First few months of 1995, I think.
Happened by accident. We switched from VAX workstations to Windows at work, but we didn't get any training on them. I was going thru all the icons one day and clicked on the Adobe Acrobat icon. Somehow it took me to their website, then another, then another.
Finally it dawned me that this was the Internet. And I never really had a productive day after that.

At home; around 1996 using a PowerSpec (MicroCenter) tower computer running
Windows95 thru a dial-up connection with one of the free CD-Discs you would pick
up around the checkout lines at almost any store.

I dialed into AOL around 95, give or take. I seem to remember one of the Icons/ Buttons you could (soon) push was labeled "World Wide Web (Coming Soon)"

As for the Internet, we were on it at St. Edward in the late 80's. Usually looking for nude pics in alt.newsgroups

Wow! I actually remember that home page. We tried AOL a few times and Compuserve. We ended up sticking with AOL in about 1995. We actually moved to a different city in 1998 because it was one of the first areas with broadband.

I suppose it can be semantics, what is meant by "internet." The first public ISP in the US wasn't given license until very late 89, the entire available bandwidth on the only cross-country backbone was less than what goes into the typical household today. What most were using wasn't http, the "web." And it wasn't international. It was a TPS-IP network. It maybe have been very local or it could have, through a University, connected into the Bell Labs-Stanford back-bone?
Eaglefan, your porn was probably from an internal network, were there photos of nude nuns? Or maybe St. Ed's had connected into the network at a local university.
It would be interesting confirmation if they were tapped into the University/research lab backbone.

Early 90's, shortly before Al Gore invented it. As I recall, it was through Prodigy.
