Wgh football
It's never too early to talk about WGH football as far as our fans are concerned. I was talking to someone who was at the Football Banquet a month or two ago and he said Coach Arnold announced he was returning for another year, which surprised a lot of people. However he pledged that he was going to change his entire philosophy and especially change his staff which he said had gotten stale over the years and he need new blood.
Does anyone know who has been let go from the old staff and who has been brought in as new blood to revitalize the program as Coach Arnold promised the crowd? I am very curious! Please give me some names of some prominent assistant coaches that have signed on to bring WGH back from a disastrous 2-7 season. Thanks. Looking forward to some great coaching names coming to Harding!

Good luck with that. Arnold is NOT held in high regard by area coaches. He is a classic case of the Peter Principle of an average assistant coach who was promoted to a level of incompetency -- a Head Coach, much to the detriment of WGH. The program remains in trouble as long as he remains . Very unacceptable situation..

I agree. No Lynn Bowden in that school to save him.

Bowden was a great athlete, but talent level is down. They are at best a .500 team now (or worse). Good athlete here or there, but total team ability is missing and poor coaching not offering much help.

I was at the banquet. He said he was going to change the off season program. He said nothing disparaging about his assistant staff. I don't know where you got this but I would discount anything this individual tells you as they must have an agenda.

Figured he wouldn't do that in public. Where did I get it? WGH MAN said it was his buddy, who was also at the banquet.

Why has the student enrollment numbers declined so drastically? Warren leads the state in a 16 year track and it out paces every one. Just would like a Warren perspective on this as I think besides coaching that this is having on the program

I think enrollment statewide except for the Columbus area is down?? Harding is at the high end of D2 for football and is still D1 for basketball.

coaching
My friend reiterated that Arnold was not happy with his staff and that he said he was going to have big changes. i stand by what my friend says.
By the way, has anyone heard of any of the new hires that Arnold brought in? Or at least any of the old staff that are leaving?
He definitely needs new ideas and that can only come from new coaches because anyone who knows Coach Arnold knows he was a good basketball but as a football coach he is questionable and that has hurt the program badly. The kids at WGH and the town of Warren which supports the Team deserves better.

And who he has let go from last years staff??
A very simple question.

The Warren-Massillon game is one of Ohio's legendary series.

Not any more. Massillon is still overhyped by its idiot fans and less than talented teams who under perform. WGH is a shell of itself with overall talent down and coaching problems. Nothing much legendary here an more.

You must have never been considered for the Massillon job. Maybe you weren't good enough.

While defending a different school on another thread, didn't you recently type, "Lol since you want to trash a program that over its history has been a winning one?"
Then you turn and disrespect two great programs like Massillon and Warren? Just because?

He rips on Tiger players, fans and the program. Maybe he coached against the Tigers in the past.

He’s a 74 year old dementia ridden senior citizen. He probably doesn’t even know what he’s saying.

To be honest I've never noticed that about him but lets give him an opportunity to explain why he does that.

staff changes
Glad someone had some information, thanks
So he hired the head coach from Howland and an assistant.
Strange, Howland FB isn't on par with WGH since Coach Dick Angle left. His replacement, the guy Arnold hired, didn't do the job. So he now gets rewarded with a better position at WGH. Good Luck to him and his assistant!
At least I'm glad that Arnold has made some changes to his Staff. Good Luck to him too

An assistant job at Harding is not better than the head job at Howland. Ridiclous statement.

Funny thing is Menendez is twice the coach Arnold is, believe me when I tell you Angle had a lot more talent to work with. Likely the reason Angle retired, Menendez pretty much ran the team for Dick much like Bayuk ran the team for Arnold.

Only partially true, gotti. While Angle had better athletes,he also had cherry picked schedules, playing inner cities weenies from Cleveland and Pittsburgh, much smaller area schools and throw in a Canadian team here or there. They avoided playing tough teams (WGH) and got burnt in the playoffs with that scam. No question Arnold is a lesser coach, but schedule was also much, much tougher at WGH. And , the only reason Howland is playing WGH again is the drop off in talent at WGH. Otherwise, WGH would run Howland off the field with better talent, even with a lesser coach.
Neither appears to be strong next season. Talent much closer to each. Coaching then becomes problematic.
