Kent 41, Stow 14

Stow got hammered by the Kent Roughriders last night, 41-14.

Kent's decisive speed and potent offense showed its colors last night as Kent ran and passed over, around and through the Bulldogs for 41 points.

I knew we were in trouble when Stow took its opening drive for a TD, only to have Kent answer with a 76 yard TD return on the ensuing kickoff.

It was brutally obvious from the outset that Stow didn't have an answer for Kent's elusiveness and speed and its powerful passing attack. Throughout the night, Stow would fight like crazy to mainatin an offensive momentum only to have to eventually punt the ball away (BTW, nice punting job by the Stow punter, especially after running down a snap over his head and then bombing a 60 yard punt on the run under pressure on that play in the first half). Kent would take over on offense, come in and gobble up yardage at 5-7-10 yard chunks and more. Time and again Stow would manage to stuff the play only to have Kent come back on the next play and gain 10-15 easy yards and keep the drive alive. Stow seemed to have trouble wrapping up the ballcarrier and it hurt them last night. Again, Stow didn't really have an answer to Kent's speed and elusive 'element' when it really needed to be about ball control and sure tackling on D. Time after time Stow missed tackles (there's that elusive quality of Kent again) and while Stow played hard, they met their match.

Kent will go on to win a lot of games, and it's going to be interesting to see how far the Roughriders go this season. They don't have a lot of size, but do possess more than their share of niftiness. Should be interesting to see where both teams progress after a disappointing Friday night at Bulldawg Stadium. Right now, I don't think we know how good the Bulldogs can be this season and it's still very much up in the air this year.

Congrats to the Kent Roughriders-they handed our --- to us on a plate last night. Good luck on the rest of your season Kent.

Whoever plays Kent had better have a solid game plan to control the clock and the ball. Kent's offense is explosive and very dynamic. Kent controlled the pace of the game for 48 minutes against Stow Friday night.
