs there on Sunday both qbs were in the top half. The coach was also there and I was impressed with him too. A real hands on guy. I am friends with padens older brother and he said that the coach even texts Kyle on a weekly basis talking football and workouts and stuff so I think that's a good sign.
I don't want to be looked at as bias because I'm friends with padens older brother but I call it as I see it. And I have been to many of the sophomores class games since they were in 8th grade and he has improved yearly to great extents. Not to mentionhe never has had a line. Ever. Again nothing taken away from yuhas I would have no problem with him as my qb he is a tough tough athlete who will be working with the coach longer because he left the basketball team early on in the season. Not sure if he plays baseball or not so Paden may catch up to him once he gets done with basketball himself. I believe a nice competitive offseason with help niles mold these guys both to be ready for next season. If I'm the coach and both are about even right now in skills, I would probably go with Paden as my starter, for one, he will have experience that will greatly help niles the following yeAr, and we can use Stefan yuhas on defense the whole game because we all know his great defensive abilities
As for the receivers and running backs, Jimmy Mullen is 6'4" !!! But...he unfortunately can't catch a cold so we need major improvements if he's ever going to be a factor At wr. Chris parry is a tough competitor. Hillier is a decent wr. Duffy looked out of shape and the others I did not see much of. The lineman all look very above average. The kid that transferred from niles to Harding is now back to niles and makes saban look tiny. He's. 6'7" I believe and the whole line could be great with good coaching and fundamentals. It's amazing how bad they were last year with such god given talent. If anyone has any questions about this upcoming dragon team please ask I'll do my best to find out. You older folks know the politics I know the locker rooms. And since I have numerous friends who have brothers on the teams and coaches in the program. I will do best to keep you guys/girls updated.
All in all 6-4 looks about right 7-3 is possible I believe. Our biggest need is an explosive wide receiver. There was a sophomore last year that played w.r. Named Marcus hill who is around 5'10 and was very explosive but of course he's not playing this year because of how pathetic Steve mientkiewicz jv coaching was.
Thanks for posting all of the information. I check yappi and jjhuddle everyday but Red Dragons talk has slowed over the last few weeks. Actually jjhuddle is pretty much dead. I had no idea the kid that transfered to Harding was back at Niles. The good thing is that there is plenty of time left to get the players into shape.
Yes I've noticed. When I played, jjhuddle was always the place for niles football talk. Get excited people! Were going to have A very interesting and exciting year I can feel it in my bones. But yes Josh krok came back to niles and he's 6'8 304lbs along with saban at 6'5 309 those are going to be two great tackles along with a very strong center in Leeper and another big guard at 6'2 with tj brown. Not sure who will be the other guard. Something to worry about though is the whole line except krok will be graduating next year and there aren't many good line prospects coming up. At least the jv team last year sure didn't
Boy Town I see it a bit diferently but who knows. I think Paden is a natural tight end, while kramer needs to solidify the line at guard. In this offense Yuhas and probably Cicero (he played qb at JFK) are best suited behind center. The QB will run for more yards than they throw, although I remember seeing Yuhas as a JV qb and wondering why he wasn't playing in front of Bailey. As for Paden, his feet always seemed more fitting for a TE. Heck, I liked him at outside backer when he got a chance, but all those slots seem filled. Right now this team may be a bit too senior laden. By that I mean where are any juniors and sophomores gonna play? If Wiery and Ifft come play, and help in the defensive backfield how many seniors will start. Almost too many.
hey to each thier own, but i would have totally agreed with you before i seen the browns showcase. I was impressed myself because paden never was a spectacular athlete he just was a gamer, but he's grown a lot in the last year and he was very impressive. im excited to see how it plays out i wish it was here already! but as for ifft and wiery, that would be great if they would play. rumor has it they are, but you never know. I don't want to get my hopes up yet..paden at t.e. will never happen unless he gets a lot stronger. his older brother was actually a darn good t.e. for our team he didnt play his senior year because of coach johnson (long story) but talking with his brother over the years he's always said thats somethig he's lacked is leg strenghth. outside backer yeah he was ok last year. good instincts but as you said a lot of seniors coming back. which is a good thing though! as for cicero, he's never been the same since he left for jfk. he hit puberty a lot earlier than most kids so looked like a standout athlete but last year he got a concussion and just hasnt looked anything like i would have thought the athlete he could be. who knows
But I guarantee the qb position comes down to yuhas and paden. Pkus we need some athletes at WR that can actually catch. I see cicero as Rb/wr. maye paden and yuhas will split time with yuhas being as valuable as he is on defense. not always a fan of that system but it could work both have different attributes. Like i said in my first post, yuhas is a good thrower not as accurate and really throws it will all parts of his body. Paden throws it more accurate with more of just a sling shot type throw it just whips out of his hand with looks like little to no effort. however this was not in full pads so take it for what it is. Plus, the offense were more likely to run is a heavy run first offense which probabaly would be more suited for yuhas. But then you got to look at the lineman. Our line is big and strong, but are better pass protectors then run blockers. They aren't etremely physical (even krok) so pass protecting the qb might have a lot of time at least more than each are ever use to. so there are a whole lot of things you got to look at. thats where coaching is going to come in and make it interesting.
