I figured there was enough Troy/GWOC fans to warrant a thread.

https://www.tdn-net.com/sports/46172...roys-scrimmage

Here is five thoughts from The Fong based on the scrimmage the other night. I would pretty much agree with everything he said, but it's pretty much what everyone already knows...it's all about the lines. Troy has a ton of experience and talent on both offense and defense away from the lines. It's going to be the trenches that decides how good this Troy team can really be. They have some big bodies but it's just getting some experience that is going to be the key.

Troy should go at least 9-1 this year if they can get decent qb and line play. They have a plethora of skill guys and a good defense.

Troy will struggle with Turpin, Miamisburg and Piqua.
They should finish 9-1. Burgbacher has done a good job.

I don’t see them struggling in those games. Piqua will always be a hard battle no matter the talent level of the teams, but I see it being a 2-3 score victory. Miamisburg is well coached but they lose a lot and I don’t foresee that one being all that close. Turpin isn’t that good at all, so I’m not sure why you think they’d struggle in that one. They were 4-6 and play in a weak conference.

The game I’m nervous about is Belmont. I think Troy wins but with it being the first game, Troy will be breaking in many new players. And Belmont is well coached and they have athletes. It’s not a good first game.

Uh dude the ECC is one of the best D1 D2 leagues in the state.Anderson,Kings,Turpin,West Clermont, and Milford are all quality programs all of which Troy would have problems beating. Uh Belmont? you are worried about Belmont?

No, if you go back and look at my comments from last year, I was one who didnít buy the Belmont world beaters crap. I thought they were over hyped. Iím worried about it being game 1. No teams are the same week 1 to late in the year. What Iím saying is Belmont has a better chance to beat Troy than those other 3. And sorry but Kings, Turpin, Milford etc donít scare me. Anderson kicked out behind last year no doubt about it. That qb was special and that team was good. The rest of that conference is just meh.

Uh I guess we will see. I hear the Anderson QB this year is a really good player and Anderson has an Offensive lineman being recruited by all the major powers in the country. Belmont would have no chance in the ECC.

In order of toughest games:
Miamisburg
Piqua
Belmont
Turpin

Miamisburg loses their best running back (Clark) and WR (Johnson) that Troy had trouble with. Miamisburg is a good program with a well run offense, so Iím sure they will be decent. Plus, any time you return a QB for his third year itís a good thing (even for the run heavy Miamisburg). Plus it seems like they bring back some talent on defense.

Piqua is always a battle, just like the OSU vs. Michigan game. Piqua will probably not be great this year but always are good fundamentally.

Belmont seems to lose a lot from a team that performed well on a bad schedule. I think Troyís physicality and depth will wear out Belmont by the end of the game, and hopefully Troyís inexperience wonít get to them.

Iím going to be honest, I donít see a lot from Turpin. Lose their quarterback, running back, top wide receiver, and a few of their top defensive players. They didnít have a very impressive resume last year, so unless their coach has a big culture change and is just getting his guys into place, I canít see Turpin being great.
