Beat The Streets

Great wrestling...

Those printed mats are terrible. Nobody cares how pretty they are, they became a factor in the matches outcomes tonight.

The organizers should be embarrassed. Anyone who has wrestled on a mat outdoors knows that once the temp changes after dark it is impossible to keep the mats dry. These are world class athletes risking injury to wrestle. The Burroughs match consisted of two guys slipping and sliding all over the mats. For an event this big, it’s hard to believe this was the end result.

As far as the wrestling goes, there were some great matches. Captain America comes back from a 8-1 deficit (I think) to win 9-8.

World Champ Buroughs comes back from a 5-1 deficit to beat World Champ Chasimo 6-5.

US bad boy (and suspended for 2018 Worlds) Oliver, down 3-1 beats Olympic champ Asgarov 3-3 criteria with a late takedown.

Two other matches I thought were notable:

Helen Maroulis over two-time medalist Adekuoroye of Nigeria 4-1, and Kyle Dake handling Olympic medalist Livan Lopez Azcuy 13-1.

USA wrestlers actually had three wins over former Olympic medalists (Dake/Oliver/Burroughs), which is pretty impressive.

Oliver was the one up 3-1; he was never trailing. Still a great win for Oliver, though.

This from themat.com:

Oliver was placed on the shot clock in the first period, and with only five seconds left on the shot clock, he scored a takedown for a 2-0 lead. That takedown proved to be the difference. Asgarov scored on a shot clock violation to make it 2-1, then Oliver got a point on a caution for grabbing fingers to go up 3-1. Asgarov closed out with a shot clock point and a stepout to tie it up, but Oliverís takedown was the deciding criteria.

I stand corrected (though actually I'm sitting).