Just talked to some more connects and Cicero isn't going to play qb for sure. He actually flip flops every week whether he's going to even play so lets hope he does. He was Rb last year for jv so I'm sure if he does that's what he'll be behind Duffy. Like I said though he got a concussion last year and never really seemed the same after that. So hopefully he has no lingering affects if he plays
Stef is the qb period. i am friends with Kyle, but he cannot run and throws nowhere like Stefan. i bet if u asked the receivers from last year most wanted stef over zack. but yeager did not. we r wring hard to surprise those tat doubt. as fr wiery and ift, they werent really players before, sowho cares. to the person saying we have too many seniors, no way. the class beneath us just is below avg. they will need alot of help fromclass behind them. they really are not a stand alone class.
Da Club is going bonkers over what they see as the top secret meetings over the stadium. Old timers at da club are pisssssssed beyond belief that "you need to know a secret handshake a secret phrase and the right people" to be part of meetings taking place at school facilities. They are ready to raise all sorts of hell because of this and they pledge "to never step foot in the stadium if the field is named for a businessman"
What the heck is going on?
Who is involved in these meetings? I know todays was held at the middle school. I guess that has to mean that at least a couple of school administrators are involved. Are sunshine laws being broken like some of the oldies are suggesting?
we maxed out this week. some of the main players. kramer, 295, duffy, 290, saban 340, yuhas 225, watson 225, spencer 200, not sure about smitty, leep, or krok. everybody is wrking hard.
I hope the amount of players in the weight room is up there. Bench press numbers aren't as important as some other lifts. Having a big bench number certainly isn't going to hurt anything though.
All of the starting positions will be won on the practice field this summer and spring. All good players will play, it's a matter of when and where.
Ifft and wiery will definitely make a difference if they do play both are probable starters dont kid yourself. and as for yuhas better than bailey i dont know they are about even and since yuhas is important on defense it makes sense to play bailey. but yuhas is not a pure qb is tough minded defensive player. but no doubt paden isnt as quick as yuhas but he definitley has gotten much faster hes nearly 6'2" and has developed and gotten bigger very quickly in the last year. it all depends on the offense niles wants to run. If they want to rely on the line and just be run first and be a little one dimensional or if they want to be balanced or not. but ifft and wiery will add a whole lot of athleticism to a position that dearly needs it this year at WR. yuhas is a tough kid and anyone would be happy with him leading thier team but dont count paden out he is a serious gamer and finds ways to get it done. I cant wait to see these guys push each other this summer and make each other. DragonsD if you are on the team you need embrace the competetion and push to make your team a real team no matter who starts or plays. rally around those guys and give it all you got. no pressure or nothing but the whole city is thirsting for a competitive season. I think you will be very surprise by the qb competition thats gonna go under way this summer. Paden was throwing with any qb at the browns showcase. and definitley had a smoother delivery than stefen. regardless, stay hitting the weight room and bring this team together make em believe in each other, the pieces are in place for an exciting year.
Stef is the qb period. i am friends with Kyle, but he cannot run and throws nowhere like Stefan. i bet if u asked the receivers from last year most wanted stef over zack. but yeager did not. we r wring hard to surprise those tat doubt. as fr wiery and ift, they werent really players before, sowho cares. to the person saying we have too many seniors, no way. the class beneath us just is below avg. they will need alot of help fromclass behind them. they really are not a stand alone class.
what the hell? i see the Niles education system is doing a fantastic job teaching these kids basic english
