GCPRO and America One's Baseball Knowlege Thread Hosted By BlueFan

Since GCPRO is on a self imposed exile from the West Side Little League thread, and since America One always seems to have a good nugget of information to pass along, I thought it would be a shame to let these titans of SW Ohio baseball languish without dispensing baseball knowlege for we, the unwashed masses. Have at it, boys!

while I appreciate the love, I cannot comment. I have been threatened with my all too lovely life and all should realize I am a lover not a fighter. All is good. Thanks for the thread and Live big.

Aw, come on GC....this thread has nothing to do with WSLL. It's baseball advice for the masses. The combined knowlege of you and A-1 all wrapped up in a Yappi thread....priceless!

I must not be on top of my game today, because I'm not sure I enjoy the sarcastic manner in which I am being "called out." I suppose I dish it out so I must be able to take it as well. As for my counterpart, America One, he seems to be a little bit wiser than myself and just taking the high road. Kudos to him.
As for my baseball knowledge, a former female friend of my mine once summed it up as "I sure talk a good game," suggesting I would guess it ended with the talking. Live big!

No sarcasm. No "calling out"
I'm just laying the canvas down.
Now it's time for Picaso to paint!

Okay, I'll play. If a pitcher is pitching a no hitter and your up, do you lay down the bunt or go for it?

It would depend on what inning we are in and who the pitcher is. I do not like to bunt unless we are deep into the game and nobody can hit the pitcher. Bunting though important is useful when you catch the other team asleep, have a slow pitcher (off the mound), and/ or have speed and the correct count. Bunting works great at the younger ages but not always as well at the older age groups. JMO

Tell Norris Hopper that and the pitchers who constantly practice bunting so they cna move runners into scoring position at the major league level.

At the younger levels - You are correct if you constantly play teams not as talented - you might as well just knock the ball all over the yard. However when talent is even and every run could be the difference in the game bunting is a VERY important part of the game. Granted it will not get you noticed by scouts but it will tremendously help win baseball games.

The question did not have enough information. I agree bunting is very important and should be practiced just as much as hitting. In high school unless the pitcher is a very strong hitter they will usually have a DH hit for the pitcher. I think kids who are extremely fast are crazy for not developing thier bunting game. I had a player from Ross on my summer team and most of his hits in high school were bunts. That was smart on his part. It helped his average and I am sure it helped his team.

As someone with your obvious baseball knowledge would know most bunt hits have nothing to do with the speed of the hitter but the placement of the bunt. In fact most bunt OUTS are because the player tries to get out of the box too quickly and ends up bunting the ball right back to the pitcher.

The Big X-you don't tug on Superman's cape, you don't spit into the wind, you don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger and you don't question A1's baseball knowledge. Mad props to Jim Croce for that tidbit.

Hey, that's more like it. I guess what Got Pop was refering to if you have a not hitter late in the game and the margin is close 1-0..or something like
that. I thought there was an "unwritten" rule that you don't try for cheap hits like that...but maybe that's on the major league level.

Come on GCPro I am not questioning anyones baseball knowledge - just pointing out a few inaccuracies with A-1s post that is all!!!!!

You know A-1 is used on old over-done steaks to hide the fact that they really aren't as good as advertised. Capiece???????????????

If the score is 1-0 the game is definitely still on the line. One base runner is the tieing run. Nothing wrong with bunting for a hit there. However if one baserunner would not tie or win the game - if you bunt the next batter better have a good helmet or some rib pads on.

So you're saying late in a 2-0 game and a batter breaks up a no hitter by leading off the inning with a bunt hit, you're going to put the tying run on base with nobody out???

Your right - I should have stated a game that is more than 3 or 4 runs different I don't think a bunt should happen but if the game is still in doubt - all bets are off. Any way to get on base is OK

I agree with that...5-0 and you break up my pitcher's no hitter with a bunt in the last inning and you better have an apology ready for your buddy who hits behind you....i'm talking at the older age levels, and no throwing at the head, a nice fastball to the ribs will make the point.

On another note....what do you do if a team squeezes with an 8-2 lead in the 6th inning?

Agiain the next batter better have some extra padding on.

Of course someone will come on here and say it is OK if you have a run rule because you are trying to get to the run rule.

I never have and never will ust the squeeze to get to a run rule win. That's a mockery of what the play should be about, though I have seen some teams do it. If I can't get the run home from 3rd base with les than 2 outs for a run rule victory, then we play on.

now me I find that a little bush being down 5-0 in the 7th and you bunt to break up the no-no, break it up early...... if the kid beats you he beats you!!! now in HS or the Pro's sure but at younger ages give the kid his glory it is something he will never forget and are we not all in it for the kids at the early ages!!!!

squeezing late in a game with a nice lead is something the coaches should talk about I would take it as a direct shot at me as a coach more than trying to add -on

bpdawg: Agreed that is bush....I would NEVER squeeze to fullfill a run-rule victory. NEVER... If you can not get it done leading by that much you do not deserve to win. I have seen it done though.
When my son was 13 he lost a perfect game on a bunt in the bottom of six when the first baseman pulled his foot. We were winning 8-0 at the time. Kind of sucked...

If your son faced that kid again, a fastball to the ribs would be in order

I see 3 people referenced here. I would venture to say the instigator is the one with issues.

GCPRO, I'm NOT trying to embarass you at all. Really!

I am sorry you take offense to this thread. I actually want you to keep posting baseball related stuff, because I do enjoy reading a lot of your posts.

You have decided to leave the WSLL thread for various reasons, so I
wanted to keep the entertainment going in general baseball discussion.

If you think I am trying to embarass you...please be assured that was
NOT the purpose of this thread. You still have my respect.

Peace Always...
BlueFan

P.S. If you want, I will close down this thread. I really have no interest
in embarrassing you. I hope you realize that.

Bluefan-it's all good. It is what it is! No need to apologize, all of your posts are right on. What goes around comes around. The natives are all wired up on your other thread, I hope it all works out for your son and their team.
