sorry, haven't been on here in a while. the coaches i spoke with were referring to a kid we already have, a soph on the jv that they say is really working hard and is a good athlete for our offense. they also think we may do something very similar to dover offensively next year as well. didn't know about the wrestler coming back, can't hurt that's for sure.
jackson has replaced canfield as our first scrimage opponent for the future...
Sounds good to me...^^^^....IMO the league will be a toss-up next year as of right now. I don't see any clear front-runner, and this should make for some really good league games. IMO also...the NBC as a whole needs to step up in the non-league portion of the schedule...these are games all the teams need to win, thus making the league games worth a little more to all involved.
Well, imo, if we don't go back to fundamental defensive attacks and wrap up tackling...any hope of a solid season will disappear just like this year.
Louisville needs to go back to what worked for ten years... discipline, hard work, dedication, live hitting, conditioning, playing two ways... and for god's sake - get rid of the gator roll tackling! we made every back look like an all ohio... Pathetic to watch and the defensive 4-3 scheme is the reason we didn't make playoffs.
Look - there was no reason to settle for a 6-4 season with the roster we had... that is not acceptable and was totally avoidable. If not for misplaced positioning on defense - we go to playoffs both years. No point in working hard at all if you are willing to settle for losing. And it would be nice to know how to strategize your timeouts - you cant panic under pressure as the head coach.
Contracts renew in what feb or march??? If Louisville wants a competitive and successful program, Demarco and Lewis have got to go... or next year will be alot worse. Even the defensive players returning were never properly prepared so they won't know any more than they do now.... brand new linebackers with no coach with linebacker experience to get them ready...hmmm... besides nothing says returners will play...look what happened with neff and poyser being returning defensive players...lol wow neff started as a soph for the best defense in the state)
Thomas is not transferring to Louisville... rumors...
The kid from Perry is too big to be the the running back...
I agree that we need to focus on stopping the run first. Maybe we can do a better job in tackling, maybe we can improve the scheme. But we were young (DTs) and undersized accross the board this year. Next year we'll be more experienced and we should be bigger at some positions defensively and that should help by itself.
But anyone who wanted neff and poyser to be 2 way players is off their rocker. We didn't hold up physically going one-way with those guys. Potts didn't go both ways. Or the older Poyser, or Powers. I agree some guys will have to contribute on both sides on the ball for us to be successful but that needs to be done with some balance in mind. Some of the DBs and WRs went both ways this year.
Next year the NBC should be competitive between West Branch, Marlington and Louisville (if our guys get to work).
But anyone who wanted neff and poyser to be 2 way players is off their rocker.
Well, somebody better help me because I've fallen and can't get up...
The reason I would have played them both ways is to have the best players on the field most or all of the time. Having one or both of those guys playing at least some on defense would have benefitted that unit. That said, I think the coaches would need to have been smart about it and not leave them both on the field every single down to the point where they are getting worn down. Maybe rotate them every other series on defense if they are playing full time on offense or something to that effect.
I agree you would want to limit them from playing both ways if/when they got injured. However, injuries are part of the game. A player could get injured at any point regardless of whether he is strictly playing one way or on both sides of the ball. The fact that they both got injured during the year wasn't due to a lack of toughness or ability on the player's part and really shouldn't have been a huge factor at the start of the season when everyone was healthy for determining if someone should play both ways or not. Keeping your best players on the sidelines doesn't do anything to help the team win.
Off their rocker = off the title run....lol If they had two way players we wouldn't have been two games in the hole by the time they were dealing with injuries. You really don't want to go there...should we start rattling off the two way players...seriously? lol kuhn, both swigerts, m poyser, whaley, schooley, elsass.... don't be ridiculous. Your best teams always have your best players on the field...
too conservative too cautious... we go out there trying not to lose now, instead of going out there to destroy.
The experience won't help the defense when they have been trained wrong.
end of story...
2009 was by far the exception to the rule... so strong on both sides of the ball j poyser and potts could focus on defense, and potts was the punter i believe. Although i would have paid to see those two on offense at their last game... note henderson and poyser were always undersized... didn't serve as an excuse then
First of all the D coachs were not smart. In the last 2 seasons record would have been no problem if the team was a 7-3 6-4 team. Both of these teams were much better the their record shows.
When your LBs never made their quota through 8 games that is on the LB coach and the head D coach. Changes needed to be made early in the season .EGO stopped coaches from making the right replacements. That Defense STOPPED NO ONE!! Coach D is responsible for the team including the Defense if he is going to be hands off head coach then this will be his last year. He needs to bust these coaches and hold them responsible for their positions results. To me the playoffs were missed due to the defense and the team better get a handle on this or next year will be rough.
I know some of the boys are working out until they were kicked out of the school weight room. Now a few are going to the Y. How is that helping the team for next year?
Doesn't/didn't most schools official off-season workouts start this week? I think there has to be a "quiet period" after the season is over, and then official workouts start.
I know the Hoover kids were at the Y in November, but workouts started this week in the weight room.

