I agree TK is a great athlete and a very good wildcat QB. However, he does not have the arm to be everyday QB. If he did we would have seen a lot more throws last year. A great atlete does not necessarily equate to great arm. There are a lot of very good qb's who can not run or jump. He will not be QB next year. IMHO
You may be right but X has a huge number of WRs on the sideline. As far as a junior being QB, there's still 3 more seniors in line. Don't pass on them just yet.

Looks like 15 Plus WR 's coming back. Jv appeared to have a few good receivers as well. I just do not think X will make changes at this position with starters coming back. I agree not to rule out Seniors for QB postion.
If its not TK, it will not be a senior. Domhoff has shown he is not very good. Mooney won't start either. If its not TK, my bet is it will be Koesterman
We will see that we will see. I'm sure Specht would like a junior QB who can keep developing into his senior year but until he sees what all 3 seniors have, I say he sticks with one of the 3. He has already shown he prefers a senior over juniors. Scherer was much better than Schoenhoft (sp?), Hurley was better than Morris and Dolle was better than Albers yet Specht started the senior at the beginning, regardless.

At the beginning, Albers was better then Dolle. So was James. James got healthy and took Albers spot and then Dolle took over. Morris was better then Hurley originally. Hurley got better and took over. Scherer was not better then Shoenhoft originally. He got better his senior year. Specht puts the best players on the field
Albers was horrible! Dolle coming in was the only reason they were able to make the playoffs. Albers had no accuracy and his passes ended up in the defender's hands more often than his receivers. Hurley didn't get better, he got well from his injury and mono, which took up his entire season and Morris hadn't progressed the way Specht felt he should so he thought Hurley might do better (but didn't). James had an injured back and when he was well, he took over. Albers was already second string (and a senior). I'm telling you he likes seniors unless someone steps up and shows amazing skill. Dolle is the only junior QB ever to start a game in 8 seasons under Specht. That's not just a coincidence IMHO. And if TK is not going to be QB next year, then why not get Koesterman, Domhoff or Mooney a chance to cover for Dolle when he was hurt? Milligan will be the new wildcat as he proved himself in the playoffs against Moeller. This is how I see it for 1st-4th string. I'm not saying I'm right, but it's my opinion.

I disagree on about Albers. The receivers were horrible. When he delivered the ball the receivers dropped it. The receivers couldn't block so the outside and downfield running game was non-existant so the rush was much more intense. The receivers have improved in the last season and a half but you can't lay all that on Albers.

True, but he threw 4 INTs on his debut. That's unheard of for one QB. True the WRs didn't catch until after Dolle took over but Albers was not Dolle or James or even close.

Didnt Dom Randolph throw 4 INTs in his 1st start with X. He obviously had no clue how to play the position

Yeah and how many games did he play? And if it was 2004, I believe St. Eds won that game but had to forfeit their season due to an ineligible player. So yeah, he got beat. He's gotten much better but it wasn't until college that he did so.
Randolph got his only shot as a junior. Robbie was never pulled his senior year. It was the 03 season.
He probably should've been given more of a shot since he turned out to be so much more than Robbie. But still, unless Specht has no seniors (there's 3) who can step up, he is not going to put a junior behind center.

What are you talking about? Did you skip over the part where Luke Massa started in games as a sophomore and junior?
I agree is will get a great look. He certainly passes the eye test. Appears to be about 6'4" and is a classic drop back passer. Could be nice compliment to wildcat.

Exactly.
The JV coaching staff was very high on Tensing.
He has the strongest arm of the contending QB's.
With receivers like Frey, Milligan, Kilgore, Brinkman and Dunn returning I think he is the perfect fit for the 2013 StX offense.
Throw Hilliard and Glines into the backfield to run the ball and catch out of the backfield and it could be an explosive offense provided the O-Line comes together where Garrett Campbell is the only returner with varsity experience.
Glines has good hands and as a frosh Hilliard lined up as a WR on varsity so those 2 can catch the football.
I think the classic drop back passer in the mold of Luke Massa or Marty Mooney (Nick Tensing, Matthew Mooney or Ti Domhoffe) will be better suited to this offense than a running QB in the mold of Brad Scherer (Kilgore, Milligan, Koesterman or Huber)
We'll see.....camp is only half a year away!

