Canton Timken 66 - Garaway 54
By starkravingdad
Less than 24 hours after blistering Fairless for 110 points on the losers' home floor, Timken dug deep and found enough left in the tank to put away a good Garaway team at the Pizza Oven Classic Saturday night. Timken won two games in 24 hours and remained unbeaten.
A packed crowd was treated to a good HS basketball game. It was no suprise the Trojans started slow after the 23-point PAC win on Friday. Garaway jumped out to leads of 7-0 and 12-2 before the first quarter ended at 15-8.
With the Pirates leading 20-15 in the second, Timken changed the tempo with a full court press and went on a 13-4 run. Converting Garaway turnovers into points, the Trojans took a 28-24 lead into the locker room and would never trail again.
Garaway closed to 41-38 early in the 4th, but Timken changed presses again with similar results. The pressure was too much for the Garaway ballhandlers and Timken took control with a 15-0 run. On one sequence, Johnie Davis was guarding Tyler Gerber as Gerber brought the ball upcourt. Gerber thought he had gooten past Davis, only to have Davis tip the ball out of his hands from behind. A Timken player picked it up and hit Davis on the run. Davis took flight and threw down a monster dunk, and the game was essentially over at that point.
Davis led the Trojans with 19, who also had Chaz Moore added 13. The Trojans also had 4 other players with at least 8 points. Gerber paced the Pirates with 20.
