This spring, Cuyahoga Falls, Cuyahoga Vally Christian Academy, Walsh Jesuit, and Woodridge high school are supposed to participate in the Cuyahoga Falls City Championships for an impromptu tournament to decide "the best team in the city of Cuyahoga Falls. I think this is a great way for the local teams to play to see how they fare against each other. It enables the players to play against the kids they see in the summer. Any thoughts on how this tournament should play out?

I'm not a gambler but my crystal ball says Walsh vs Woodridge in championship.
Woodridge is loaded and will stay with all top teams in the state.
Both teams have pitchers that can dominate.
I hope these games are played to raise money for a good cause because I think a good crowd will be on hand to see all 4 teams compete.
Double elimination would be best to showcase depth and talent.
They had something like this in 2006 at Woodridge with Walsh and Hoban. Woodridge and Walsh both defeated Hoban, and Walsh beat Woodridge 3-1 in the final game.
Anyone know when and where? This would definately be something to see. Don't be surprised to see Falls have a big year. They have two sophmore pitchers that are gonna be studs. A lefty and righty who both throw in hard.
This is a great idea. We have several good teams in NE Ohio and Akron area. I like the idea of these local mini-tournaments as well. Many of these kids grow up playing with each other in the summer, so it's just a good extension of good friendly rivalries. As far as this tournament, I'd like to see type of tournament include teams such as Stow, Hoban, and Tallmadge as well.
that I totally agree with this idea, rather then a double header witht he same team on a Saturday. It would have to be a lot more fun for the athletes as well. As for the match ups in the CF playoff, I will take Walsh Jesuit as the winner. Always loaded with talent Coach G does a great job up there.
I hope this becomes a staple on these four teams schedules for years to come. Double-headers are fun, but this type of tournament excites me simply due to the fact that most of the seniors involved on these four clubs will be moving on to play ball in college. The talent level at this tournament will be very high. I wouldn't be surprised to see college scouts there, potentially pros. Just the potential of this tournament is exciting. And from what i understand, it's supposed to be relatively early in the season, something like a middle-April weekend. It should be very interesting and i encourage all who posted on this site to attend when the final date is assured. I also like the charity angle. That should be something any insiders with the coaching staffs or athletic directors should run by those individuals. Who wouldn't want to play in a charity event that has a high level of competition correlating with it?
I would have liked to see CVCA in this thing last year with that team that they had.. They are very young this year, but you never know. its a great program. The Falls is definitely the best city of baseball in NE Ohio and maybe the whole state.
However, Woodridge and Walsh are very senior-dominated teams, especially in pitching. Woodridge has three pitchers throwing 85+, and Walsh has two of the best left-handers in ohio in Dave Starn and Brannon Belair, not just in my opinion, but they actually are. If you watched them during the summer...oh my.
The two sophomores from falls, holland and paridon, are very talented, but experience is usually what takes home victories. Just common sense. I am, however, extremely excited to see the two sophs toss in the tournament. It will be very pitcher-dominated. I wonder how the CVCA club will fair pitching wise. I remember woodridge beat them last year, but don't know of any reloading. Right now i think they're the question mark. still a solid club though and well coached.
CVCA is going to be "down" this year. If I recall they only have 3 seniors. They lost 11 to 12 from last years team which was loaded. They do have their catcher returning who is very good. The other two seniors saw little or no time last year due to the loaded senior class. The Royals also lost ALL of thier pitchers and will have a really young staff.
CVCA is going to give a lot of people fits though because of the coaching they get. They have a really young team 2 or 3 sophs. looking to start. This could be one of the roughest seasons for CVCA in the last 10 years. Any how thats just my imput.
thanks for the update, cvcaroyals. now that we have an idea of how CVCA will be, it will probably come down to woodridge and walsh. however i'm not counting out falls. their worthy of a title game appearance.
I wouldn't count CVCA out in this series. Though they are young they are talented. They open up this series with Woodridge which will be a battle. It always is a battle. I see them being very competitive actually I know they will be because there coaching staff is first class. My prediction as of now game 1 CVCA vs. Woodridge 8-5 in the favor of Woodridge. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that this is a weekend series with league games looming on Monday for the teams so could be some high scoring games with teams saving their aces for league games. Just a thought!
Interesting prediction on the score. I put it more what it was like last year, in the 12-2 area in favor of woodridge. Woodridge has the best four-man rotation in NEO with Krusinski (7-0 in '07) , Jones (5-1) in '07), Westren (5-0 in 0'7), and Wilhite (8-2 in '07), 3 of the four being seniors except Westren who is a sophomore this year. all except westren had below a 3 era. My point? CVCA's youthful lineup will have difficulty with the experience of the senior-led rotation of Woodridge. But, of course, it will be an exciting game to watch to see how they do fare.