I agree with some of your points about our defense. Lets not get carried away by calling the 09 defense the best in the state. The best defense in the state does not get knocked out the first round of the playoffs. And how can a kid be "too big" to be a running back? I for one wouldnt mind seeing some power back there so we do not have to rely on the q.b. in every short yardage situation.
These guys were on their own lifting. The point is these guys are ready to start for next year.
The 09 Defense may not have been the best in the state but at lease they knew how to tackle and play hard.
My understanding is there will be no RB in 12. I know of a few guys that could be the power back if given the chance. I would like to see some tackles broken for a change and the RB run someone over. You can not send a small back up the middle time after time and gain yardage on a good team You are correct the QB is not tough enough to run the ball up the middle too many times without getting hurt. I still think the problem will be the Defense as Overthefence has stated. Demarco/Louis better fix this problem. It is Demarco’s problem to fix. RBs laugh at out 9 DB defense because these guy are too small to tackle a good back before he picks up 4-5 yards. Lets face it this team does NOT have the speed to run a 4-3 like Louis in visions. Go back to what works!!

I wanna make sure I got all this......
1. Nobody has played hard on Defense since 2009, and that's the coaches fault. Coaches should be making kids play hard....got it.
2. We play 9 DB's on Defense, but yet we don't have enough speed to run the 4-3. We must be really slow at the DB position.
These kids are out of position with this 4-3 geared to stop the pass the RB can run over them. Look at the stats. Louis saw what Buchtel did to Marlington and thought Louisville has the same kind of athletes. Well that is not true. Yes they are slower when comparing them to Buchtel.
222 Did you watch the games or maybe you could not see from the end zone but there were more than 1 kid not playing hard. That is on the coaches take the kid out and put someone else in that wants to play. The disrespect a few kids had toward some of the coaches is a coaching problem and disrupted the team.
222 you can't be serious. You really think the 4-3 is the defense we should be running or are you just protecting those sideline passes. You may think it is OK to throw your helmet, argue with the coaches, walk off the field and quit at halftime, but most people see it for what it is. No discipline and lack of respect for their coaches and team mates. That is on the coaches and Coach D better take charge or it will only get worse.
Look fella's....there is a 2 headed monster to fix when it comes to the attitude and readiness that this team needs to bring to the field next year. The coaches need to make sure they have done all they can to get these kids ready, and the kids need to apply what they have learned on the field. BOTH the kids and the coaches need to step up at their respective jobs...both did a poor job last season. The one thing that cannot be tollerated is....letting one or a few poison the well for the whole team. This is a respect or discipline problem that must get fixed at whatever cost...even if it means kicking someone off the team. You cannot allow the kids to run the team and call the shots. Hopefully, with each new senior class the leadership will not allow this to happen. I'm hearing some of the kids are working hard, and I hope it's true. What i'm not liking is the talk of no RB, or going to an offense like Dover's. If it's not broke don't fix it. By hearing these rumors it tells me we have given up any chance to let a kid step up and earn the position. C'mon....it isn't like Poyser lit it up for 1500 last year....all we need is a kid who can give us 70-80 a game to keep the defense honest...you go up against any good team and you have no running game...you're in trouble. IMO the running problems last year were on the o-line as much as the back...they were great pass blockers..average run blockers. I really hope we haven't given up hope in Dec. on a running game. These rumors should challenge any kid on the team to bust their arz and prove them wrong.

The one incident to which you are referring, I was standing on the sideline and watched not 1 but 2 coaches RIP that kid (which in my opinion is what caused him to leave at halftime). By the way, leaving at Halftime is on the PARENTS and the kid not the coaches.
Look I am not saying things don't need fixed, but I don't think a complete over-hall of the staff is needed. One of the biggest problem I see right now is people in our community filling these kids heads with excuses ie...Your coaches are bad, your out of place on the field, you deserve better....BS! Our problem isn't that we are making mistakes, our problem on the field is that we aren't making mistakes at 100 MPH. I could care less about the little mistakes we make, my only complaint is that we aren't going hard enough at ALL TIMES. Now, there are two fixes:
1. Coaches need to get on the kids more, but to say "take a kid out and put someone else in" that's not the fix because you know as well as I do that the kids that are on the field need to be there. We aren't Mass or McK where we have 10-15 guys standing on the sideline that are just as good as the guys on the field.
2. Our kids need to "bow up" and quit whining so much and play the Dam* game!! I just had a conversation about this very thing with a guy that I played with in HS. Kids today have become satisfied with mediocrity in our "everyone wins" society. Nobody wants to compete anymore, nobody wants to step on the other teams throat when the step on the field, and the parents are part of that blame as well. It's OK to compete, and it's OK to fail at times because let me assure that in life these kids will fail as often if not more then then succeed each day. No amount of screaming or coaching can make a kid compete. Now this has never been much of problem for us, but again times are changing.
Also let me add this, 8-10 years ago I had a conversation with a guy who has over 30 years in our Little Leopards program and he told me that 2003 could be a challenging year (7-5 yes 12 games but a 6-4 reg season). He then told 2006 would be a terrible year (5-5). In 2009 he told to enjoy the season because the next few years will hurt. My point is this, the talent level varies from class to class and if we get 2 classes back to back that don't measure up for whatever reason (lack of size or skill or whatever) then we would struggle even if we had Bill Belichick roaming the sideline.
I agree with some of your points about our defense. Lets not get carried away by calling the 09 defense the best in the state. The best defense in the state, if I remember correctly, didn't give up a TD in that playoff game - a questionable fumble call that got run back for a score cost LHS the game.
IMO the '09 defense was the best ever at LHS. And IMO the '07 team the best offense ever at LHS.
The defense gave up both TDs in that game. The first one MF started the drive inside our 10 after a Neff fumble and the second MF had 6 or 7 chances inside the 10 because we had an unsportsmanlike on 3rd or 4th that gave them a fresh set of downs. That defense was amazing and would have been even better with a healthy Swigert at CB! If he stays healthy we probably would have had a state title.....

