New League for Bulldogs

On some of the other forums, there is talk of our bulldogs moving into the Suburban league, or joining Barberton, Falls and others to form a new league. Has anyone heard of this? What would be best for our teams? I would love to be able to compete in the Suburban league.

Anything thaat gets Stow out from a league that includes Garfield Hts and other programs from the wesy side of Cleveland is a bonus. These "natural rivvalries" never materialized and it's time to get in with teams Stow should be playing in Summit County, IMO.

From what I understand, Stow, Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls and Hudson are committed to forming a new league. Nordonia and Twinsburg are close to committing. Kent and Ravenna are logical choices to round out the league but they seem to be having some reservations at this time.

2011 will be the begining of the new league. Metro or WRC?

I also like it. I was furious when the WRC disolved.

Eventually, I think Kent and Ravenna will come around and join up.

Hudson
Stow
Nordonia
Twinsburg
Barberton
Cuyahoga Falls
Kent Roosevelt
Ravenna

I'd like to see Tallmadge in there, also. It would almost be like the Metro all over again.

I think Tallmadge is happy in the SL. However, if the SL doesnt get Lake and instead takes Medina or Wooster, Tallmadge may consider looking into a league that is closer to home.

As a Hudson and Stow nut, I'd love to see Tallmadge. But I know it'll likely never happen. I think geographically, spiritually, athletically, it's a great fit, though.

Think of the great "Battles of Route 91" there would be with a league that included Twinsburg, Hudson, Stow, Tallmadge. Throw in Falls, Kent and Ravenna, and call it a wrap!

...as well Barberton, of course. Great rivalries with Falls and Stow that are not to be missed.

It now appears that Ravenna has come aboard but Kent may not.

Stow
Falls
Hudson
Barberton
Nordonia
Twinsburg
Ravenna

If Kent does not join, and it looks like they will not, it will be interesting to see who is chosen for the last spot.

The loss of Kent is too bad - there's a great history there and a potential rekindling of a rivalry with Stow if they were to join - but I guess I'll take it as-is.

It appears that the seven schools listed are in though nothing official is likely for a year or so.

Out of curiosity, if Kent does not join(I hope they do), who would you like to see join and round out the league?

Frecriss,
That's a good question. Most of the other teams are either not of the right enrollment size or they lack any kind of tradition with the 7 on your list, or they're so heavily entrenched in their current league (hi Tallmadge, Green and Wadsworth, the larger of the SL schools)

A school that comes to mind and is growing is Aurora.

Kind of an off the wall idea but St. Vincent St. Mary is an independant.

In the end though, I think Kent will join. They have little competition in their current league and one of the few that can compete with them is Ravenna.

Frecriss, hope you are right about Kent. As a Roosevelt alum, I was in favor of them joining this new league, regardless of what Ravenna was going to do. If the talk I hear about Ravenna coming aboard is true, I will be doubly dissapointed if Kent doesn't come in.

Kent and Ravenna are like yin and yang. You can't have one without the other, and again, the rivalry is huge. To break that up would be a crime. So, I hope it's both of them that join.

If the district were quite a bit larger, I'd suggest Woodridge, which is in a growth mode but not really quite big enough to go against the Stows of the world quite yet.

Nothing has been made "official" yet. I would expect something official by the begining of next school year.

Ok that would be an awsome league, and everyone in it could compete for the championship. Insted of getting killed by everyone.

For this upcoming season Stow is still in the NOC River division. But Mayfield and Nordonia were moved up the the NOC Lake division, and Garfield Heights was moved down the the NOC Valley. Lakewood and Elyria were moved from the NOC Lake to the NOC River, and Twinsburg was moved up from the NOC Valley.

So the new NOC looks like this:
Valley Division: Brunswick, Medina, Solon, Mayfield, Nordonia, Strongsville
River Division: Cuyahoga Falls, Elyria, Hudson, Lakewood, Stow, Twinsburg
Lake Division: Brush, Garfield Heights, Normandy, North Royalton, Parma, Valley Forge

Elyria and Lakewood are going to be too unnecessary long drives for Stow, Falls, and Hudson. I would much rather see a league with Stow, Hudson, Falls, Kent, Ravenna, Barberton, Twinsburg, and Nordonia.

The problem with the WRC was Brush, Solon, and Mayfield. Mayfield and Brush were too far away. Falls, Stow, Hudson, Nordonia, and Twinsburg are all right in each other's backyards. Solon was just way out of our league.

I do think having St. V's in the mix would be interesting.

I agree with having St V on the schedule.

I also like the setup with local schools; this NOC thing started out to be a grand idea but in practice, it really doesn't work out very well. In trying to get the perfect marriage of top schools, a lot of strange and unnatural matchups got created and that's why I don't think the league is going to last very long in its current setup.

I think it is fairly obvious right now that Nordonia will join the Suburban League. That opens the door for Hudson, Stow, Falls, Barberton and Twinsburg to form a league together.

I have heard many differant scenerios on who will fill out the league.

1. Kent Roosevelt, Ravenna and Aurora.
2. St. V, Hoban and Walsh.
3. Northwest, Louisville and Alliance.
4. Louisville, Alliance and Canton South(If Northwest eliminates Athletics)
5. Kent Roosevelt, Ravenna and Field.

We will just have to wait and see.

Why would public schools want a parochial school in their league? That will not happen. They'll bend over backwards to find a public school to fit there, and they'd go with 7 schools before taking one of the catholic sports academies.

Kent and Ravenna are logical choices. It'll be interesting to see what happens. It's too bad they couldn't steal Ellet...

Barberton, Falls, St. V and Hoban have, on two occasions, been in the same league together. Those leagues dissolved in part because Hoban was not competitive. I really don't understand why there is such opposition to having public and private schools in the same league.

The problem right now is that the league is running out of public school options.

Ravenna is the only PTC school that has openley expressed interest but I am not sure they would really leave without Kent.

No Suburban League or Federal League school is going to join.

No City Series school can leave.

Louisville and Alliance could possibly leave the NBC but that is highly unlikely.

Massillon has shown some interest in joining but I think we all know that
would be just for two, maybe three years.

Having private schools, I think, does more good than bad. Lets say the league consists of: Barberton, Falls, Stow, Hudson, Twinsburg, Hoban, St. V and Walsh.

Positives include travel times and expenses at a minimum and natural, backyard rivalries.

What really are the negatives?

Agreed, having D1 & D2 publics in a league with Hoban, STVM & Walsh isnt so bad. The drawing power of the these particular public schools is substantial, and will be able to hold their own vs the privates. The advantages as Frecriss pointed out, far outweigh the disadvatages.

Again, this league will not be dominated by one or two schools. Other than STVM in basketball (and that will change), there isn't any particular private that has an advatntage...and that includes boy's and girl's sports.

What has to be considered is ALL sports. No league should revolve soley around football.
