Big win by Winton Woods. A bit of a measure of Maple Heights. That defense might be a bit leaky against a deeper team. Thinking about sneaking Troy or Kings into my top ten.

1 Toledo Central Catholic
2 Akron Archbishop Hoban
3 Massillon Washington
4 Cincinnati Winton Woods
5 Cincinnati LaSalle
6 Whitehouse Anthony Wayne
7 Barberton
8 Warren G Harding
9 Avon
10 Avon Lake

I'm almost willing to say that those 4 potential D2 teams are better than the potential 4 from D1. Im just saying this in an attempt to spark goodvyappi football conversation. Not start some petty pissin contest.

In this scenario, do we think the OHSAA would go with TCC v Hoban, WW v Massillon? When TCC was in D3, they always seemed to send them south to play Region 12 where Trotwood is. Is that the more likely path, and we'd see Hoban v Massillon in the semis?

If it’s Avon Lake or Avon from R6, they very likely go east to play Hoban in the semi.

If it’s Toledo CC or Anthony Wayne, they very likely go south to face the R8 winner, leaving Hoban and Massillon to face off in a semi.

That seems correct. I think we're going to get some of the best matchups the D2 final four has seen in years. There's some potentially excellent regional finals to be had, too. A Hoban/Massillon semi would be interesting in terms of the venue they would come up with. Infocision would seem to be a logical choice, since they'd need a place that could handle the ticket demand for that game. I know there seemed to be an issue with the OHSAA and Akron U last year, so who knows what could happen if that matchup comes to fruition.

Canton is the only logical choice.

I agree. The top 10-12 in D2 is as deep in quality, if not the deepest, as any other division.

There are many good quality teams yes. D2 is deep. But there are 4 elite teams and 1 super elite team.

There will be some great playoff games this year and some “upsets”.

I wouldn’t pass out the championship trophy just yet lol.

I think they typically go with closest matchups geographically. So I would think Hoban/ Massillon and TCC/WW.

I'd say after Hoban, TCC, Massillon and Winton Woods there is a considerable drop off. I still think that if LaSalle makes it in, they could be a threat. Past that though, I dont see anyone challenging the 4 aforementioned teams. As someone else said, there are definitely a lot of good teams in D2 this year and the playoffs should have some really good games. However, there are 4 great teams that I believe stand head and shoulders above the rest.

You would think. Though in OHSAA's infinite wisdom it's conceivable they'd rematch Massillon and WW like last year, to avoid the optic of an all-private school final.

A lot can happen yet but TCC and esp. Hoban look like locks in those regions.

OSHAA does seem to try to avoid an all private final. But it did happen with Hoban and TCC 3 years ago.

Toledo is actually an hour closer to Akron/Massillon than Cincinnati, so they can really put the matchups together any way they want and have them make sense. I guess it might be easier to find a venue along the I-75 corridor than it is east to west. Cincy is 3-3.5 hours from any of those other 3 schools, so if that is the final 4, I still wouldn't be surprised to see them put the 2 privates together and the 2 publics together in the semis to guarantee a public in the championship. I'm sure Massillon gets tired of hearing about Hoban, but I bet they'd love another shot at WW after last year's semis.

Agreed. Many intra-regional teams have no cross-over with other parts. Hence as "stacked" Central Catholic losing in play-offs to Clyde a few years ago.

The game isn't played on the recruiting sights. You play the game as if you're in it. I think SJJ, though I wouldn't put them in my top ten, can with proper match-ups advantages, is unpredicatable in R6. Game coming up against Central should tell. If they win, they might well vault into the top four.

A long history of good linemen. It's a high economic area, with good academics people come to realize, don't need to pay for that nearby private school to get the education or attract the DI college attention. They are our mini Olentangy.

Their new coach came from the P-Burg teams that made runs a few years ago and now, within a year, AW made a run in 2016. They don't have any marquee skill players but they are balanced and the kids know the game.

So yeah, the potential if not the long history is there.
