Northwest 62 - Wooster 40
by starkravingdad
All 10 Northwest Indians scored and a nasty zone press turned a close game into a rout at the Pizza Oven Classic as the Indiands defeated Wooster by 22.
NW got off to a good start and a 12-2 lead, but the Generals fought back to 12-7 at the end of 1 quarter. The Generals shot well in the 2nd Q and outrebounded NW in the first half by 5, but NW held on to a slim 22-18 lead.
But a 2-2-1 zone press by NW blew the game open in the second half. Numerous General turnovers led to a 28-point explosion in the 3rd quarter by NW. The Indians scored early and often in the 3rd from all over the court, resulting in a 50-29 lead at the end of 3.
Both teams substituted freely in the 4th as NW called off the press. Also, the refs woke up and decided to call some fouls, so the 4th quarter took longer to play than the entire first half.
Balance was the name of the game for NW. Paul Hensley led the scoring parade with 11 points, with Jim Shiplett and Evan Hudson adding 10 and Tyler Krzynowek chipping in 9 in limited action. Shiplett, Hudson and Mark Gauer each had 3 rebounds for NW.
A busy NW team, playing 5 games in 8 nights, heads to Alliance tonight in a showdown of NBC leaders.
