Take last years varsity players who saw the field add the 7 sophs who were on team in preseason before being sent down to JV add 7 frosh brought up last year for postseason apply Specht rule get 22 best on field (Glines needs to be out there somewhere), use noggin - talent at WR need throwing QB (Mooney or Tensing), add eye of Newt, bake at 325F for 6 months serve hot in August.

If you're on offense, and your name is not Kilgore or Milligan, you are simply a nice kid that wasn't good enough to play D.
Don't be suprised if you see a few a these nice kids starting on defense.

So will St. X be better next season or not? Sounds like they have some great young kids. I do think you should have beaten Pick. Central last season to advance.

They will be competitive but not sure if they'll be better or not. Making the state semi-finals was pretty good w/o winning the state title. St. X will have a young team next year so I'm not expecting them to win state but GCL might be in order.

Defense again will be very stingy, very athletic and very quick. Offense will have outstanding skill players, speed at running back, outstanding receivers. They have talent at QB and it will be fun to see who steps up and grabs that spot. The only thing left then is the Oline... that story has yet to be written...but I have faith in our strength coaches and the upperclassmen to step up

The O-Line and offense overall has just been vastly improved with the return of athletic director John Sullivan to the coaching staff as offensive line coach!

So Sully is AD and coach the offensive line? Expect big improvements if this is true. I didn't know he did the double-duty.

I hear that they brought up 6 more current freshman bringing the total to 13 now lifting weights with varsity. Huber and J. Hilliard are two that have moved up. Cj younger brother who plays LB. They are saying he is pretty good also and is 6'1 190Lbs. What did they feed that freshman group they are huge. Going to be a exciting 2 years

Sully is still AD. StX has an excellent assistant AD. Sully's passion and fire will be welcome on that side of the ball. Cant wait to hear his booming voice and see the inspired response from the FOOLS and skill guys.

He was the OL coach when I was playing so it's been in the last 20 years. I'm pretty sure he was still coaching in the late 90s when St. X went on their 6 year playoff run with 4 GCL titles and 2 state appearances.

Major ReLoad-ing phase.
Combination strong frosh class and relatively weak sophomore class.
Varsity team expecting 150+ players (largest yet) with the usual 30 to 40 capable of Bomber football.

Well, I am excited about all the talent next year but we were all excited about 2008 and you know what happened that season. First Vidal and Cummings go down, then Massa, then Male, then Early and that's just on offense. Defense was missing 3-4 starters as well due to grades and injury. Although St. X had the potential to win state in 2011 (and could have), they were not consisent enough to pull it off. I've blown my own horn plenty about how good the Bombers look on paper. It's on the field when they'll get me real excited.

You can only control what you can control (injuries, grades etc).... gotta move forward. I am glad you are not happy with a state semi-final appearance when we had the talent to go all the way. The bar has been raised..that's a good thing. We'll see how they come together as a team...they will have a wealth of talented athletes.

Oooooookay! I am happy they made the semi-finals. That was awesome! I may have come across as not satisfied, but one game they'd be on fire and the next they'd lose to a team that's 4-4. I'm just saying they weren't consistent enough to win state but I am happy with the state semi-finals. The 2012 team IS NOT the 2011 team so we can't compare the two because we don't know what all of them are capable of (many, yes...all, no). I am excited to see what they can do, but until they do it, I'm not going to get all excited and have my bubble burst and then eat a big, healthy bowl of crow.

Is there any information on who the possible opponent is for the Crosstown Showdown? Then I also heard St. X IS NOT playing in the Herbie but have decided to play Indy Cathedral again.

IMHO the 3 Keys for 2012 will be senior leadership, the QB position and the line of scrimmage.

The senior co-captains of 2011 (Albright, Gerbus, Cook and Hundley) who were unanimously elected (rarity) provided exceptional senior leadership. This could be an area of concern for 2012

The QB position for StX, as has been widely discussed on Yappi, has been the achilles heel in Specht's tenure. Once again this could be an area of concern for 2012. Hopefully one of the 6 candidates will separate himself early and have command of the offense heading into week 1.

Finally StX is going to be extremely young in the trenches and the ability of the underclassmen to develop and mature to control the line of scrimmage will be crucial. The return of John Sullivan to the staff as offensive line coach is a huge boost. The young talent is there and I expect Sully and defensive line coach Mike Wiles to be swapping players throughout camp and pre-season to find the best combinations.

Can the Bombers repeat as Region 4 champs??????

I think they have just as good a chance as anybody else but they must work on their air attack (QB & WR positions). St. X has always grinded the football on the ground but their air attack has suffered since the 2010 season. This past 2011 season was better but still there were gaps and possible catches that weren't caught. If St. X's play can stay consistent, they should be in the running for not only the GCL, but also the R4 title.

Nobody seems to be talking about him and I'm not sure why? but Mooney seems to me to be someone who could take the reins at QB. If he is half as good as his brother was we'll be just fine.
