conversation with Brandon Webb

I took my son this past weekend to the Brandon webb baseball camp in Ashland, Ky. I know Brandon's agent who also lives in West Chester. I got to spend about 30 minutes one on one with Brandon picking his brain about pitching. Of course i wanted to know what his secret was to his phenomenal sinker - certain grip, rotation of the wrist, etc. He said it is just his 2 seam fastball and accredited it more to his arm action and feel for the pitch. If he overthrows trying to throw in the low to mid 90s it will lose its affect. He pitches best when his fastball is 88 to 90. Oddly enough he didn't even develop his sinker until after he was drafted. You can see from his minor league stats he quickly moved up and was in the majors after 2 full minor seasons. He's listed at 6'2 but is easily 6'4. He was present at the camp all six hours each day and was an absolute pleasure to speak with, a breath of fresh air from an accomplished budding superstar. I'm definetly now a fan, but come opening day he will be facing Aaron Harang versus the Reds.
