ITCL '16/'17 Final Season

Well it's the last year of the league and games have started. How will the 3 tiers shake out? Who could have a deep tourney run?

1. Red Division - Crestview vs South Range
2. White Division - Columbiana vs Lisbon
3. Blue Division - Jackson Milton vs McDonald

I'll go with S Range, J Milton, and a tie with Columbiana/Lisbon

Best chance for a tournament run would be J Milton due to playing in Div IV

Red - Crestview and South Range should be interesting...I'll go with Crestview here.

White - Lisbon..they have good depth this year and an up tempo system...fun to watch.

Blue - Jackson Milton all the way. Too much talent coming back this year.

JM has a chance to get out of districts again this year. Lisbon could make some noise, but it'll be hard to get out of D3 districts...though, you never know.

Red-South Range(Tier is very weak this year)
White-Lisbon(Clips are the only competition)
Blue-Jackson Milton(duh…an all star team from the other 5 schools couldn't get within 15)

Tournament- Although we may have 1 or 2 District winners(JM or Lisbon) that's as far as it gets.

Just watched this years version of the SR Lady Raiders vs. Western Reserve.
Reserve won by two.
Range seems completely out of sync, but I'm sure Coach Matisi will get it corrected.

WR won the JV game also.

SR lost a ton of talent and experience. I'm not sure what they have coming through Junior High but this may be the start of a down cycle. What was your opinion of WR? I thought they lost a bunch this year too.

Hard to tell Gordon with SR looking like they were just playing a pick up game.
I liked the Hughes girl. I'm not a basketball expert so I can't speak to their X's and O's. Their coach was very animated and his team seemed to respond after getting down early.

Regarding the future? The last three years were fun. But we lost a ton of girls from those teams who were with the program since 7th grade. It will be difficult to match that success.

I'll get to see a few more games before I head South so I'll have a better idea after that.

Both teams are young....I felt it showed in the sloppiness of the game. But credit Reserve for making a strong finish in the final four minutes of the game. The Owen girl from Reserve definitely gave them a spark and you could see the Devils gaining confidence as the game wore on.

South Range is definitely offensively challenged. Without having a Czoper, Youngs, or Sharp to take the pressure off of Durkin, teams are going to just swarm her and draw her into foul trouble constantly. Not to mention her trying to do more than what she is capable of doing. Until one of the younger players steps up to help carry the team a bit, it could be a tough year for the Lady Raiders.

I really don't know what to say about the Lady Raiders game against Boardman today. I'll just say I'm looking forward to seeing the improvement the Raiders make when I come back up north.

Good Luck ladies and keep practicing hard!

Any big games this week? I know Lisbon has Lowellville tonight, but not sure about Thursday's opponent. Next week is big for Lisbon...Crestview on Monday and Jackson Milton on Thursday. Some pretty good teams there!

SR vs Columbiana last night was physical and competitive. Both teams played with intensity. Not sure who in the ITCL can beat Columbiana.

Lisbon for sure, and maybe J Milton. Columbiana didn't look that good to me, although I will give you that the whole ITCL is rather weak. SR fought hard but has their issues no doubt. No ball handlers or anybody that can score besides Durkin.

JM and Lisbon play next Thursday. That should be a good one. Hope I make my rounds to Lake Milton that night.

JM vs Columbiana game scheduled for Saturday. Any thought on the outcome?

Clippers zone will need to find the shooters but I think Clippers will win by a couple with the scoring in the 40's.

Columbiana will win by more than a couple in my opinion. Columbiana beat J Milton last year at JM. Columbiana is at home, and they are a little better than last year, while I don't think J Milton is quite as good as last year. Will Columbiana be looking ahead to the Lisbon game on Monday? Columbiana might have tired legs playing games on both Wed and Thurs. Should be a good game. The lower the score, the better it will be for J Milton.

Columbiana 51-47 over J Milton. Columbiana deeper than J Milton. To many turnovers for J Milton.

Good luck to the Lisbon Girls tonight squaring off against the Clippers. Beating that guy who coaches Columbiana would be awesome, good coach, but complete jerk.

This is going to be a battle. Keys to the game in my opinion; Clips shooting the 3 and limit Cross and Hall from controlling the game. Plus their zone defense limiting Pezzano putting up big numbers. Lisbon's Mason getting to rim and dominating the inside. Tonight's game ought to be a fun one. I'm hoping for both teams to play their best.

Columbiana 68-62 over Lisbon. Furious rally in the fourth quarter by Lisbon after being down big at the end of the 3rd quarter. First half was sketchy by both teams. Pezzano was off her game somewhat, and Lisbon was playing to fast in my opinion. Too many missed layups and turnovers. Second half was better. Clippers freshmen Muslovski was a difference maker along with Cross. Lisbon had a couple girls out with injuries, and these girls could have helped out Pezzano with ball handling against the Clippers pressure. Rematch at Lisbon should be another close game.

Did anyone see the Leetonia/Wellsville game last night? Leetonia won by 7 and I was shocked at the score.

ZZZZZZ..... I agree with the sarcasm Oracle. Unfortunately, there are only 4 teams out of 16 worth watching.

Looks like this game just went from being a meaningful ITCL championship game, to a game played for pride and respect so to speak. Lisbon's loss to Leetonia was more than surprising. Lisbon now has two loses in the league. Columbiana, playing at home, will not lose to Leetonia next week. Monday's game result will have no effect on who wins the league this year. What is most likely at stake in this game is whether Lisbon can keep Columbiana from going undefeated in the regular season? Columbiana's last game is at home against a decent opponent in Cardinal Mooney. Should be an interesting game Monday night, along with an interesting season finish for Columbiana.
