14:56 for a boy versus 16:56 for a girl

Male
Conant Smith of Middletown ran 14:56 today at Voice of America. Second place 15:36.

Female
Taylor Ewert of Beavercreek ran 16:57 today at Northmont High School. Second place 17:42.

Which is more impressive? Both are favored, in my opinion, to win state right now. Both are returning NXN All American's.

Not checking times throughout the nation, how many girls have gone sub-17 and boys sub-15?

I'm leaning towards Taylor Ewert, with her sub-17.

Are the Colorado kids doing this at altitude? This could be yet another reason to be impressed with an already impressive list.

What about the All-Time in Ohio? Boys versus Girls? Obviously, this list has to go above and beyond Milesplit.

Anyone have a compilation? I'm working on the track & field all-time lists, but maybe somebody has done the X-C side of things besides the late, great Craig Whitmore?

Lancermania?

The only other sub-17:00 I can think of in Ohio girls XC history is Katy Radkewich's state run her senior year for Beaumont who was in DII at the time (1996).

How many sub-15s are there besides Smith? Jordan, Horter, Scrape, Jha, Kreft, Mau (Kyle's dad Bob), Brajdic, Fry. Who else?

Last edited by Mr. Slippery; 10-14-18 at 02:54 PM.. Reason: Couldn't think of Mau's dad's name

The only one I know is Kristy Orre.

Kristy Orre from Northmont High School 16:51 at Kinney (now footlocker) in 1984. She was 7 time state champion and NCAA All American and NCAA champion for UK in 1988.

Hannah Neczypor from North Royalton, I thought she broke 17:00 but the best I can find is from Tiffin in 2010 was 17:22.

Milesplit has first Connie Robinson from Reading at 16:41 and 2nd Louis Brommer at the Kinney race in 1981 both from Ohio.
But if you look at official results Louis Brommer is from Mechanicsburg PA.
And Ohio had Laura Craven from Columbus Ohio at 4th with a 17:01.

That's all I got.

Yes, the GREAT Connie Jo Robinson of Reading, Ohio, won the 1981 Kinney Race in 16:40.4 (rounded to 16:41). Below are the results of that race. For those of us old enough and were around Cincinnati during those days (I was competing in the same league meet as her), she was the first real ATHLETE I ever saw. I watched her go out on a several mile cool down BETWEEN races at the Reading Invitational in 1982. She literally came back off the street, walked up to the start of the 880yd, and then won that race. Impressed the dickens out of me back then. You still don't see that in the vast majority today. She wasn't fast as far as foot-speed, but she OUT-WORKED everyone. A real metronome in action.

Here's a nice little compilation of Kinney/Footlocker Classic history.

I believe I saw that stat and thinking at the time that she was on a short course. The Anna course seems to come to my mind. Her best time at the state meet was 18:08, making me think that the sub 17 was not legit. I admired her though because she was definitely a standout runner. I think she eventually ran 34:22 10k at UNC Chapel Hill.

You can make the point on all these conference times. Many leagues run yearly on 1 off courses that dont see a lot of racing any other time. Lets see these performances on the district, regional and stae courses

She was supposed to be pushed by Anna's Sarah Schulze that day. Everyone said the course was short. I don't believe them....She was rollin'.

Maybe it's me being a CBC homer, but that race was legit in my eyes.

Hard to believe that Dean would host a meet and make the course short
