Reading Baseball

For those who would like to comment on how this years team might do. Positions that will be battled for and who might be the surprises this year. I look for this Blue Devil team to compete for the CHL.

Hopefully those kids can contribute. Even at Reading, freshmen to varsity is a big jump. As long as their fundamentals are decent, they have a chance. We should have good comp. in the outfield. Garret Edwards will fill one of the spots.

I know that Reading has Started some pretty good freshmen in past years in Corey Woodward and Tyler Bessey. Garrett Edwards also played a little as a Freshmen. Do you think the Pavilack,Antoun, and lacinak kid are at the same levels these 3 were?

Tyler Hitz catcher,no varsity exp. though. Tyler Bessey at SS, Corey Woodward at 2b. Garret Edwards OF. Who's your 3b,1b,RF,LF.? When Corey pitches, you have Dustin Hinkin as a utility INF. Alot of pos. up for grabs.

exactly that is why i think these kids will get valuable experience this year ...antoun and pavilack can play infield and outfield...lacinak can pitch and play outfield

Well the 25th is creeping up. Anything new from the ball team? When does basketball end for the Devils? I have heard rumors we will be playing D5-6. I personally don't know what Reading baseball is anyways. Does anyone catch besides Hitz? Hopefully Hitz catches pretty decent, such an important pos. Drop and block, drop and block. Can't wait to hear the crack of the bat!!!

I think they should win every game Woodward pitches. And they always seem to hit well. The question is how their pitching will be after Woodward and their defense. But Reading should definately compete in the CHL this year.

Suicide Squeeze

Pavilack and Antoun need to work on the Suicide Squeeze. The most important play in baseball.

I played with Hitz for a few years in summer ball. Solid hitter and is deceptively fast. He's a pitcher's catcher. Doesn't have the strongest arm, but he is smart and calls a good game. He is also a strong leader. He should be fine as Reading's starter.

Dustin Hinken was on the team as well, and I can attest to his ability as well. He's spectacular in the field- excellent range and quickness. He's also good at the top or hidden in the bottom of the lineup.

Not for sure what impact the frosh will have but right now Pitching; Woodward,Bassler,Gertz,Manis. All with decent arms.Bassler seems to mix pitches well and Gertz and Manis will give you a chance to win. 1b.Bassler,2b.woodward,ss.Bessey,3b.Hinken or Gertz. OF-Edwards,and not sure about other spots.

Corey Woodward has a partial tear of a tendon in his ankle. Should be ready in about two weeks.

Looks like Reading opens up scrimmaging CHCA March 20, then Norwood the 25. Hows the team looking? Hopefully there are enough kids to battle for pos.Guys pay attention to your coaches and learn how to play the game better. You have a chance to go along ways this year.Work on all those boring little things(covering 1st base,pick-off pos. etc.) They will win you games. Remember the colleges and the pros work on the same things. Good luck.

Saw alittle of the practice today.Nice looking squad. A few things caught my eye. One,your BP coach struggled to throw strikes, so not alot of good comes out of it except maybe some bad habbits. Two,watching pitchers on pick-offs.Remember guys, you throw to 1st,cover 1st.You throw to 3rd,cover 3rd. Do not stand around.Sorry to say this, but if you stand around, baseball becomes boring. Always be ready to cover an open bag.I heard a father say that the young man that did not cover a bag was a JV kid.Guess what, It's time to learn.I saw a third baseman run a kid almost to the catcher on a pick-off. Run the kid back to the bag he came from. You will lose games if you continue this practice. Next Thur.up in Xenia....good luck Devils

Good start for the Devils after one week.(3-0).The boys are playing very good baseball with hardly any errors.Garret Edwards,Cody Manis,Hinken, Antoun, and Bessey have been a huge lift for the team. Woodward and Basler are throwing well.Tyler Hitz is doing a great job behind the plate. Good luck guys, you have the makings of a very good team.

Reading continues to swing good bats.Tyler Hitz doubled and homered(his 2) and Garret Edwards also hit a dinger. The boys are playing good baseball and should be a positive sign going into play against Madiera Friday. Wed. have a pesky Taylor team with Woodward on the hill. Ben Gertz pitched well against DP, he just needs to mix his pitches.
