That could be a good fit as CPS has better sideline security to keep angry wives off of the field.

Heck, with some of the shots she landed on Ricky, I think they may try t oget her on the team down there!!!

I think Garfield returns 15 or 16 starters from last year's poor showing. They knew it was going to be a down year by numbers of seniors on the team, but they do possess nice numbers in the freshmen class and they do have some players. Only time will tell, but I think they have a good chance to baounce back and make some noise next season. I think that Firestone, Buchtel and Garfield will be the top teams in the league. But hey, who knows, maybe the worst team in the state, North, might actually score in double digits in a game or two this coming season?!?!

Wouldn't East be considered the worst team in the state considering North beat them? Just saying.

North wasn't the worst team or program in the state last season. North's program is in much better shape than East's. East couldn't organize a coin toss!

Powers isn't going anywhere, he has his dream job! There are great things going on over at 1040 Copley rd!

Remember that the Board put restrictions on Flossie during the season, but they only operate on annual supplemental contracts for coaches, so those things won't necessarily go through this year. What do you all think? What do you all think-a-dink-a-dink about this? Spit on it!

Looks like STAIN was correct there is an opening at EAST

"
East opens football job
East is looking for a new football coach, Joe Howard of the Akron Public Schools said in an e-mail Tuesday.
Damon Beasley had been the coach at East since July 2002."

Alot of guys will go for the East job. There has never been any shortage of talent or size on the east side. A guy like Flossie would thrive there because he isn't worried about hurting feelings and instilling discipline to the program. I expect Adam Flossie, Jake Thompson, Eric Mitchell, maybe Jay Brophy Sr. to go after the position. Lets hope the APS makes a decision sooner than later for the sake of the kids in the program.

Well, I don't like to say it, but I will, I told you all so. Maybe East will turn it around a bit now. I know they have athletes, but they really need to get the attitudes and discipline turned around. Beasley must have never heard the word discipline based on the performances of his teams. And I am not talking about how bad they usually were, everyone will have bad teams now and then, but the discipline should be there all the time, through bad and good times. I could see all of the above mentioned guys applying for this job, but I would venture a guess that they will hire a guy with some serious pee-wee coaching experience.

I think Beasley got caught in the same trap alot of city coaches get caught in. It happened to Johnson, Proctor, and Grimes. They fear losing talented players so much they can't maintain disipline and the players see this and take advantage. Lack of respect of each other and the coaching staff are the next step and after that...an inability to win a game.

Well, they still could beat Barberton!!!

I'm hearing many of the names that others have mentioned (the usual suspects) plus 1 or 2 of the guys that were let go from Hoban.

I understand they have to wait until February 6th to talk to Coughlin and Belichik's assistants.

I don't think that Proctor's problems at Firestone had anything to do with discipline, it was probably overdiscipline. The man was nuts. HE was overly driven to operate his team like a marine corps, from what I heard. He had some pretty nice teams early in his career there, especially on defense. Then the kids started leaving the teams and he really had no clue. I also heard he wouldn't even break dow nan opponent's game tape completely until Tuesday. Special teams on Sunday, Offense on Monday, and Defense on Tuesday was how I heard he operated. Well, it showed the last several years of his tenure!

Heck with the Pats and Giants coaches, there are coaches right up 77 thay might be qualified!

Aren't these the same names that apply for every coaching job that opens in the City?

I'm pretty sure Brophy is done coaching due to the benefits that he's getting from the NFL. My guess is Jake Thompson will be a front runner. He teaches at East CLC in the middle school and would be great with recruiting those students to play football. He's been out of coaching for a year or so working with the Thanks4giving all-star game but I'm sure he would like to get back into coaching.

What other names are people hearing? Are any high schools closing? If so I could see those coaches applying.

Proctor's teams were unorganized and out of control. I don't want to say bad things about him, though. I like the man. I think there is something to be said for assistant coaches as well. Proctor and Beasley had issues with putting together good staffs. When you look at the resurgance of Kenmore you see a real staff, Firestone - real staff, Garfield - real staff. I believe Ricky Powers only saving grace as a coach is his ability to find good coaches. The fact that he blows through them like the wind is another issue. Now North has a real coaching staff and you can see the difference. What Kenny Johnson had at North was a mess and it showed on the sideline just like Grimes at Kenmore or Beasley at East. One critical thing a prospective coach must show in the city is a blueprint of how he is going to build a quality coaching staff. Eric Mitchell, for example, can do that. A former DIII coach of the year, he brings crediblity and track record. What you can't have is a pee-wee coach who brings pee-wee coaches. Doesn't work at this level!

I wouldn't be so quci to crown one of those 2 with the head job yet. It has just been posted, so there are plenty of other decent coaches out there that could throw their hats in the mix. I wouldn't be surprised if Tatum throws his hat in the mix, if he is able to. I know he had an issue several years ago, but I think he is still in the schools, so he should be able to coach.

Schedules for both STVM and Hoban have been released. Neither school is playing a CS team. How many times in the past 50 or 6O years has this happened? Sign of things to come? Those STVM-Garfield games were memorable? Recent Buchtel-STVM game was intense.

Buchtel will be back on the St VM schedule in 2013.
Not sure about Garfield though.

I hope the East job goes to a younger coach. I feel that's what the city really needs right now. The Lacktash kid is doing good things at North right now, let's get some new blood in the districts coaching ranks.

Tatum will never be permitted to coach anywhere. He was convicted of a felony. Automatic disqualifier!
