Cincinnati City Records

These are the updated Cincinnati City Records for the girls. You must compete at a Cincinnati area district meet to be eligible. Currently those meets are Mason, Winton Woods, and New Richmond. The marks can be set anywhere. It looks like there are three new records set for the girls this year: 100m, high jump, and DMR

Boys records will be out later.

Nice work! I didn't know about the new HJ record. 5' 10" is an excellent record, and there's only a handful of SW Ohio girls who have ever jumped that high in HS or college.

I remember when the 5'9" record was set at the Withrow meet and Coach Kaufmann told you that they had used a steel measuring tape, don't know if they used that at Anderson or not. Andy Wolf might know.

Smith has signed with Arkansas, one of the elite woman's programs in the country. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...sas/547664002/

Love the trip down memory lane. I forgot how good Withrow's relays were late last decade.

Now on to the major project of updating the all time top 25. It took over an hour to update the boys 100m and 200m to find only legal times.

Yes, yes they were. The Mason District girls' meet was a BRUTAL sprint relays meet! Check the 2010 results out in particular...never seen anything like it in all my years. I've included the 2010 State results as a comparison.

In case you're wondering, and if my memory serves me correctly, Withrow dropped the baton in the 4x100m at district. If they hadn't, Loveland's 49.53 wouldn't have made it out of the district. I've boldfaced the district teams that placed at state that year. Kaufmann's teams did well that year and I was glad for him. Many of us remember all-too-well many years when Walnut dropped batons...always a coach's nightmare!

Most definitely. Anytime you're a college multi-events coach, you look for speed and jumping power. The fact that she can do the hurdles indicates some basic coordination of movement, so the throwing events can be taught to a reasonable level. She's got at least 5500 points in her, if not more.

She and Hope Purcell should both be very good heptathletes in college.

Dustin Horter's Legacy

Dustin Horter now owns all standard distance records in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m for Cincinnati area athletes. His mile time is now updated to his national championship time at Brooks PR.

Question: Was the last time a male athlete owned all 3 Cincinnati area records one Reginald McAfee?

I say yes. We know his mile 4:08.5 and 880 yard 1:52.5 runs were state records at the time. His two mile 9:14.5 a week later at the Ohio Track Classic was a state best also. Dave Cheesebrough had run 9:16.8 and set the state record at the state meet in 1969 When Reggie was setting his mile and 880 records.

It should be pointed out that the very next year in 1970 Les Nagy ran 9:04.1 to set a new state record in the 2 mile

Error in the girls city records

There is an error in the city records for girls posted above. Serena Clark not only set a new city record in the 100m, but she also did it in the 200m with the maximum allowable wind reading of +2.0 at the GMC meet with her time of 23.97 bettering the time of another East girl Autumn Health. I believe Heath's father is the head track coach at East. He may not be too happy about that.

http://www.swotccca.com/Documents/Ci...%20Girls25.pdf

Here is the link to that historic race for her. This is another of my benchmark times, under 24.00 in the 200m for girls. http://live.finishtiming.com/#/resul...event/20/Final

Thank you for flagging everyone on that. I'm tidying-up the initial release on the girls' 200m sub-24 second Ohio listing for later this week, along with an updated sub-11.80 second 100m list.

JAVMAN, your love for our sport is unparalleled in my experience. Thanks for devoting so much of your life to inform all of us about our track and field history. It needs to be preserved and no one does it like you.

Thank you. I enjoy it, have the time for it (so far), and hope any work I might do would be beneficial not only for now, but for future T&F historians who can expound upon my work. After all, I'm just expounding on the work of others ultimately in the quest to properly document the history of the sport, not only aiding Cincinnati & Ohio, but I've also got lists going at the national level. I've got all the 18' 0" or better vaults in nation-wide HS history documented, and am slowly working down to the 17' 8" level, plus all the 17' vaulters ever. Other events are underway as well.

What would be nice is some type of state-wide repository for people from all parts of the state to send old documents too for public posting to. Now that would be a MAJOR project, but a very useful one.
