This may have been discussed, I'm not reading through the whole thread but I just heard on WLW that this guy was a military advisor of Obama who had gone to DC a few times to advise him. He sure seems to have a problem surrounding himself with decent people.
Here we go again. How can we blame this on Obama?
Yeah, like a major is going to advize a Commander-in-Chief
Unless this guy has some particular training or other special ability, I don't see any way a Major gets face time with the Commander-in-Chief. Although I'm beginning to have my doubts this guy was just a military psychiatrist as advertised.
That said, plenty of nutballs get time with this C-in-C. He seems to make a point of ensuring it.
Again I'm sorry for my break with my usual outlook, but we need to face the fact that radical, extremist Muslims are a very real threat to the United States no matter where they live. Forget the usual of religious freedom. This problem has been going on for well over a thousand years; its tribal. Many of these fools would behead any of us if given a chance.
Also we must realize, accept and acclimate to al Qaeda's operational reality now which follows thusly. We have performed our 3 D's of preventing terrorist attacks so well (Deny, Disrupt and Destroy) that al Qaeda's operational ability is pretty degraded as compared to what it was on September 10, 2001 which was likely its high water mark. The degradation of that ability doesn't mean that terrorist attacks are going to cease or that Americans are going to stop dying at the hands of Islamists but, rather, it means that al Qaeda is having to shift its strategy. Attacks like 9/11 that involve seizing important and (potentially) dangerous infrastructure to destroy financial and defense targets along with bombings are not as likely to be planned now because al Qaeda recognizes that the changes in security and the average American's mindset have made things more difficult. Seizing some kind of mass transit vehicle for an attack is nearly impossible without putting perhaps double the number of operatives on it as the number that were on Flight 93 because Americans know what Islamists plan to do with the vehicle once they seize it and they would rather die to prevent the attack than die when the attack is successful. Increased security precautions at all entries to the United States have made cobbling together enough serious (i.e. C4) explosives to accomplish a heavy casualty attack nearly impossible and al Qaeda's attempts to buy it within the United States have not panned out as they had expected. al Qaeda is content to brew volatile but powerful explosives on its own like TATP (a.k.a. Mother of Satan) but they have run into two difficulties that have limited the widespread availability of TATP to their operatives: the kind of skilled craftsmen (who must be loyal to al Qaeda) needed to produce the stuff in large quantities can only be brought in from outside the U.S. currently & the U.S. is giving much scrutiny to all nationalities that are linked with al Qaeda operations and the NSA's massive data mining operation (which crunches through reams and reams of credit card receipts and other commercial sales data) have yielded good results as well as employee vigilance in identifying & alerting authorities to al Qaeda operatives who are buying large amounts of the ingredients needed to make TATP. As a result, al Qaeda has had to start shifting strategy to find the right combination of weapons and targets that will result in enough casualties to make it worth the organization's while to use up their operatives. As it is, al Qaeda has only so many operatives currently in the United States and it is very difficult now to get their #1 demographic (males of Middle Eastern descent from any country) past American law enforcement & into the country. They've not met with much success recruiting operatives of ethnicities that American authorities are less suspicious of and even when they have the fact that those operatives have traveled outside their own country near some of the rat lines al Qaeda uses to smuggle these operatives into and out of the only safe place they currently have to give their operatives training, NW Pakistan, is many times the dead giveaway that authorities need to pick up their scent. That leaves them with a single option that has a better chance of working than getting even more of their members arrested or killed: develop a successful recruitment schtick to secure the allegiance of Americans whose questionable loyalty and status as a loner or outsider makes them the lowest-hanging fruit to harvest. These recruits have the greatest advantages for al Qaeda in that they need no legend (background story for foreign operatives that conceals who they are, who sent them and that allays suspicion) because they already have a real backstory of being a nobody in America and they can buy firearms without getting red-flagged by the govt provided that they have no criminal history and that they don't draw attention to themselves. The biggest problem is the lack of training available to these operatives because al Qaeda's only secure training facilities are located all the way at the opposite end of the field at the 1 yard line and they are currently losing ground so that only a few inches remain between the ball and the end zone.
Because of the foregoing, I believe we can expect to see more terror attacks utilizing firearms. When the operatives train (and they most certainly do train) they do so to make sure they can handle their firearms so proficiently as to inflict maximum casualties. al Qaeda has changed weapons for many of its main operations that are in the planning pipeline because guns are plentiful, relatively cheap and of excellent quality in America when compared to explosives. al Qaeda has also begun altering the methodology by which they choose terror targets. At issue is the damage being done and the casualties being inflicted. After 8 years of war (with varying levels of intensity), al Qaeda has realized that they must try to frighten the American public again to make an increase in troop numbers in Afghanistan politically untenable for President Obama and, in the larger picture, they look to make Iraq and, specifically, Afghanistan. al Qaeda will use in America the same methods it has used in Pakistan: soft targets with innocent people as the casualties. This means potentially hotels, malls and the workplace for larger companies that are known around the world like McDonalds. I believe that the war against the Islamists is moving into the next phase on the home front and we need to be prepared for it.
Here's the background around Nidal Hasan being an advisor.
On May 19, 2009, The George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI), an entity that "creates innovative strategies and solutions to current and future threats to the nation," published a report entitled "Thinking Anew - Security Priorities for the Next Administration - Proceedings Report of the HSPI Presidential Transition Task Force April 2008-January 2009" Listed in the report under the heading "Task Force Event Participants" is none other than alleged murderer, Nidal Hasan.
This self-proclaimed "think and do tank" took on an advisory role with respect to Homeland Security during the presidential transition. This means that prior to becoming a threat to Homeland Security, Hasan was a strategic advisor on Homeland Security.
This is an unfortunate turn of events for the Obama Administration as, no doubt, there will be commentators revelling in the fact that another terrorist can be linked to Obama, though it's highly doubtful the incoming President knew anything about Hasan...

