Year of the Freshmen in Stark County

Thought it might be fun to track the progress of a strong freshmen class in the area this year. Here's who I know for now:

Ramar Pryor, Glen Oak
Josiah Harris, Glen Oak
Sencire Harris, Hoover

Please add more if you have them.

Well Sencire dominated the first match up with the GO frosh. Led all scorers including a nasty dunk. Round one to Hoover.

Any other schools featuring a freshman phenom?

My opinion based on seeing the GO frosh twice and the Hoover frosh once . . . I think Sencire is the more polished basketball player today but I think both of the GO frosh have higher ceiling in the way of long-term talent development and achievement.

Of course, I also thought Kenny Frease would end up being better than Kosta Koufos so what do I know?

I agree the GlenOak freshman Josiah Harris will continue to developed and get better. Sencire is currently playing better than them but with his attitude he is a wild card.

Minerva has a good Freshman player named Jurgen Schneider. Transferred in from Germany recently, they call him "Das Maschinengewehr," German for "the machine gun." Student section even started chanting "Heil Jurgen" after he dropped 37 in his first freshmen game before they moved him up.

Nazi-themed chants and jokes will come back to bite a student section (or anyone else, really) nearly every time.

He's young. Lots of room for maturity.

I believe he is already 16 so he's "old" for a freshman but obviously not fully mature. I think he'll be a few months shy of 20 years old when he graduates in 2022.

Not sure how old the Glenoak freshman are though.

I see a kid who plays team ball and relishes getting others involved. I'm impressed with his attitude for the hype he's gotten at a young age.

Harris led Hoover with 25 points and 7 rebounds (21 in the third quarter) in a loss to Lake.

For GO, Pryor and Harris each held to 7 points by Jackson.

That would be Summit County of course but I hear he is very talented.

Sadly the chance of any of these staying all four years at their current school is much less than it used to be. Look out for SVSM "fans" at these games.

Sincere is really really talented. What schools are looking at him at this point?

Just asking people so chill out. I have heard Sincere has either started late or was held back twice? Just wondering a couple of things. Can you really call him a freshman phenom if he should be in 11th grade? (if this is confirmed to be true but my NC source is pretty good) If he in fact was held back twice will his grades be good enough to get him into college? Will he be too old to play his senior year?

And that's fine but why make him out to be a super frosh when he should be a sophomore/junior? Kinda silly? And I am asking, age wise, can he play his senior year?

Because that's what grade he's in.

You can play until your 20th birthday. I don't know this kid, how old he is, or when his birthday is, so I don't know. But that's the rule.

Bylaw 4-2-1 (High School Age Limitation)
Once a student attains the age of 20, the student will no longer be eligible for interscholastic athletic competition notwithstanding where that 20th birthday falls in relation to the sports season.

He did give his youth teammates great memories though...when you should be in 7th/8th grade and you’re playing against 5th/6th graders.......

Age doesn’t matter only the grade

I've seen Harris kid play 4 times this year. Very impressive. He is the real deal. Can't wait to watch him the next 4 years. As long as Hoover has him they have a chance to win the Federal League. The football coach should try to get him out. He'd make a Great Wide Receiver or Quarter Back.

Looks like the new staff has got everything going in the right direction. The new coach did a good job bringing in some fresh coaches. They also seem to have gotten rid of some players who didn't want to put the time in. That helps change everything.

And people said the Bell girl at McKinley wouldn't be able to play her senior year because she was too old. Those are just rumors.

Good luck All