I did say he seems to prefer seniors or juniors who can step up. Male and O'Toole weren't exactly QBs who could step up. They combined for a massive 1 win in 6 games. Kilgore won his only game at QB against the eventual state champions.

It'll be interesting. It would be nice to have a QB you can count on for 2 or more years like Massa, Dooros and those few who got the start ahead of seniors.

Lets think this thru...you have an offensive line that no one is sure of yet...one that you might need to give help to blocking thru a fullback or a tight end who chips on the LB's or DLmen....you sure you want an immobile QB against the pressure we are gonna see with our schedule?
I want my QB to look like the kid down at Louisville Trinity...and if I can't have that maybe somebody like an Andy Dalton..who can throw and get outside the pocket. Surely, we have kids like that at St. X. It doesnt have to be one way (drop back) or the other (scrambler). We can have the best of both worlds.
St. X has always had issues with QBs. Some years they have really good ones, and other years, the QB should have concentrated on playing other sports. Specht will sort it all out, look at all his options (he has 6) and make the best choice for the team.
Sorry but there is not a single high school in America that has 6 good QBs walking their halls. So if there are legitimately 6 guys in the running, then that means the guy taking snaps will be average at best.

X doesn't need a QB.
They win with defense.
If you're on offense, and your name is not Kilgore or Milligan, you are simply a nice kid that wasn't good enough to play D.

You put words in my mouth. I never said he has 6 "good" QBs. I said he has 6. He has 6 QBs on the varsity next year from JV and V combined. I never said they were good. But with 6, Specht is bound to find 1 that can get the job done.
Of this group, Jones and Lane are the 2 true studs. I predict Lane will see some game action, likely as a starter by the end of the season
You underestimate Bergman...excellent athlete who just needs to put on a few pounds. Might have been the best Tight End in Cincy out of that class coming into high school. Jones was starting on special teams during the playoffs this year and making plays...he may start at LB...esp since Jacobs has a while to rehab. Lane may also start the season as a starter... which 3 guys are better than Lane? Lane could easily show up at camp at 280 -285lbs....strong as an Ox & lead in the butt kid w a great motor that you need at nose tackle...

No, they are in every game due to their defense... games lost are due to their offense...see Pickerington, Louis St. X, Lou Trinity for example. We dont beat Colerain, Moeller, Mason etc without having a strong performance by Dolle....our QB

Exactly! In college, it's no mystery why most Heismann Trophy winners are QBs.
Each year St. X went to state, they were led by great QBs. Doxsey/Cafeo, Mooney, Scherer, Hurley/Massa. I'm missing one but don't remember his name.

Very true.... However, the Pickerington Central play-off game was lost by equally bad decisions made by the coaching staff. For example, it is in the 4th quarter of a low scoring game... X has the ball 4th and 1 and they are in field goal range (wind at their back mind you). Again, this is a low scoring game (X offense is having a bad night). You have a pretty good field goal kicker and in my opinion, X should have lined up for a field goal and took the points to go ahead 10-7. Granted, there is no guarantee that you make the field goal but I would have taken my chances given the fact the field goal kicker was having an excellent year. Instead, the X offense gets stuffed on 4th and 1. PC is now fired up and they go on a long march against the X D to win the game 14 - 7. In my opinion, it was a very bad decision not to attempt the field goal at that point in the game... Just say'n.

Not to mention, it was obvious it was going to be Hundley up the middle. Why didn't they run him around the side or do an option run that got them lots of yards with Cook around the side for a crucial block? When X was going to run, anyone could have predicted Hundley up the middle and he got stuffed 80% of those times. Then the plays that worked were abandoned by the OC. Why? They were killing Colerain and Moeller, they abandon it and the teams start making a comeback. X is lucky Moeller didn't win after coming back from being down 21-0 to make it 21-21. Just poor choices by the OC. Too predictable and nothing fancy very often. Not very creative!
