Merrill Triplett replaces Bob Shaffer as HC at Portsmouth West. Triplett took a leave of absence in the 2011 season due to a family illness.

Westerville North hires Elander as coach

Westerville North High School hired Rodger Elander as its new football coach.

Elander replaces Mike Owens who stepped down in February to coach Franklin Heights.

Elander spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator on the eighth grade team. From 1992-2009, Elander held numerous jobs with the North football team as a defensive coordinator and line coach, offensive line coach, special teams coordinator and junior varsity head coach.

"Rodger's excitement and experience are indicative of the path and vision we have for the Warrior football program," North principal Kurt Yancey said. Elander has taught math at Westerville North since 1992.

Under Owens, North was 0-30 in three seasons. Their last victory came Sept. 19, 2008, when they defeated Westerville Central 21-17. North has lost 35 consecutive games.

Owens was truly consistent wasn't he? wouldn't you try to schedule a guarenteed Non League win at some point?? If giving full effort adn having some resources like North has going 0-30 is almsot as difficult as running the table to me . Hats off to Owens, GETTING A NEW GIG RIGHT AWAY AFTER GOING 0-30 is also quite an accomplishment .


Does Jeff Gafford have another gig left in him ?? I would say yes but he probably saw the writing on the wall and didn't see making the play-offs on a consistent basis a possibility at Marysville in the current landscape of the conference .

The man can coach , someone would, be lucky to get him