I have a feeling this rumor is about as true as 99% of the crap I get forwarded via emails by my family members. It's amazing what people will believe when it fits their agenda.
We're ALL stressed. Most working people in this country are facing rising taxes and increased costs without the benefit of wage increases. Those that were laid off from white collar jobs are finding that the Administration and Congress don't consider them important contributors because 0 dollars of the 'stimulus' were directed to companies that would hire them. Those that have been laid off and are returning to work are having to take jobs that pay 20-50% less than they were making 2 years ago - they still have their old bills but their income is reduced. Those that HAVE jobs are wondering when theirs will be cut.....
Stress is a part of life, you don't have to be in the military to face stress. I don't think we'll ever know if this had anything to do with military service or just someone that went nuts or wanted to kill Americans for Allah. Without a note or something, he's just a mass murderer.
You have GOT to be joking!!!!! The stress military personnel face is, I'm sure, much more intense than the stress most of us have to deal with in everyday life.
Being a doctor in itself is stressful - let alone having to see the soldiers with their war related injuries. Plus he probably knew some of these soldiers personally. I'm sure it gets pretty gruesome at times.
And no way should this be blamed on Obama. These wars were going strong before he even took office. If nothing else, it should make our President think harder than ever about deploying more troops and also make the higher ups more conscious of the hardships these soldiers have to face and how to better help them deal with any issues they might have.

1) This guy had never been deployed before.
2) Wars are what the military does. Maybe he didn't read the brochure.
3) He was a shrink. Physician, heal thyself...
4) He was a Muslim. Given the state of the world for many years now, if he was worried about the US being in conflict with parts of the Muslim world, well, he should have been more careful reading that brochure I mentioned...

rufus can take solace in the last part.
Thanks for the find, concha...
imagine my surprise when I just read a headline on one of the liberal wackjob news sites that reads 'Obama urges not to jump to conclusions in the Ft. Hood shootings'
bulls**t!
I've been jumping to conculsions about islam since I was old enough to think and here's the funny thing...muslims never prove me wrong. Wake up America. Our enemy is not a country. Our enemy is a religon and it is NOT Christianity as Hollywood and Michael Moore would have you believe.

So what about the millions of Muslims in this country that are simply going about their lives' peacefully? They're proving you right?

What? You don't believe everything you hear on 700 WLW? I've heard they are nothing but facts on that station.

Concha, your Jerome Corsi-inspired story is interesting, but untrue. Hasan was not anything close to a "strategic advisor on Homeland Security." The extent of Hasan's involvement in HSPI was that he attended meetings which were open to the public:
Quote:
Frank Cilluffo, the director of the HSPI at George Washington University, stated that Nidal Hasan has no affiliation with the HSPI or with George Washington University, at all. "[Hasan] has no role on the task force, other than the fact that he attended these meetings as an audience member, as did hundreds of others." Hasan's name appears on the list of participants only because he provided the HSPI with an RSVP, indicating his attendance. Cilluffo told me, "We always record RSVPs and publish them as a matter of transparency, and will continue to do so."

I suspect the President is discouraging people from believing that every Muslim in the United States military is there for subversive reasons. Most Muslims in the United States military are there because they want to serve this country, not because they're either a sleeper cell member waiting to be activated or a mentally disturbed person who is liable to come unhinged at any time.
Maybe they need to reassess their religious affiliations.
How is that any better than the serious discrimination against Christians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that the authorities conduct to send the message to Christians that perhaps they should reassess their religious affiliations?
