Ursuline 2012

Well new coach in place:what are the prospects for next year? I say another run at the ring with the sting of a subpar year to make the boys hungry! GO IRISH!

Schedule appears to be similar to last year other than the East game at YSU. Zanesville is a road game once again.

Ursuline should be improved, but lose a small, yet solid, senior class. Expect many sophomores and juniors to play significant minutes for the Irish with a few freshmen possibly getting some playing time in as well. As we've discussed thoroughly, the incoming freshmen class is going to be very very special!

heard the upcoming junior class is pretty weak but the senior class is small but good....I have also heard the upcoming freshmen class could be very special, if all those kids still go to Ursuline

The location of that East game should still be TBD. Youngstown named former Irish coach Jim Vivo to lead East next year.

I believe we have three returning Lineman, correct me if I am wrong. I think we should have a solid year. Liking the prospects of another title run!

Here is the 2012 Ursuline Irish Varsity Football Schedule as of now. I know the AD Sean Durkin has contacted over 30 teams with and many of them that had advertised that they had an open date and he got a flat out NO. They will be happy if they can at least fill up week 6 and end up with week 8 open which will allow 2 weeks to prepare for Mooney

August 23 -Youngstown East (H)
August 31 - Cleveland East Tech (H)
September 7 - Mentor Lake Catholic (H)
September 14 - @ Zanesville
September 21 - @ Saint Edward (Lakewood)
September 28 - Open
October 5- @ Steubenville
October 12 - OPEN
October 19 - Mooney (H)
October 26 - @ Saint Vincent-Saint Mary (Akron)

2012 prediction

based on what I see this looks like a 3-5 record. They will another game to get into the playoffs. I would suggest paying a city school (Cleveland, Toledo, Cincy, Columbus) to fill the open week to get to 9 games. The problem they will face is that so many teams are in conference play during those other weeks. They may want to try and get an independent such as Gilmour, Conneaut, Edgewood or Western Reserve Academy in order to get a 9th game. They will likely have to pay for these games also. As I see it, 3-5 will not get them in. 4-5 will be very close depending on who it is......

Our four wins from this past season are already on this schedule. I can't see why we can't win those four again. I think Youngstown East should be a good, low scoring game with their solid defense to open the season, but I would expect us to win that one. Mentor Lake Catholic should be winnable. We lost to them 9-0 on the road. That one will be at Stambaugh.

I think we will be just fine with Coach Kempe at the helm. Furthermore, Chris Durkin will have a year of maturity under his belt at QB and should be one hell of a QB by the time he is out of UHS.

Go Irish!

I am not counting any chickens, but the tide is turning in Youngstown. A 4-6 Ursuline team beat a State Championship Mooney team.

Go Irish!

Lake Catholic was young and highly talented last year, they will be very tough next year. I would not count that as a win. Youngstown East may be the difference next year for you to get into the playoffs as they will win at least 4-5 games. Those second level points should be plenty. I also would not count on Mooney as a sure win. You have had their number recently but you know they are bringing back a tough group. Also SVSM is again loaded. My point is it would be wise to get another probable win against a city school because that could make or break the playoffs. With all of that being said, I think it is highly unrealistic to expect Ursuline to miss the playoffs two years in a row...

That they did but after seeing the division 5 championship game and seeing Ursuline live twice, I do not think they would have gotten out of region 17 this past year. This point is clearly arguable but that Kirtland team was a complete beast this past year and I think they would have still won the whole deal......

Where in my post did I mention Division 5 or Region 17 or Kirtland or the playoffs!?

All I was stating to the Mooney people that do not like the fact we've beaten them 3 of the past 4 years is the fact that a mediocre, judging by our record, Ursuline team beat a Mooney team that won a State Championship. Never in the history of this rivalry has anything like this ever happened.

Hope your right neirish...still hearing Durkin could be headed to Girard. Hope that's incorrect.

Heard from Sean Durkin that the Irish might be playing Chaminade from Hollywood, FL coached by ex-graduate Tim Tyrell. that would be great game if it could happen.

Don't believe the Girard or Boardman posters... Durkin will be with Ursuline for his junior and senior seasons!

Thigpen will be a senior. Curry, much to your schools liking , is graduating.

The upcoming Junior class has some great athletes like C.Durkin #13, T.Berry #21, S.Williams #50, and others. All three of those players were starters last year

Honestly, I would personally trade any loss during the regular season (be it Ursuline or any one else) for another run to a state championship (9th)! Hate to lose any game--even more when it's to Ursuline, but honestly that game doesn't have nearly as much clout as it use to because of the rest of the Cardinals schedule IMHO----sorry that beating Mooney in the regular season was your high point last year....

Agree 100%, and anybody that disagrees with this is nuts. I'm sure Ursuline if they had to chose, would rather lose to Mooney and win state. Plus to me, Boardman always seemed like a much bigger game, no disrespect to this great rivalry but it just seems that way.

So now you are trying to diminish our 3 of 4 against you because it doesn't mean as much anymore? Sure after pummeling us for a few decades I guess you would come to expect to beat us now. And please, the war between students and alumni of each school is still enormous as we see during the game and weeks in advance on sites like these.

After that Mooney game I saw Springfield won and I said oh well, there goes our shot at the playoffs, but at least we can say for the third time in four years that we beat Mooney. And remember, we had TWO WINS going into that game !

Like I've been saying, Wolford said it best, the tide is turning in Youngstown! This is going to be an Ursuline football town.
