With the winter High School league one week away at SWOBAT its a good opportunity to catch some of the area teams in early action.
Who has the most coming back in the FAVC?
What teams do you think have an edge to win their division?
Any coaching changes or transfers/new students?
Edgewood brings back pitching and should be solid again. Is Ross able to bounce back and take back the division? Can Northwest and Harrison improve in 2012?
Glen Este graduated a lot do they have any up and comers?
Turpin and Loveland will be the teams to beat this year, both have good returning players with good pitching.
Glen Este will be young but should be ok. They have The miller girl returning as there #1 pitcher, they also have a big freshman left hander that trows hard coming in, not sure of her name. They have the Gregory girl back along with a couple other young players that are pretty good.
Not sure about Milford?
My bet is on Loveland!
She is a good SS, not sure about her bat? Loveland has N. Hayes and GE has K Gregory both of these players have great bats and really good defense. Loveland also has H Shoemake, she might be the best hitter in the FAVC. I think Loveland and GE have more travel ball players then the other teams. Turpin will be tough also.

Her game is speed...600 OB% .400+ BA at a 18U Gold level last year and .500 in HS play. Slap and Bunt... No matter how many you have on the infield you will still have trouble getting her out. 2.6 H-1ST under 11 sec Home to home... Naturally the team needs more than one player but she can put pressure on the D on the base pads allowing her team mates more opportunities. I do not know much more about the rest of the team but others have said Turpin is pretty solid in pitching, catching and fielding...

Really no love for Milford? Many returning position players, Kahla Simmons and Kristen Wooten will be healthy.
Edgewood is loaded as only two players graduated. They return two very good pitchers and a lot of offense. Cougars won the FAVC West last season and should repeat this year.

I agree, should be pretty good! Hard to replace the player of the year in the division though! IMO that WILL matter come post season! I ll be routing for them, they ll be well coached! BTW,you can all thank Ross for making the division better!
I am new at this high school ball, but looking at all the rosters that graduated players last year. It is hard to say just who will come out on top.
My dd is a freshman and I just hope for a productive season from her first year. It will be interesting having only lost three players from last years team. We are gettting a player back off the injury list and have a couple of young freshman who should make waves. Although, having the experience at the pitching position will make Edgewood the team to beat.
Good Luck to All!!!!
Outside again today. Great way to start a season, first week and a day outside. Edgewood Cougars looking good in practice.
Good! You follks are in dire need of something possitive in cougarland! Maybe softball will will be just that! Do all you can to keep Coach Asher around, that seems to be a big challenge for your administration! Good Luck Again!
Talawanda has their pitcher of the year back. If they can just get another hitter or 2 things would be very interesting.
Caitlyn Calhoun! Such a great kid. Talawanda will win quite a few solely on her but when it comes tournament time, I don't see them making a major push. I thought Edgewood would last year but then they lost in the first round.

Hate to bust the bubble in Oxford guys! She is a great kid and oh yeh she can pitch to,but the worse thing that could ve happen to her, did! With the mound change the preivious year the ball will be into play more, and the Braves for the last 10 years or so has been short changed on the skipper position! Coaching always prevails in the end! Shame though because they ve had some good talent pass through there and not get to play in post season but one year if I remember right? The administration has to ask thereselves, why cant we play better than 500 every year when we have the #1 pitcher in the league ,in a pitcher dominating sport???Hope this year you prove me wrong Braves!Good Luck! JMO!
I was only referring to the league. I know you need more than just a pitcher. As far as the pitching distance goes, did not seem to be a problem for her over the fall playing for Miami Valley Express against DII and DIII colleges (and winning). They did go 3 games into the tourney her freshman year, lost to Valley View in sectional championship.

Has the NCAA changed this rule? In the past travel teams could only scrimmage NAIA teams.
I've always had questions about League MVP's. Last year the FAVC West Pitching MVP allowed 54 runs in the league. The league champion pitchers gave up 12. Makes you want to say HMMMMM!

You evidently did not understand what I said ,let me simplify,I never once knocked the pitcher ,as a matter of fact I praised her! The VV game years ago was a great game for the braves even though they lost 1-0 ,defense wins my friend! Thats my point ,coaching prevails !Her ball will move more with the distance and thats a good thing,But with the smallball teams in the league and great contact hitters ,the ball will be put into play, thats why I believe they ll have trouble with the close ones! Unfortuate for her because she will have them close!Good Luck Braves! AGAIN JMO!

Correct no rule changes.... They must not know what division the team they played was in or played one of the NAIA satellite programs for the D1 school...
