Winton Woods vs. Jonathon Alder

Winton Woods travel to Columbus to face Jonathon Alder. What kind of offense do they run? What should expect Sat. evening?

Most years I would expect JA to give WW a good game if not win. This year JA is trying to rebuild. Normally they are a very strong program.

Do you feel that Alder's schedule is too difficult or not Harbins friendly?

The Pioneers seem to have bitten off more than they can chew, particularly in the second half of their schedule. This shouldn't come as a surprise, since almost everyone else is playing a league schedule weeks 6-10, so that leaves you relatively few options to pick up games.

Those travelling to Plain City should eat their pregame meal at Der Dutchman, IMO. Get there early, because it will be very crowded.

Massie, WW and Thurgood Marshall are all title contenders...Zanesville will prob finish 10-0 and Watterson is Watterson. Remember, Alder is still a Div.IV school.

Alder is Div. III, Region 12. Along with Thurgood Marshall. Watterson is Div. III, Region 10. Clinton Massie is Div. IV, Region 16. Winton Woods and Zanesville are Div. II.

I just looked up the results of Alder's games and Zanesville really put it on Alder, wow. Man how good is Zanesville? And Clinton Massie also put it on Alder. I think if WW plays with maximum effort and keep mistakes down we should be ok. I just worry about the fact we don't know much about our opponent, 2 hour road trip and game is on grass.

I know its early in the game but based on Zanesville being 5-0 and only having 83 harbins as compared to WW at 4-1 having 132 points. They arent playing the caliber of teams that we are this season so far.

I have a question regarding the rules on where the ball is placed after a missed fg. Last night, the Alder kicker tried a 58 yard fg and came up way short. The ball was placed at the 20 for WW to take over. Has this always been the rule? I don't remember seeing this before. If this is the rule, why would you ever punt?

For high school, yes; and punts are harder to block[placement of ball on fg's by holder is closer to line of scrimmage ] and tend to have a higher hang time. A FG attempt that does not reach the endzone can be returned-low trajectory and no runners by punt team can lead to some nice returns.

"If a ball crosses the plane of the goal line on a missed field goal, it would be a touchback and the opposing team will start at the 20 yard line." -NFHS

Devin Hester holds[with several others] the high school record for longest return of a missed fg -108yds: obviously, he played in one of the 2 states using NCAA rules and not NFHS rules.

Props to WW coaching staff. Regardless of opponents record or division, it is impressive to consistently come back time after time in the 2nd half and find a way to win. after all i heard about the troubles of last year, it appears from afar that they have made adjustments to the approach and attitude. The tone and attitude of a program are the edge that will ultimately get you there. Especially at a place like WW where there is a steady stream or quality players. Anyone know if they have cut down on all the penalties and emotional meltdowns the program is famous for?

Getting a few less penalties this year and I have not witnessed a meltdown. This year we have a true "team" IMO.