This kid has been a problem all year. That was his 2nd personal foul call so he could not play that game any longer. Going home shows no backbone and the parents are to blame for that stunt.
222 1. Coaches need to get on the kids more, but to say "take a kid out and put someone else in" that's not the fix because you know as well as I do that the kids that are on the field need to be there. So… your saying the there are NO kids on the sideline could make a difference in the game?
On Defense I do not agree changing kids out would not hurt. What would get your attention as a player? You never know the kid on the bench might be better just given opportunity.
Blown assignments
Lack of hussler
Some just looked scared by the way they played
When the coaches give you the time with out earning it the kids do not tend to work as hard. A few of these kids were getting big heads and said they wanted to play 1 position only. Some of these kids told the coaches if they did not get their way they would quit. I would tell the kid good-by. That is when the back talking started. Some of these kids did not come to afterschool workouts when not in other sports and just show when required. When they did come they just goofed off.
The examples I gave were actually three different occurences. I agree the boy leaving at halftime is primarily a parental thing. I'm not trying to bash the new HC, I've known him for over 20 years and think he's a quality guy, I just believe we need to run a tighter ship with consequences for your actions. As far as the DC, I have never agreed with his ideas (thank God for Palmisano in '07), and believe he needs to be replaced. We need to get the swagger back and quit playing Tressel ball.

That's correct.
All teams must wait at least 30 days after their final game before they can begin any organized offseason conditioning program. That's an OHSAA rule. The earliest teams that missed the playoffs could've started would've been the middle of last week.
As to another posters' statement about kids being kicked out of the weightroom, nearly every school district I know of has a policy where no student is allowed in the weightroom unless accompanied by a responsible adult. It sounds like the kids in the situation the poster described may have been lifting without an adult present, so that would be why they would've been kicked out of the weightroom. The absence of an adult would be a major liability.

Seems like there is a "tug-of-war" between the offense coaches, and the defense coaches that has been going on. Last season the o-line was full of seniors that had previous game experience, and the d-line was essentially rebuilt from scratch. Two of those o-lineman could have started and made a difference on the d-line...then Reynolds could have moved to LB. This could have been done without having anybody going both ways...the o-line might not have been quite as good...but the defense would have been much better from the get-go (the 5-3 not the 4-3). If your not gonna have kids go both ways, then you need to compromise with the players your willing to put on the field, and "coach" some with no experience so their ready for Friday night (Province 6'3 308 and played in a handful of games, and made plays). I'm not a fan of the DC either....but last season his job could have been made easier by not putting ALL the bigs with experience on offense. McElroy and Neff have experience on defense...will we need them on offense next season? If so we're back to the same problem...returning very few kids on defense with game experience.
i have had the honor in meeting and knowing quite a few of you Lep posters on here. I also have had the honor of meeting and knowing quite a few of your coaches.
The one thing I can always say in all my years is Louisville backs their football team and coaches and that was a LARGE reason for the extended/continued success even through lean years. You are going to have those lean years here and there. The coaching staff at Louisville is top notch and a classy group - I watched the 7-7 jamboree at Fawcett at the beginning of the year - you dont want your coaches to act like a particular set of coaches from the one team you played that didnt have control of their kids, remember? To bail on this staff would only help to send your program into mediocrity. rough year maybe - inept coaches I dont think so. 222 has some valid points. The work it takes in football is hard, long, and doesnt have the instant gratification or individual accolades as other activities, and when mama doesnt see her baby getting his then there is problems. This problem never seemed to be present in nimishillen twp - dont let it creep in now or you will lose what makes you special.
just my opinion from someone who has watched your program for over 30 years and known several of your coaching staffs.
Coaching is so easy anyone can do it. I dont know why we just don't replace the staff with the yappi rejects and little loser coaches that brag because they win a championship in a 4 team league. That would get us on the right path I am sure.
Has anyone on on this thread ever coached at the varisty level?
Everyone knows what "needs to be done" because you guys are just so smart.
